When I first started looking at the Glokore mask I was convinced I needed something fully wireless, like zero wires ever, because I pictured myself wandering around the house getting stuff done while it ran. After reading way too many reviews and actually thinking about how I use things, my opinion flipped a bit. Now I honestly don’t care as much about being untethered the whole time. My personal preference is that I’d rather have a reliable charge than total freedom, because I know myself and I will forget to plug things in until the worst possible moment.
The wire thing confused me at first too, but from what I gathered the mask itself doesn’t need to stay attached while you’re wearing it, the wire is more for recharging the little control unit. So you’re not literally stuck sitting by an outlet unless the battery is dead. That said, I’ve noticed with a lot of these devices the wireless claim is a bit generous, because you still have a pod or pack somewhere on you. It’s not like you’re floating around completely free.
I think my bigger hesitation now is just whether I’d actually stick with using it three times a week. The power setup matters less to me than whether it becomes another thing that sits in a drawer. So I’m still on the fence, but the cord situation isn’t the dealbreaker I thought it was going to be.
I actually care way more about whether it just works when I land than the exact country count. After a long flight I want to turn it on and have it connect without me digging through settings, and mine has done that so far.
The softer rim is the main thing I noticed too. Mine’s still in the box by the fridge, so I haven’t actually tried it on anyone yet either. I keep meaning to pull it out and at least see how the adult mask sits on my husband before I forget how it goes.
I kind of disagree with the idea that it’s a gimmick, but it’s also not some magic fix for a cold room. I got one mainly for the mornings and it warms up the air right around my chair, but the rest of the room still feels cool until the sun comes up. The tip-over shutoff is the one thing I actually trust.
The strobe really does need to be visible to matter, but that doesn’t mean you have to carry the thing hanging out in the open all day. I got one for my mom last year because she walks early mornings before it’s fully light out, and she keeps it clipped to the strap of her crossbody bag. The light faces out, the bag sits at her hip, and it’s not covered by anything. That was kind of the whole point of picking that spot. She tried clipping it to a jacket zipper first, but the pull tab kept catching on stuff when she reached for things, so the bag strap ended up being the better setup for her.
If your shirt is over it, you’re basically just getting the siren, which is still the loud part. I don’t think there’s a magic answer for carrying it under clothes and still getting the light. Somewhere on the outside of whatever you’re already wearing or carrying is the only way the strobe actually does anything.
I’m still deciding on a pair myself, so I’ve been reading these with interest. One thing I noticed when I tried a demo set at the store was the earbuds felt a little loose until I swapped to a smaller tip, and that alone made voices clearer. Not saying that fixes everything, but fit seems to matter more than I expected for just chatting with one person.
I don’t think the app is optional for translation, at least not in my experience. Bluetooth by itself just handles audio, the actual translating happens on your phone. I still have to have the app open when I want to use it.
I mainly use mine in a normal-height room so I can’t speak to the ceiling part directly, but I did notice it does better when I close the door to whatever room I’m in. In an open space it kind of just warms the spot right around it. Might be worth trying it somewhere smaller first if you can.
I usually keep mine pretty close to where I’m sitting, honestly. If the draft is coming right off the window, having it on the sill or the desk nearby makes the most sense to me, since you’re the one that needs to feel it. I tried moving mine across the room once and regretted it, the warmth just doesn’t travel that far.
Mine alerts almost right away, like within a second or two of him stepping past the line I set. My old tracker was the same way as yours, super laggy, so I get the hesitation. But I haven’t seen that issue with this one, even when he’s in the treeline behind our house.
I’m still figuring out if I even like pulse mode enough to turn it up that high. I’ve only gone past the middle once and it definitely felt strange, almost like little electric pinches. Maybe I just prefer it lower or with the heat on at the same time. It seems like one of those things you either get used to or decide isn’t for you.
I’m probably in the minority here, but I actually think the wind noise thing gets blown out of proportion. My father-in-law uses his Omnihear mostly when he’s walking around our neighborhood and it can get pretty gusty near the waterfront. He’s never complained about the wind being unbearable. It’s there, sure, but it’s not like the device is useless the second a breeze picks up. To me, the outdoor mode seems to prioritize voices over the whooshing, so he can still hear me when we’re walking side by side.
I get why people worry about it, but I wouldn’t let that be the deciding factor. If your dad is struggling to hear in the park now, even a little wind noise is probably better than missing the whole conversation. That was our thinking anyway.
The droplets on the glass never really bother me since the glasses cut the worst of the glare from other cars.
I tried mine near a train station entrance once and it was hit or miss depending on what was happening around me. Steady background noise like people talking or traffic seemed fine, but sudden sounds like a horn or a loud announcement threw it off for a second. I’d say it helps, but don’t expect it to block out everything so it can still work when it’s really chaotic.
I had the same thought before I got mine, but I actually asked my service advisor about it when I was in for something unrelated. He said as long as it’s just an OBD2 plug-in and not messing with the wiring, they really don’t care. It’s the stuff that requires cutting or splicing that gets flagged.
I’d grab one anyway, since most of these ship with just the basic plastic film thats not meant to last.
I think it’s mainly built for the standard sizes most people run, so if you’re switching between something unusual you might be out of luck. I’d check the exact pitch measurements before ordering, because I’ve seen folks assume it’s universal and then get stuck with one that only really suits their main saw.
I kept having the same problem at first, and honestly I think it just takes a bit of fiddling to find where it sits best on you. I noticed mine slips way more if I have it too loose in the front, so I started pulling the straps a little tighter before I lean over and it helps a lot. It still moves some when I get up, but it doesn’t feel like it’s about to fall off anymore. I also wonder if it depends on what you’re wearing. I tried it over a hoodie once and it slid around way more than when I wear it on bare skin or a thin shirt. I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong, it might just be the way the weight sits on your frame.
I’ve used mine with a bucket a bunch of times when I’m too lazy to drag the hose out. It does pull from the bucket fine, but I won’t lie, you can tell the pressure drops a little compared to when it’s hooked up to the hose. Still enough for a quick rinse or getting suds off the car though. I just make sure the filter stays fully submerged or it sucks air and sputters.
I’ve seen a couple of people say the motion in water makes the rating iffy, but honestly it’s been the opposite for me.
I never really trust step counts on any of these bands to be perfectly accurate. I mainly use mine to see if I’ve been a total couch potato that day, so a few extra steps from doing dishes or folding clothes doesn’t bother me much. It’s just a ballpark number as far as I’m concerned.
I think I’m in the minority here, but I’d actually skip the bucket method for this. I like being able to move the spray around without worrying about where the intake hose is sitting, and with a bucket you’re kind of stuck staying close to it. For a quick bike or patio chair rinse it’s probably fine, but for a full car I’d want something more continuous.
