Two weeks is too early to call it. I swapped a cheap head for a filtered one and the real test was whether the cartridge actually got gross, which mine did after about six weeks. That told me more than how the water felt on day three.
Not worth it just to hide a cable. I hardwired mine for the clean look and ended up yanking the kit out after a few months because the camera kept running when it shouldn’t. Unless you actually need parked recording, the plug is fine.
The magnet thing is way overblown. My card sat in a bag with a magnetic closure for months and never had a single issue. If it ever stops working, that’s a manufacturing problem, not the clasp.
A divider isn’t going to block street noise, so if that’s the goal, skip it. The one thing that actually helped me was heavy curtains over the window, and even that only took the edge off. Don’t waste money on the folding screen.
Never bought the whole “kills 99.9% of germs” thing with these handheld steamers. Not specifically this one, but the category in general. I looked into it when I was shopping around and the actual steam temp at the nozzle drops fast once it hits a surface. By the time it’s spreading across your counter it’s basically hot water vapor, not some sterilizing cloud.
That said, I did end up getting one anyway, different brand but same idea. My opinion shifted a bit after using it for a couple months. It’s not a sanitizer in any lab tested sense, but it does lift grease off the stove hood way better than spraying and scrubbing ever did for me. So I stopped caring about the germ angle entirely and just treat it as a chemical free scrubber that happens to be hot.
Where I got annoyed was the marketing. Every listing throws around “sanitizing” like it’s a guarantee. It’s not. If you actually need disinfection you’re still reaching for something else. But for everyday junk on hard surfaces it does the job well enough that I kept it.
So my take changed from “this is probably a gimmick” to “it’s fine, just not for the reason they’re selling it.” If you’re happy with how it cleans, the germ question kind of stops mattering.
Warranty info on these things is usually buried in a page nobody reads. I went looking before I bought mine and found basically nothing on the main listing, just a generic returns window. When I finally dug up the actual terms it covered defects for a short stretch, not wear and tear on the lights. That part matters because the lights are the whole product.
Where I changed my mind was after owning it a while. I assumed the company would just replace it if a section died. Then I noticed the fine print basically treats gradual dimming or a few dead LEDs as normal use, not a defect. So coverage exists on paper but it might not help with the exact failure you’re describing. I’m not saying they’d stiff you, just that the policy is written to be narrow.
For what it’s worth mine has lasted longer than I expected, so I don’t think it’s fragile junk. But I’d go in assuming you’re on your own once the return window closes, and treat any warranty as a bonus rather than a safety net. If that math doesn’t work for you, that’s a real reason to skip it.
Owls aren’t really the issue, it’s everything else. I’ve messed with a cheap night vision before and the IR glow spooks way more than you’d think. If you want to actually watch them, half the time you’re better off just standing still and letting your eyes adjust.
USB-C doesn’t automatically mean it plays nice with any power bank. Some of these pull more than the cheap ones can push, so you get a slow fan or it just cuts out. I’d check the wattage before assuming anything.
Wrist stage data is a guess no matter how confident the app looks. I stopped caring about deep vs light labels after mine kept calling my worst nights “great sleep.” If you want real stage data you need the chest strap, otherwise treat the numbers as a rough trend at best.
I used to think the whole enrichment thing was overblown. Like the cat will be fine with a couple toys and a window, right? Then I actually paid attention to what my cat did all day while I was gone and realized she was just sleeping in the same spot for six hours, waking up to eat, then going back to sleep. That bothered me more than I expected.
So I tried a few things over maybe two months and most of it was a waste. She ignored the fancy stuff. What actually changed her behavior was spreading her dry food around the apartment in small amounts before I left. Not a puzzle, just scattered pieces on different surfaces and in a few spots she had to walk to. I figured it would be annoying to clean up but it takes two minutes and she spends a good chunk of the day hunting around for it. She started moving more, and I noticed she was less frantic when I got home.
The thing that surprised me was how much less interested she became in her regular bowl. I still leave some food in there but the scattered stuff is what she goes for first. It also made me realize how bored she probably was before, which is a bit guilt inducing.
I still think a lot of the enrichment stuff people push is overpriced nonsense, but I changed my mind on the basic idea. It does not need to be complicated or expensive, it just needs to make them work for something.
I wouldn’t bother trying to wear it on both sides at once. Mine slipped around constantly when I tried, so it ended up being more annoying than helpful. I just picked the shoulder that bugs me more and left it at that.
