MemberI’ve had my Hewelth UVClean for a few weeks now and I’m still not sure about the self-cleaning mode. It goes off every 6 hours automatically, but is that overkill if I’m just using it at home? I usually drink the water within a day, so I don’t want to waste battery. Anyone else adjusted to this? Or just leave it on?

Member6 hours seems like overkill for home use.

MemberSix hours does feel like a lot, but that cycle is only a few minutes so it’s not draining much. I turned mine down to every 12 hours and honestly can’t tell the difference in taste or smell. If you’re finishing the water daily anyway, the auto mode is mostly just keeping the bottle from getting funky.

MemberBattery barely moves honestly, the 6-hour thing is fine.

MemberI just leave mine on the auto setting. Charging it more often doesn’t really bother me and the bottle never smells funky, so it’s doing its job.

MemberI went into it expecting the self-cleaning mode to be something you’d only really need when the bottle sits around for a while, like on a trip or over a weekend. That was my assumption anyway. But after a few weeks of just normal daily use at home, I ended up leaving the 6-hour cycle alone. Not because I think it’s necessary every single time, more because I stopped noticing it happening at all.
The thing that surprised me was that it wasn’t the battery that bugged me, it was the little light and the faint sound when it kicks on. Mine sits on my desk and it goes off at weird times, so I moved it to a shelf near the kitchen instead of fiddling with the settings. That solved it for me more than changing the interval would have.
If you’re drinking the water within a day anyway, the auto cycle is probably doing very little for you in terms of actual cleaning. It’s more of a keep-it-fresh thing than a real sterilization step at that point. But I get why people just leave it, since messing with the menu is more effort than it’s worth. I don’t think there’s a wrong answer here, it just depends on whether the extra cycles bother you or not.

MemberI’m still deciding whether to buy one, so I might not be the best judge, but the 6-hour auto cycle feels a bit much for home if you’re finishing the water daily. I’d probably switch it to the longer interval and just use the manual mode when I actually want that extra clean. For me it would be less about battery and more about not having it cycling while I’m just sitting around.

MemberI’ve had mine since around March and I actually turned the auto cycle off completely for a while, mostly because I was curious whether I’d even notice a difference. Short version: I did, but not in a way I expected. I was rinsing the bottle every night like I always do with regular bottles, and after maybe a week and a half of no auto mode I started getting that faint stale smell near the lid threads. Nothing dramatic, just that slightly off thing you get when water sits in a bottle too long. Turned the auto cycle back on and it went away within a day or two. So for me it wasn’t really about the water itself, it was the bottle staying fresh between washes.
That said I get why people think 6 hours is a lot. When I’m home I’m refilling constantly, so the bottle never really sits empty or half full for long. The times it actually seemed to matter were when I forgot it in my bag overnight or left it in the car. That’s when the auto mode earned its keep.
Battery wise I haven’t noticed it being a problem, but I also don’t track it closely. I plug it in maybe once a week and it’s fine.
If you’re drinking everything within a day I don’t think you’re missing much by stretching the interval, but I wouldn’t turn it off entirely. The smell thing creeps up quietly.

MemberI don’t own one yet but I’ve been comparing it to a couple of other UV bottles and the auto interval is my main hangup too. My husband would probably just leave it on and forget it exists, which is sort of the point of a self-cleaning bottle I guess. Curious whether you actually notice a difference in taste when it runs less often.

MemberSix hours is overkill at home. I turned mine off after the first week, just hit the button when I think about it.

Ryan__TMemberSix hours is fine, battery lasts plenty.

MemberI mostly use mine at my desk and just leave the auto cycle running. The battery still gets me through a few days before I plug it in, so it hasn’t been a hassle. If you’re refilling daily anyway, the manual button is probably enough though.

MemberSix hours seems like a lot if you’re drinking it that fast anyway. I’d just switch it to manual and hit the button when it crosses your mind. Battery lasts longer that way too.

MemberMine actually started making the water taste a little off after a while, so I switched to manual. Now I just run it when I remember, usually every other day, and it’s been fine.

MemberI just leave mine on auto and charge it maybe twice a week, no big deal. The battery thing worried me at first too but it hasn’t been an issue in practice.

MemberI’m still deciding whether to buy one, so this is useful. The six hour cycle sounds like it adds up if you charge it often. I’d probably just run it once in the morning and leave it at that.

MemberFair enough, I’ll just leave mine on auto then.
