I’ve been using the Qinux Vapoxis for a few weeks and it works fine for most stuff. But I’m curious about the steam temperature. Does it actually get hot enough to kill germs? I don’t need exact numbers, just wondering if it’s really sanitizing or if I’m just wiping things down with warm mist.

It gets hot enough that I won’t touch the steam with a bare hand, if that tells you anything. Whether that’s actually killing germs on your counter, no clue. I use mine because it cuts grease, not because I’m running a lab.

Never bought the whole “kills 99.9% of germs” thing with these handheld steamers. Not specifically this one, but the category in general. I looked into it when I was shopping around and the actual steam temp at the nozzle drops fast once it hits a surface. By the time it’s spreading across your counter it’s basically hot water vapor, not some sterilizing cloud.

That said, I did end up getting one anyway, different brand but same idea. My opinion shifted a bit after using it for a couple months. It’s not a sanitizer in any lab tested sense, but it does lift grease off the stove hood way better than spraying and scrubbing ever did for me. So I stopped caring about the germ angle entirely and just treat it as a chemical free scrubber that happens to be hot.

Where I got annoyed was the marketing. Every listing throws around “sanitizing” like it’s a guarantee. It’s not. If you actually need disinfection you’re still reaching for something else. But for everyday junk on hard surfaces it does the job well enough that I kept it.

So my take changed from “this is probably a gimmick” to “it’s fine, just not for the reason they’re selling it.” If you’re happy with how it cleans, the germ question kind of stops mattering.

I mostly use mine for the nozzle area on the sink and the steam coming out feels plenty hot, way hotter than tap water gets. Whether that means it’s actually killing stuff, I couldn’t tell you. It does a decent job on soap scum though, that’s mainly why I keep using it.

I’ve had mine about two months and mostly use it on the stovetop and the rubber seal around the fridge. The steam definitely comes out hot, like I can feel it on my hand from a few inches away, but I’ve never trusted it as a full replacement for a disinfectant spray. If something actually needs sanitizing, like after raw meat juice dripped somewhere, I still hit it with a regular cleaner afterward. For everyday grime it loosens stuff fine, but calling it a germ killer feels like a stretch to me. It’s more of a hot wet scrubber than a sterilizer.

Mine puts out steam that’s hot enough to fog up a mirror instantly, but I’ve never trusted the whole germ-killing angle on these things. I just use it to loosen crud and then wipe.

Mine gets hot enough that I’ve accidentally steamed my knuckle more than once while cleaning the bathroom, so it’s definitely not just warm mist. I figure that’s good enough for me. I mostly care that it blasts the crud out of the little grooves around the faucet, and it does that better than any spray bottle I’ve tried. If the steam is hot enough to make me yelp, it’s probably doing something useful on the germs too.

I’ve only used mine on the grout in the kitchen and it pulled up a decent amount of gunk I couldn’t get with a rag. As for the germ thing, I don’t really care either way, I just like that I’m not breathing in bleach fumes all afternoon.

Mine’s done maybe 20 uses over a few months and the steam still scalds my hand if I’m not careful, so it’s definitely not just warm mist. Whether that translates to actual germ killing I couldn’t tell you, but it’s hot enough that I don’t worry about it much.

I still wipe down whatever I steam with a cloth afterward, so I never counted on it killing everything. Hot steam loosens crud fine, but sanitizing is a bigger claim than I’d take on faith. If that’s the main reason you want one, I’d look elsewhere.

Not buying the germ-killing angle either. Mine shoots out hot steam but it cools the second it hits a surface, so whatever it touches is basically just damp and warm after a pass. It cleans grime fine, sanitizing is a stretch.

It gets plenty hot, that part I wouldn’t question.

I only used mine on a shower door and some tile, and the steam was hot enough that I didn’t want my hand in it. Whether that actually kills germs I couldn’t say. I still spray stuff after if it matters.

Appreciate the replies, sounds like it does run properly hot then. I was mostly just curious if I’d been fooling myself with the whole sanitizing thing. Good enough for me either way.

I don’t buy the sanitizing pitch at all. Mine gets hot but not hot enough to matter for germ killing, and I’d want an actual source before believing any of that. I use it for grime, not for disinfecting.