Plugged mine in during a movie last weekend because it was flashing red. Worked the whole time, no shutoff, but there is one thing I noticed that might actually matter. When it is charging, the heat mode seems to cycle differently. Like it warms up then kind of backs off, warms up again. Not sure if that is intentional or just what happens when it is pulling power from the cord. Either way it was still usable, just felt less steady than when it runs off the battery alone. The manual for mine does not say anything about not using it while charging, so I figure if they wanted to warn people they would have put it in there. I still would not do it every single time just because I do not know what it does to the battery long term. But for an occasional session when you forgot to charge it, it works.
Anyone claiming cold water is optional is probably not paying attention to how these things actually work. The whole cooling effect comes from evaporation, and evaporation is slower with warmer water. That is just basic physics, not some brand-specific quirk. So yeah, tap water will blow air around, but calling it “cooling” is generous. It is more like a damp fan at that point. If you want the thing to do what it says on the box, you need cold water or ice. Otherwise you are basically just paying for a humid breeze. I would not buy one expecting it to perform the same without the cold part. That is the feature, not a bonus.
32GB is the max that thing takes, so it’s not like you have a choice unless you swap the whole camera. I’d just check how far back your clips actually go after a night and decide from there.
The base diameter matters more than people admit. I tried mine on a chunky pinot bottle and it wobbled enough that I just grabbed the old waiter’s friend instead. Works on normal ones, that’s it.
The brush is the only attachment I bother with on my couch. Tried the slim nozzle first because that’s what everyone says for pet hair, and it just skated over the fabric while the hair stayed put. Swapped to the brush and it actually pulled the stuff up instead of pushing it around. I go in short strokes and press down a bit, otherwise it does that floating thing where nothing happens. The one catch is you have to empty the bin way more often because it grabs so much at once. Mine fills up after basically one cushion. Still beats chasing hair around with the other nozzle. If the brush is grabbing more for you, that’s probably just it working.
I don’t buy that IR is the problem. Birds don’t see it, and mine stare at the camera in daylight too. They’re just looking at the box with the food in it.
Mine didn’t keep up in a drafty room either, so I don’t buy the “just shut the door” fix. A closed door doesn’t stop cold air coming through old windows. I ended up using it as a spot heater near my chair instead of expecting the whole room to warm evenly.
Odor isn’t really something UV light fixes on its own. It kills stuff on surfaces it actually hits, but cat smell comes from ammonia in urine and that bacteria in the litter itself, which the light isn’t reaching if it’s buried or under a ledge. So the smell coming back a little better after a week is probably you scooping more, not the lamp doing much. If you want a real test, stop scooping extra for a few days and see if it still smells the same. My guess is it won’t.
The whole “let it charge first” thing is overblown. Mine powered on straight out of the box and I used it that same night. If it dies, plug it in. End of story.
Updates are not going to magically fix remote lag. I don’t buy that. I’ve messed with enough cheap streaming sticks to know the remote delay usually comes down to how the thing handles input, not whatever firmware version you’re on. You can wait for the next patch all you want, but if the hardware is already struggling to keep up with the interface, the remote is going to feel behind no matter what.
The old Roku stick felt snappier because it was doing less. Roku’s whole thing was a stripped down grid of channels, and the remote just had to move a cursor around. Once you start layering in app previews, background stuff, whatever else these sticks run, the input gets queued up and you feel it. That is just the tradeoff.
So no, I wouldn’t count on it getting better. If the lag is mild and you can live with it, fine. If it’s driving you nuts, that’s not something a future update is realistically going to erase.
The bigger issue with a bucket is how much water you actually end up going through, not whether the thing will run. I tried the bucket route when I first got mine and it worked, but I burned through way more than I expected just doing half a car. If your patio is big you’ll be refilling constantly, which gets old fast. The suction itself isn’t the problem, it’s the capacity. So it’ll run off a bucket, but don’t expect to do a whole driveway on one fill. That’s the part people leave out when they say it works fine.
Pressure is what pushes water through the filter, so if it’s weak you get weak flow. Mine dropped noticeably during peak hours, filter or not. I haven’t seen anything proving it stops filtering, but low pressure plus a filter isn’t a great combo.
If my wallet was already full I wouldn’t bother. I had one in a slim front pocket wallet and it pushed things just enough that the closure got annoying. Not worth it to me when the cards I already carry aren’t even contactless.
Six hours is overkill at home. I turned mine off after the first week, just hit the button when I think about it.
