How do you actually position the MrBold Pro for ear hair?

Got the MrBold Pro recently and it works fine for nose hair. But for ear hair I’m not sure if I’m supposed to just go in circles or what. The manual says gentle circular movements but that feels vague. I tried a bit and it didn’t pull or anything, just felt like I might be missing some spots. Do you angle it differently or just go straight in? Not a big deal, just curious how others do it.

I think the circular thing in the manual is more about not stabbing it straight in and scraping yourself. When I tried one at a friend’s place, I found it worked better to sort of ease the head in at a slight angle first, then do the circles once it’s already sitting against the skin. Going straight in like you would with a q-tip felt like it was just pushing hairs around instead of catching them. Nothing dramatic, but the angle made a difference for me. I only used it the one time though, so I’m not exactly an expert on it. Still, that’s the part I’d play with if I were you, rather than worrying about the circles themselves.

The circular thing is overblown. I just move it around the outer ear and it grabs whatever’s there. Missing a few strays isn’t a big deal anyway.

Circles still miss the flat parts of my ear. I just hold it still against the skin for a second, works better for me.

The circular motion thing never made much sense to me either. I’ve had mine for about three months now and what actually works is just pressing the head flat against the skin and letting it sit there for a second or two before moving to the next spot. The 360 blades grab hair from any direction so you don’t really need to swirl it around. I do the outer rim first, then tilt it slightly to get the little pocket area near the opening. Takes maybe thirty seconds per ear. The first couple times I definitely left some strays because I was rushing and barely touching the skin. Once I started actually making contact instead of hovering it around, it got way more consistent. The rounded guards mean you can press in without it biting you, which is honestly the main reason I stopped worrying about the angle so much. Mine hasn’t pulled once, which is more than I can say for the cheap one I had before.

Angling it doesn’t really matter with these rotary heads, the 360 blade grabs hair from any direction. What actually helps is slowing down and doing small passes instead of one big circle. I still miss a few strays but that’s more about my ear shape than technique.

I don’t own one yet but I’m watching this thread since ear hair is the main reason I’d buy it. My preference would be a trimmer I can just run along the outer ear without thinking too hard. The circular instruction is what’s making me hesitate.

I’m still deciding whether to get one of these, so I’ve been reading everything I can find about the ear part specifically. The circular thing in the manual does sound weirdly vague to me too. The way I picture it, the head is round anyway, so you’re probably meant to sort of roll it along the ear rather than really pressing or jabbing. Like small slow circles over the areas where the hair is, not one big loop around the whole ear. That’s what I’d try first, anyway. I don’t own one yet so I can’t say if that actually catches everything. Curious whether people find it easier when the hair is a bit longer or right after a shower. I usually trim when it’s dry and it’s always a bit fiddly.

I keep going back and forth on whether to get one since ear hair is my main thing too. One thing I noticed reading around is that some people say the head gets warm if you run it too long, which makes me wonder how it handles a full ear session. Does that come up for you?

Angling it doesn’t really change much in my experience. The head grabs hair either way, so just go straight in and make sure you’re actually hitting the folds around the ear opening. That’s where I kept missing spots at first.

I got mine mostly for my dad since his ear hair bugs him, and he just holds it still for a couple seconds in each spot rather than circling. Seems to work fine for him. I still think the whole circular motion thing is just something they put in every manual.

I might be the odd one out here but I actually don’t go circular at all anymore. When I had a rotary one I found that pressing it flat against the ear opening and kind of letting it sit there for a second worked better for me than swirling it around. The swirling motion just felt like I was polishing the inside of my ear rather than cutting anything. What I do now is more of a slow in and out, like little dips around the edges where the hair actually grows. The tricky part is the outer rim though, none of these really get that clean in my experience. I still keep a tiny pair of scissors for the bits right on the edge. Not saying circular is wrong, just that my ears seem to grow hair in weird patches and the swirl missed half of them until I switched it up.

Mine does fine on ear hair and I don’t overthink the angle. I just sort of swirl it around the opening for a few seconds. The hair around the outer edge is the part I always have to go back for.

The circular thing is mostly marketing fluff. I’ve had mine a few months and straight in works the same as swirling it around. If you’re missing spots it’s probably just ear geometry, not your technique.

Mine actually works way better if I don’t go straight in at all. I tilt it slightly and sort of sweep it along the outer edge first, then do the inside. Going straight in just pushes the longer stuff around for me.

I actually use mine differently for ears than my nose. For ears I pull the outer ear back a little with my other hand first, which opens things up way more than any angle change. Takes like ten seconds per ear and I catch way more of the fine stuff that way. Just thought I’d throw that out since the manual doesn’t mention it.

Works fine for me just going in straight, no circles. Takes a few passes in different spots since ear hair grows in weird directions. Does the job though.

I don’t even do circles on mine, honestly. Straight in works fine for me. I did notice it grabs way more if the head is totally dry though. Tried it once right after a shower and it barely picked anything up, so now I just use it before I wash my face.

Straight in, wiggle a bit, done.

I do a little twist as I pull it out instead of full circles, if that makes sense? Kinda like a slow corkscrew motion. Sounds weird but it catches the ones growing sideways that a straight pass misses. Takes me maybe twenty seconds per ear.

I tried circles and it did basically nothing for me. Going straight in didn’t feel like it grabbed much either. What actually worked was doing several slow passes from a couple different directions. Still not convinced it gets everything, but good enough.
