Regular clippers worked fine for my mom at that age. Everyone acts like you need a gadget for basic stuff now. Unless her hands are really bad, a $5 pair and good lighting does the job.

Upper back is listed in the specs if that counts for anything. Mine stays put there when I cinch the straps tighter, and the heat is the part I actually notice in that spot.

Translation mode drops words constantly during fast dialogue.

Mine still translates with the app closed, so the whole “app has to be running” thing doesn’t match what I see. I’ve done it plenty of times without opening anything first.

in reply to: Does MixMate work for matcha or just coffee? #10896

Matcha in a stirrer is always going to be a losing battle if you expect it to fully break up the powder. I’ve had better luck just putting a little water in first, making a paste, then topping it off and letting it stir. The clumps you’re worried about come from dumping dry powder into a full cup, not the device itself.

Funny how different everyone’s results are. Mine barely makes it two days if I keep it outside near the fence line where the neighbor’s dog hangs out. Inside it lasts way longer, so I figured the constant triggering is just eating the battery.

Daylight never made a difference when I ran mine.

You’re overthinking the “add your own ROMs” part honestly. These things are basically a gamble on build quality and whether the emulators work properly on the included games. I wouldn’t count on expanding it much. If the preloaded list doesn’t do it for you, skip it.

in reply to: Qinux BitBip 89 and the ‘4K’ claim, is it actually worth it? #9192

Plugged mine into a 55″ and honestly it looks fine. The 4K is just upscaling but it does clean up the blocky edges enough that it doesn’t look like a blurry mess. For the price it does what it says.

It’s not going to erase stains that have been sitting there for years. If your coffee stains are still on the lighter side, it can help keep them from getting worse, but don’t expect a dramatic difference. I’d treat it as a maintenance tool, not a fix. If you’re already past the point where you notice them in photos, save your money for a cleaning.

Good to know it’s not just me. I’ll stick with it and see if the drain keeps up.

in reply to: Does the CoolJet need ice to work well or is water enough? #8361

I skipped the ice after the first week. Not because it doesn’t work, but because I couldn’t be bothered to refill trays at work. Water alone is fine if you keep your expectations in check. It’s basically a slightly cooler breeze that also adds some moisture to the air. On a hot afternoon it takes the edge off, but it’s not going to fool you into thinking you’re standing in front of an AC unit. If you’re the type of person who gets annoyed by lukewarm air blowing on you, you’ll probably end up disappointed. I just treat it like a fancy fan with a humidifier built in and it does the job well enough for a desk. The ice made a noticeable difference for about twenty minutes, then it melted and I was back to the same lukewarm breeze anyway. So unless you want to be swapping ice packs multiple times a day, water is the realistic option.

I wouldn’t buy it just for limescale. It helps some, but it’s more about the water feeling less harsh. That’s the part I actually noticed.

It’s a wrap, so it’s always going to move when you do. That’s just the design.

It works fine in smaller rooms, quiet enough that I forgot it was on.

Mine lost cooling power after two months of summer use. I would not count on it long term.

in reply to: SonaBuds vs my old earbuds for calls? #7772

The mic isn’t going to suddenly turn into garbage because the main selling point is translation. I’ve taken plenty of regular calls on mine and nobody’s complained about hearing me. If your old pair sounds better, that’s a you thing, not a SonaBuds thing.

in reply to: DappSmile strong mode safe for everyday use? #7371

Strong mode is fine daily if your gums aren’t already sensitive. The issue is people treat it like a power tool and dig in. I’ve been using it every day for months and my gums are fine, but I also don’t jam the tip against my teeth like I’m chiseling concrete.

in reply to: Does the Keilini Heater Pro trip breakers often? #7357

Old wiring is probably the real issue here, not the heater itself. I’ve had 800W space heaters trip breakers in older buildings while the same unit worked fine elsewhere. If your outlets are loose or the breaker is already marginal, anything with a steady draw will set it off eventually.

Good to see I’m not the only one who rolled the dice on this. Seems like the wall surface does most of the work, which is what I figured. I’ll give it a shot but I’m keeping the box nearby just in case it takes a dive.

I mean, softer is a pretty subjective thing. I don’t think you’re imagining it, but it’s not like you’re suddenly showering in silk. I figured the main benefit would be less chlorine smell and that’s about what I got.

Guess I’ll see what happens after a few more weeks then. Seems like it varies a lot depending on who you ask. Either way, it’s doing the job so I’m not gonna overthink it.

in reply to: Guardality with a passport holder? #7053

If you’re never taking the passport out of the RFID holder, then yeah, the Guardality is basically a coaster for your bag. But if you’re like me and end up pulling the passport out at every hotel check-in, it’s kind of nice having that extra layer on the desk or wherever. Just depends on how lazy you are about putting the holder back on.

Tried mine with a chunky plastic frame and it was a squeeze. Not awful, but definitely not roomy. If your glasses are wide at the arms or sit high on your face, you’ll probably feel it pressing after a while.
