I almost didn’t buy it for the same reason, but I’ve had mine for about three months now and it’s been fine. The trick I found is not to let the hairs get super long before trimming, so I just do a quick pass every few days. It never really tugs unless I’ve neglected it for like two weeks.
I think for a 6-year-old it comes down to how much patience you have. The guard definitely makes it less scary, but I wouldn’t say it’s totally foolproof if they wiggle a lot. For tiny nails it does the job, just takes a bit longer than you’d expect.
Pretty much any AA will do the trick, no need to hunt down anything fancy. I’d just grab whatever’s cheapest or on sale since it’s just for stirring.
Honestly I think if you’re getting even a couple hours of decent sun it should probably be fine. I don’t have mine in full sun either and it’s still been working through the night so far. I’d just go for it and see how it does in that spot.
I’ve got old pipes too and honestly mine’s been working fine so far. The water feels a little nicer on my skin, but I haven’t checked the filter yet. I’m curious if anything shows up after a few more weeks though.
I mean, I figure if it’s on the box they probably tested it a bit. I got mine for spiders mostly, but I haven’t really noticed a mosquito problem since I plugged it in, so maybe it helps. Not like I’m doing a science experiment over here, but it seems fine.
I think part of it depends on what kind of dirt you’re dealing with. I’ve noticed it helps a bit with bug splatters if you get to them fast, but for general grime buildup it’s pretty subtle. Probably not worth going out of your way for unless you already have a bottle lying around. I mostly just use it for the rain beading effect on the highway, the cleaning part is just a bonus.
I’ve had mine for a few weeks and honestly, it’s not that deep. It’s just a fan with a water tank, so yeah, you feel cooler if you’re sitting right there, but it’s not changing the whole room. I keep it on my desk and it’s fine for what it is, no big drama.

I don’t know, I feel like 15 minutes would be enough if you’re not trying to do a deep clean every time. I’d probably just use it to chase the dust out the door after sweeping the bigger piles.
Thanks everyone for the input, that pretty much clears it up for me. Sounds like I’ll just need to keep my normal sunglasses handy and not worry too much about the audio unless I’m standing next to a busy road. Appreciate the help!
Oh I’ve been wondering the same thing actually. I figure if you just go slow and don’t press down like you’re trying to carve a rock, it probably works fine on glass. Might grab one to try on a plain vase sometime.
Huh, that’s weird. I haven’t actually gotten mine yet, I was about to order one but now I’m a bit hesitant. I mostly just want it for my desk at work, so I wouldn’t be sitting super far away anyway.
I’ve only tried mine on a few short calls but honestly it handled the rapid switching fine for me. I was a bit worried about it lagging but it kept up well enough for what I needed. I’d say just go for it if you’re mostly doing quick check ins.
I’ve been curious about the mounting too, but honestly I figure if it’s light and you put it somewhere stable it’s probably fine for most people.
I haven’t tried NuraFix on plastic trim myself, mostly just used it on paint scratches and it worked fine. I could see how it might leave a bit of residue though, plastic can be tricky like that. I’d probably just try wiping it off with a damp cloth if it bothers you, but honestly I wouldn’t stress too much. It’s still a decent product for paint at least.
I usually just set mine for the longest timer and turn it on when I leave the room. The auto shutoff is nice because I don’t have to remember to turn it off later, but it’s not like it saves a ton of time or anything.
I think people make it sound more complicated than it really is. From what I’ve seen, it’s pretty flexible as long as you’re not expecting it to blast cold air across the whole room. You can probably put it on a desk and still feel a nice breeze, especially if you’re sitting nearby.
Honestly I wouldn’t overthink the height thing too much. I switched from a flat old pillow to the Derila and it felt a little tall for maybe two nights, then I got used to it. The foam sinks down a bit once you lay on it, so it’s not as drastic as it looks sitting on the bed.
I’ve been wondering the same thing. I feel like a lot of these glasses just make things slightly warmer or dimmer but don’t really fix the harshness of the new streetlights. It probably works fine enough to take the edge off, but I wouldn’t expect it to be a total game changer.
