I move around a lot in my sleep and usually end up on my back or side by morning. The Derila Ergo looks like it has a specific shape, so I’m wondering if it still works if you switch positions a lot. Or does it only really help if you stay in one spot? Just curious before I decide.

I move around a fair bit too and it mostly stayed put. The shape sort of nudges you back into place when you roll, but it’s not like it locks you in. Worst case you shove it aside around 3am and wake up hugging a corner of it.

I move around a lot too and the shape never really clicked for me. Kept ending up on my side with my neck at a weird angle, so I went back to a normal pillow. Might just be my sleeping style though.

The whole point of that shape is that it kind of guides your head back when you move. If you’re a wild sleeper though, it can only do so much. I’d say the winged design helps more for side and back switching than for someone doing full 360s all night.

I’m a pretty wild sleeper and honestly the shape just confused me more than anything. Woke up with it shoved off to the side half the time. Maybe it works if you stay put but that’s not me.

Mine actually stays put pretty well even when I flip around, but I wake up on my stomach sometimes and that’s when it stops making any sense. The shape just isn’t built for that. So if you end up on your back or side like you said, you’re probably fine.

Mine actually handles the tossing fine. I flop around plenty and it still does its thing without me fighting it. Took a few nights to get used to the shape but now I barely notice it’s there.

My experience was kind of the opposite of what you’d expect with a shaped pillow. I figured I’d have to fight it all night since I flip from side to back constantly, but it actually made me settle down more. Not because it traps you or anything, it just felt less comfortable to sprawl out with it under my head, so I stayed more in one lane than usual. Weird side effect honestly. I still move some, but way less than with my old flat pillow. So for me it kind of worked by making the tossing less appealing, not by forcing me to stay put. If you really thrash around though, that might not be your experience at all. Bodies are different.

Mine slid around so much it ended up on the floor.

I gave up on shaped pillows for this exact reason. Woke up with my head nowhere near the dip more nights than not, so the design did nothing for me. If you actually stay put it might be fine, but that’s not most people.

The whole premise that a shaped pillow stops working when you move is backwards, in my experience. I had a cheaper contour pillow before this one that actually did fall apart once I rolled around, so I get why people assume that. But the fixed shape isn’t the thing that breaks when you switch positions. It’s whether the pillow is heavy and grippy enough to stay where you left it.

I move a lot at night, not just a little. Side, back, sometimes half on my face. I’ve used the Derila Ergo for around three months now. The foam is dense enough that it doesn’t scoot off the bed the second I turn. My old pillow was lighter and it would end up wedged against the headboard by 3am. This one mostly stays. When I land on my back the neck bump still lines up fine. On my side the wing part gives my jaw somewhere to sit so my head isn’t craning down.

Where I’ll push back on the hype is the claim that it’s equally great in every position. It isn’t. On my stomach it’s useless, the shape fights you. But that’s true of basically any ergonomic pillow and it’s not really the question being asked.

So no, it doesn’t only help if you stay in one spot. The bigger issue for most people is just getting used to the shape for the first week or so.

Mine doesn’t care where my head ends up. I roll from side to back all night and it still feels fine, no fighting with it. So the shape thing hasn’t been an issue for me at all.

I honestly don’t buy that the shape only works if you stay put. I roll onto my side and back all night and mine still supports my neck fine, the dip doesn’t magically stop working just because you moved. The whole point is that it’s built for different positions anyway.

I have to respectfully push back on the idea that shaped pillows are useless for restless sleepers. I’m probably the most active sleeper I know, and I’ve been using the Derila Ergo for about three months now. I don’t wake up in the same position I fell asleep in, not even close, but the pillow still helps. For me the neck support is what matters, not whether my head is perfectly centered in the dip. When I end up on my back, the lower curve keeps my neck from flattening out. When I roll to my side, the wing part gives my shoulder somewhere to go instead of pushing my head up at a weird angle. I think people assume the shape has to line up exactly, but it’s more forgiving than that. It’s not like a rigid mold or anything. The foam gives enough that even when I’m halfway between positions it still feels okay. So no, you don’t have to stay in one spot for it to do something.

I actually prefer a flatter pillow for this exact reason, so maybe I’m not the target buyer here. I tried a shaped one a while back and the whole thing felt fussy to me because I’d wake up with my cheek mashed into the raised edge instead of the middle. I don’t think it’s that the pillow stops working when you move, more that how you land on it matters a lot. If I roll onto my stomach at some point, a shape with a dip and wings just gets in the way. So for me it’s less about staying in one spot and more about whether the shape happens to match where your head naturally ends up. The Derila might be totally fine if you mostly go back and side, but if you sometimes end up face down, that’s where I’d expect it to feel off. That’s just my two cents though.

The wings on the sides actually help when I roll onto my back. They keep my head from sliding off to one side like it did with my old pillow. I still wake up on my side sometimes, but it hasn’t been an issue.

Mine shifts around with me fine.

I move a ton too, mostly from side to stomach, and the Derila handled the side part fine. The stomach position was the awkward one for me since nothing really supports your neck there. Still kept it though.

Mine ended up getting pushed off the bed most nights when I was rolling around, so I stopped using it. The shape just didn’t stay put for me once I started moving.

I roll around plenty and it’s been fine for me. The shape doesn’t lock you into one spot like it looks like it would. Some nights I wake up on my back and it’s still comfortable.

Good to hear it doesn’t lock you into one spot, that was my main hangup. Still on the fence but less worried about the shape now. Might just order one and see how the first week goes.
