I’d say the wire part is what actually makes it worth trying for moss, because the green stuff in cracks just laughs at regular line. My dad has a similar steel brush head on his old trimmer and he uses it on the patio every spring. It does scrape the moss out of the gaps, but the big thing I noticed is that it works best when the moss is a bit dry. After rain it just smears around and makes a mess. He goes over the same spots a couple of times and then sweeps it after. No trimmer line to mess with, which is the main reason he keeps using it. It’s not a miracle tool, but for a driveway with light green growth it seems to do the job without too much fuss.
I have a similar plan for mine actually, mostly for foreign films where subtitles aren’t an option. The few things I’ve tried so far came through well enough that I could follow what was happening. It’s not word for word perfect but I didn’t expect that anyway.
For reading in a tent I’d honestly just keep the old lantern. The combo thing is handy but it’s more of a mood light than a proper reading light in my experience.
For what it’s worth, I actually prefer remotes that don’t reach through walls. I know that sounds odd but hear me out. I keep my fan on the dresser in my spare room and the remote lives on the nightstand in my actual bedroom. If the thing could blast through drywall I’d be switching it on and off from bed without realizing it, or worse, my kid would grab it and mess with the speed while I’m not looking. The short range kind of works like a built in limit for me. That said I get why it’s annoying if you wanted to control it from the kitchen or something. Mine only cooperates when I’m basically in the same space too, so you’re not dealing with some broken unit as far as I can tell. It just seems to be how this particular remote behaves.
I keep translation mode off for movies myself. The delay throws off the timing for me, especially with jokes, and I end up missing the reaction because the line lands late. Regular audio through them is totally fine though, that part I have no complaints about.
I actually tested this exact thing when I first got mine because I was worried about the same issue. The strobe is bright enough that it still glows through thin fabric, like a t-shirt or a light jacket. I clipped mine to my belt loop under a hoodie once and you could definitely see the flashing through the material. It wasn’t as intense as when it’s fully exposed, but it was noticeable. With something thicker like a winter coat, yeah, that would probably block most of it. So it kind of depends on what you’re wearing. For a keychain setup though, I find that just letting it hang outside my pocket works fine and I don’t really think about it much. The siren is loud enough that the light almost feels like a bonus anyway.
I’m still deciding on one myself, but the darkness thing is what keeps tripping me up too. My sister runs hers in a room with a nightlight and it still catches mosquitoes, so total pitch black doesn’t sound mandatory. The bug draw just seems weaker when there’s a lot of other light competing.
I actually disagree with the idea that it’s just a gadget. I borrowed my brother’s JetClean for a couple of weekends specifically because my hose nozzle was driving me up the wall with how little it did against dried dirt. The difference was obvious the first time I used it. With the hose, I’d soak the car, scrub, soak again, scrub again, and still see that brown film hanging around on the lower doors and rocker panels. With the JetClean on the narrower setting, that stuff came off in one pass. I didn’t have to keep going back over the same spot.
The part that surprised me was how much less water I went through. I filled a bucket, dropped the intake hose in, and got the whole car done without refilling, which never happens with my garden hose setup. I know that sounds like a small thing, but when you’re dragging a hose around the driveway and fighting the kinks, having no cord and no faucet connection is a big deal for me. I did the wheels first, then the body, and still had battery left when I finished.
It’s not going to blast off caked-on mud the way a big pressure washer would, but you said you don’t need pro-level power. For normal road grime and dust, it’s a real step up from a plain sprayer. I’m planning to get my own instead of borrowing his again, mostly because I got tired of handing it back.
I have a feeling the sound quality question comes down more to your car’s system than the adapter itself. The wireless part is just moving the data, it’s not like the music is being compressed again or anything. I would say if you’re not unhappy with how your current wired setup sounds, you probably won’t notice a difference going wireless.
I actually find it kind of annoying that mine doesn’t match my watch either, but I’ve just accepted it at this point. The scale takes a reading when you’re standing still and holding the handle, while my watch is tracking me all day, so of course they’re not going to line up perfectly. I stopped comparing them and just use whichever one I happen to look at.
I keep mine in the living room which also has carpet, and I never really thought about it until now honestly. It’s been on the floor for about a month since I swapped it from my desk setup and the airflow seems the same to me. I do notice the carpet fibers flatten out a bit underneath if I move it, but that’s about it. Maybe if you have really thick plush carpet it could block something, but mine is just standard medium pile and I haven’t seen any change in how fast the room cools down. I think people worry about this more than they need to, but I also get wanting to check before you buy. The unit is light enough that if you did notice an issue you could easily pop it on a low stool or something.
I think it depends on what you’re really after. I swapped mine out mostly because I got tired of hunching over the old heater just to feel something. The CoolCove is definitely more of a direct blast, so if you’re sitting close to it, it’s great. But if you’re expecting the whole room to feel warm like a radiator, you’ll probably be disappointed.
Mine does the same thing, I think it’s just how it lets you know it’s done. I actually noticed it more when I run it before bed, it catches me off guard sometimes. But it hasn’t caused any issues, so I just let it do its thing.
I keep meaning to look into this myself because the screen is seriously bright on dark roads. I’ve been thinking about trying one of those little anti-glare screen protectors, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet. Let me know if you figure out a menu trick, I’d love to avoid the tape route if possible.
I’d say give it a bit more time before you judge it. I was confused the first couple weeks too because mine would spike when I felt totally fine. For me it’s more useful looking at the overall trend over the week than what it says at any random moment. I’ve started checking mine more at night or in the morning to see if my day was more draining than I realized.
I think some people are way too sensitive about the fan noise on this thing. I’m a pretty light sleeper myself and I’ve had mine running every night for about two weeks now. The hum is there but it’s so steady and low that my brain just tunes it out after a few minutes. I actually find the silence weirder when it’s off.
I’ve had mine plugged in since the day I got it and it’s been totally fine. It sits on a shelf behind the TV where I never touch it, and I only notice it when I’m swapping HDMI ports for something else. It’s warm if I actually grab it, but nothing that’s ever made me think twice. I’d say it’s just the normal way these little sticks are.
Honestly mine doesn’t really get warm, and I’ve worn it for full work days where I’m on my feet a lot. Maybe I just run cold or my leg isn’t as sensitive to it, but I’ve never noticed any heat buildup. I guess it depends on the person.
Mine paired with my Samsung without much fuss, but I’ll admit it wasn’t the smoothest first try. It took a minute for the app to recognize them, and I had to restart the Bluetooth once. Since then it’s been fine, but I wouldn’t say it’s flawless straight out of the box.
I had the same thing happen on my first try, so I don’t think it’s anything you’re doing wrong. I just did another pass over the spot with the cloth the next day and it was gone. Probably just needs a bit more elbow grease than you’d think.
I’d probably play it safe and stick with normal mode most of the time, then use strong when you actually see or feel buildup that won’t budge. That first strong mode zap is no joke, but I don’t think it’s dangerous if you’re careful. Just pay attention to how your gums feel after, if they’re sore the next day you’ll know you overdid it.
