MemberProbably a dumb question but I’m looking at the Hewelth ReliefChain and can’t find a clear answer. I just want to know if I can keep using it while it’s plugged in. I know some devices say not to. Not a big deal either way, just curious.

MemberI’ve used mine plugged in a bunch of times and it’s been fine, no weird behavior or anything. The heat mode feels the same either way so I just leave it charging on my desk and grab it when my shoulders act up. Not saying the manual approves, but nothing has gone wrong for me. 🙂

MemberMine works fine plugged in, no issues so far.

Ryan__TMemberManual probably says something vague for liability reasons. I’d mostly think about battery habits, not safety. Using it plugged in constantly can cook a rechargeable pack over time, so I usually unplug once it’s topped off.

Rob CMemberI’ve used mine while it was plugged in a few times, mostly because I forgot to charge it before sitting down. Nothing dramatic happened. It still ran through the modes the same way, heat included. The only thing I noticed is the cable gets in the way if you’re trying to move around, so it kind of defeats the hands-free thing. If I’m staying put on the couch it’s fine. I wouldn’t plan my whole routine around keeping it plugged in, but for an occasional top-up session it does the job. The bigger question is whether the battery even lasts long enough that you’d need to. Mine gets through a couple of sessions before it wants a charge, so plugging in mid-use isn’t something I do often. If yours is dying fast enough that you’re regularly using it tethered, that’s more of a battery thing than a safety thing in my book.

Sam ReadsMemberMine doesn’t even work while plugged in, it just cuts off after a few seconds. Not sure if that’s normal but I’ve just gotten used to charging it first.

MemberI just leave mine plugged in for most of the session and haven’t had any cutoffs or weirdness. The vibration and heat both stay steady, so I don’t see why you couldn’t. If it’s convenient, go for it.

MemberThe only thing I’d actually pay attention to is where the charging port sits. Mine has the little flap on the side and when I’ve got it plugged in, the cable kind of digs into my shoulder if I lean back on the couch. So it’s less about whether it’s allowed and more about whether it’s comfortable. I ended up just charging it during dinner and then wearing it cable free for the rest of the night. Works better for me that way.
If you’re mostly sitting upright at a desk it probably wouldn’t bug you at all. Lying down is where it got annoying for me.

MemberThe one thing I’d actually check is the heat side, not the charging. Mine gets noticeably warmer on the far infrared setting after about 20 minutes, and if it’s also plugged in I end up taking it off sooner than I would otherwise. Not because anything goes wrong, just that the warmth stacks up and it stops feeling relaxing. So if you’re doing a long session with heat on, the plug matters less than how long you leave it on. For pulse or vibration only I don’t notice any difference between plugged in or not. I still mostly charge mine between uses just out of habit, but that’s more about not tripping over the cord than anything the device does.

MemberI usually just leave mine plugged in for my whole session since the battery never seems to last long anyway. It keeps running fine, no shutdowns or anything. The cord is short though, so I end up sitting kind of awkwardly next to the outlet.

Susan KennetMemberMine actually died quicker plugged in, so I stopped.

MemberMine runs fine while charging, I’ve done it a bunch of times when the battery was low and it never cut out on me. I usually just keep it plugged in for the whole session now.

MemberI don’t buy the whole “never use it plugged in” thing. Mine’s been fine running off the cord plenty of times and nothing weird happened. If the manual doesn’t say don’t, I wouldn’t lose sleep over it.

MemberI’ve used mine plugged in plenty of times and it’s been fine, but the thing I noticed is that the heat doesn’t feel as strong when it’s charging. Not sure why, maybe it just pulls less power or something. It still works, just feels a bit milder on the far infrared setting. So if I specifically want the warmth, I usually unplug it and let it run on battery. If I just want the pulse or vibration, I’ll leave it plugged in without thinking twice. No shutdowns or weird behavior either way. Might just be my unit, but that’s been my experience.

MemberPlugged mine in during a movie last weekend because it was flashing red. Worked the whole time, no shutoff, but there is one thing I noticed that might actually matter. When it is charging, the heat mode seems to cycle differently. Like it warms up then kind of backs off, warms up again. Not sure if that is intentional or just what happens when it is pulling power from the cord. Either way it was still usable, just felt less steady than when it runs off the battery alone. The manual for mine does not say anything about not using it while charging, so I figure if they wanted to warn people they would have put it in there. I still would not do it every single time just because I do not know what it does to the battery long term. But for an occasional session when you forgot to charge it, it works.

Laura CheckMemberI don’t leave mine plugged in the whole time, but I have used it while it was charging a few times and nothing bad happened. I figure if the manual doesn’t specifically say not to, it’s probably fine. I’d just keep an eye on it the first time or two.

MemberI mostly use mine plugged in when I’m at my desk since the battery always seems to run down at the worst time. It keeps working the whole time and I’ve never had it cut out on me. The cord is a little short though, so I end up sitting kind of close to the outlet.
