I’m thinking about getting a Breezi AC for my desk area, but I don’t always have ice or cold water on hand. Does it still cool decently with just regular tap water, or is the difference pretty noticeable? I’m not expecting it to replace a real AC, just want something for personal use. Anyone have thoughts?

Tap water alone was useless for me. It just moved air around and made the room feel damp. The cold water thing isn’t optional if you actually want cooling.

I’ve taken mine on a few work trips and honestly I just use whatever water is available, usually straight from the hotel sink. It still puts out a decent little breeze that feels good when you’re sitting right next to it. The cold water does make a difference but it’s not like it turns into a useless fan without it. For me the bigger thing is just being close to it, like within arm’s reach. If I’m across the room I can barely tell it’s doing anything. So if you’re planning to have it right on your desk pointed at you, regular tap water is fine. I wouldn’t drag a cooler full of ice around just for this thing. It’s more of a “nice to have” than a requirement in my experience.

Mine cooled fine with plain tap water.

Tap water gets you a slightly cool breeze, nothing more. The difference with cold water is pretty obvious once you try it back to back. If you’re mostly just fighting warm stale air at your desk, it’s fine. Don’t expect actual cooling from it though.

Mine worked fine with tap water for the first few weeks, then the cooling got weaker until I realized I hadn’t rinsed the little tank in a while. Once I cleaned it out it was back to normal. So it’s not really the water temp that got me, it was the maintenance part.

I’ve had mine for about two months and I use tap water probably 90% of the time. It’s not going to freeze you out, but it does put out a cooler breeze than a plain fan, and that’s really all I wanted from it. The ice thing is nice when you happen to have it, but I’m not going out of my way to freeze trays for a desk gadget. What surprised me is that it actually works better than I expected when the air in the room is dry. On humid days it feels like it’s barely doing anything, and that’s the part people don’t mention as much. So my take is tap water is fine for everyday use, just don’t expect miracles and pay attention to how muggy it is where you’re sitting.

Depends what you need it for. I keep a bottle in the fridge for mine, but on days I forget, tap water still gives a bit of relief if you’re sitting right in front of it. It won’t impress anyone, but it does something.

Cold water is overrated for this thing. I’ve run mine with room temp tap water for a couple months now and it still does what I need at my desk. The ice boost fades fast anyway, so I stopped bothering with it.

I’ve been using mine with tap water for about a month and it’s been fine for just sitting at my desk. The cooling is mild but that’s kind of what I expected from something this small. Cold water does make it feel nicer but I don’t bother most days.

I don’t bother with ice for mine and it still does enough for sitting right at my desk. What matters more to me is the noise level. If a cooler is loud, I won’t use it no matter how well it cools.

Room temp water is what I use and it does the job for me. I keep mine on the desk while I work and it takes the edge off enough that I don’t feel like I’m melting. It’s not a real AC though, so if you’re expecting that kind of cold you’ll be disappointed.

Room temp water never did much for me, the difference with cold water is honestly pretty big in my experience. I tried tap water for a week and ended up going back to keeping a bottle in the fridge. For a desk setup you notice it way more than you’d think.

Cold water makes a bigger difference than people here are letting on. I tried mine with plain tap water for a couple days and the air felt barely cooler than just running the fan. Switched to chilled water and it was noticeably better right away.

I’ve had mine for about three months now and I’ll say the cold water thing is a bit overblown in my experience. I used ice the first week because that’s what everyone talks about, then just got lazy and started filling it from the tap. Honestly the difference is there but it’s not like night and day for me. What I noticed more is that it matters how close you keep it. I have mine maybe two feet away on the desk and it does fine with regular water. When I had it across the room it didn’t do much of anything. So if you’re planning to have it right next to you while you work, tap water should be plenty. Do you run yours on the mist setting much? I usually leave mine on low mist and it feels better than high fan without it.

Cold water is the whole point for me. I tried mine with plain tap water for a bit and it just felt like a fan blowing around humid air. Once I started dropping ice in, it actually felt like it was doing something.

Anyone claiming cold water is optional is probably not paying attention to how these things actually work. The whole cooling effect comes from evaporation, and evaporation is slower with warmer water. That is just basic physics, not some brand-specific quirk. So yeah, tap water will blow air around, but calling it “cooling” is generous. It is more like a damp fan at that point. If you want the thing to do what it says on the box, you need cold water or ice. Otherwise you are basically just paying for a humid breeze. I would not buy one expecting it to perform the same without the cold part. That is the feature, not a bonus.

I actually run mine with room temp water most afternoons and it’s been fine for just sitting at my desk. It’s not gonna freeze you or anything but it takes the edge off when the room is stuffy. I do keep a small bottle in the fridge for really hot days though.

Water temp matters but not as much as people make it out to be. I ran mine with tap water for a week before trying ice and the difference was there, just not dramatic. If you’re close to it at a desk it does the job either way.
