I’m thinking about getting a CoolJet for my desk at work, but I’m not sure if I should bother with ice cubes every day. Does it still cool decently with just water, or is ice kind of a must for it to feel worth it? I don’t want to be messing with ice trays all the time if I don’t have to.

I just use water and it’s fine for a desk breeze, nothing dramatic.

Ice is a hassle, water alone is basically just a damp fan.

I’m in the opposite camp on this one, oddly enough. I tried the whole ice cube thing for the first few weeks and honestly it felt like more hassle than it was worth. Filling those little trays, remembering to pop them out, carrying them to my desk without dripping everywhere. After a while I just stopped bothering and now I only use cold water straight from the tap. For me, the difference isn’t huge enough to justify the daily routine.

I think it depends a lot on where you are and what you’re expecting. My office gets pretty warm in the afternoon but it’s not unbearable, and the CoolJet with plain water gives me that nice constant breeze that keeps me from feeling stuffy. It’s not going to make the room feel like a walk-in fridge or anything, but it does take the edge off. I actually find the airflow itself does most of the work for me.

I did notice that on the hottest days, like when it’s properly muggy outside, the water alone feels a bit weaker. That’s when I miss the ice, I’ll admit. But those days are rare enough for me that I’d rather deal with a slightly less chilly breeze than mess with ice trays every single morning. I just refill the tank when I get in and that’s it.

Ice makes a noticeable difference, but water alone still gives a decent cool breeze.

Ice is a pain to deal with every morning, but yeah, there’s a real difference. Water alone just feels like a weak fan blowing slightly damp air at you. I tried skipping the ice for a week and ended up going back. If you’re not willing to do the ice thing, I’d say skip this and get a regular fan.

I swap between water and ice depending on how lazy I’m feeling that morning. Water alone is fine if you just want a bit of airflow at your desk, but it’s not going to give you that crisp chill. For me, the ice is worth it on hot days but I don’t stress about it the rest of the time.

I skipped the ice after the first week. Not because it doesn’t work, but because I couldn’t be bothered to refill trays at work. Water alone is fine if you keep your expectations in check. It’s basically a slightly cooler breeze that also adds some moisture to the air. On a hot afternoon it takes the edge off, but it’s not going to fool you into thinking you’re standing in front of an AC unit. If you’re the type of person who gets annoyed by lukewarm air blowing on you, you’ll probably end up disappointed. I just treat it like a fancy fan with a humidifier built in and it does the job well enough for a desk. The ice made a noticeable difference for about twenty minutes, then it melted and I was back to the same lukewarm breeze anyway. So unless you want to be swapping ice packs multiple times a day, water is the realistic option.

Even without ice it still cools better than a regular desk fan, so I’d say water is enough for most days.

Ice is a must for me, water alone just doesn’t cut it.

I really don’t think ice is worth the hassle unless you’re sitting right next to it in a hot room. With just water it’s basically a slightly cooler fan, which is fine for a desk. I stopped bothering with ice after the first couple days and haven’t missed it.

I’d say ice is overrated for this. I ran mine with just water for two months and it was fine for sitting at a desk. The difference with ice is noticeable but it fades fast anyway, so unless your office is actually hot it’s not worth the daily hassle.

Ice or no ice, it still does the job better than a regular fan. The ice just makes it feel like a cold breeze instead of a slightly damp one. If you’re lazy like me, water only is fine. Just don’t expect it to turn your office into a fridge.

I run mine with ice when I remember to grab some from the break room freezer, but most days it’s just water and it still keeps my corner of the office comfortable. The ice does make the first hour or so noticeably colder, but once it melts you’re back to the same thing anyway. I’d say start with water and treat ice as a bonus for hot afternoons.

I pretty much only use water unless it’s a really hot afternoon, then I’ll toss in a cube or two.

I keep mine in the bathroom at home actually. Water alone is fine for me most of the time, but I do notice it works a lot better on days when I throw a couple cubes in. It’s not a massive difference, just feels fresher. I wouldn’t stress about doing it every single day though.

I just keep a bottle of water at my desk and refill it when it runs low. Ice is nice when I remember to grab some from the kitchen, but honestly the water alone keeps my corner from getting stuffy and that’s all I really need it for.

Water alone works fine, I only add ice when I want it extra cold.

Water is honestly fine for everyday desk use. Ive had mine for a few months and only bother with ice when the afternoon sun is hitting my window directly.

The difference is real but not enough to make ice a daily requirement. Youll still feel the airflow and it beats having nothing.

If you want the full effect, yeah, ice makes a noticeable difference. Water alone just kinda feels like a damp fan blowing on you. It’s not bad, but it’s not exactly refreshing either.

I wouldn’t stress about doing it every day. Just keep a small bag of ice in the work freezer and grab a handful when you remember. Days you skip it, you’ll still get some airflow, just don’t expect a miracle.
