Ben KerrMemberI’ve been wearing the DrFlexa for a couple of days now and it seems to loosen up after a few hours of walking. Is that just how it goes or am I not tightening it right? It’s not sliding down, just feels less snug. Any tips?

MemberMine settled down after the first week.

Mike RunnerMemberMine stayed snug, so maybe yours is just on wrong.

MemberMine actually got looser the more I wore it, not less. I ended up going a size down and that fixed it.

Chris MillerMemberMine does something kind of similar but it happens at a different point in the day. I put it on in the morning before work and it feels fine, then by lunch it has that slightly looser feel you’re describing. Not falling down, just less locked in. For me it turned out to be less about the straps and more about how much my leg swells up during the day. Sitting at a desk for a few hours then walking around, my knee area changes a bit and the brace just sits differently.
What I started doing was putting it on after I’d been up and moving for a bit instead of right when I wake up. That way it’s adjusted to my leg at its normal size, not the morning version. Sounds a little weird but it made a real difference for me. The afternoon looseness mostly went away.
I did try cranking the straps tighter at first and that just made it dig in and get uncomfortable, so I don’t think over tightening is the answer. It’s more about when you put it on than how hard you pull.
Anyway that’s just my experience with it. Two days in is pretty early too, your body is probably still figuring out how it sits on you.

northshoreParticipantLoose after a few hours sounds like the straps are just stretching with movement, not you doing it wrong. Mine never really did that though, so I’d say it’s more about how the brace sits on you than some universal thing. Maybe check the top strap stays put when you bend.

Tom RayMemberMine does the same thing and I honestly think it’s just the nature of velcro straps under repeated tension. I’ve had a few braces over the years and the ones with straps like this always need a mid-day tweak. What I started doing is snugging it up slightly tighter than feels right when I first put it on, because I know it’ll relax a bit once I’m moving around. Not so tight it cuts off circulation, just a touch more than comfortable. That’s worked fine for me. I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong. It’s just how these things behave once you’re actually walking around instead of standing still in the mirror. The anti-slip grips seem to do their job regardless, since mine never slides down either, just loosens up a bit. I’d say just get used to a quick adjustment here and there.

MemberMine doesn’t really do that, but I only wear it for an hour or two at a time so maybe it just needs longer to show up. Could be that the straps stretch a bit more on longer walks though, especially if you’re moving a lot. I’d try tightening it a touch more before you head out and see if that holds.

Dave RunnerMemberMine actually got tighter if anything after the first hour or so, not looser. Different knees I guess. I’d say it’s probably just how you’re strapping it, not the brace itself.

JSmithParticipantI don’t have the DrFlexa specifically, but I’ve used a few knee sleeves and straps over the years, and the looseness after a few hours thing usually comes down to how the straps sit on your leg rather than you doing something wrong. If your leg changes shape at all through the day, even a little swelling or the muscle warming up, the fit shifts a bit. That’s just how it goes with anything adjustable.
For me, I figured out I prefer a snugger fit right off the bat and then just leave it alone instead of fiddling with it all day. Some people like it loose and re-tighten later, which is fine too, just a preference thing. If it’s not sliding down then the anti-slip part is probably doing its job. I’d say just wear it a bit longer and see if it keeps happening or if it settles into a spot you’re happy with.

Luis_A91MemberMine got a little loose the first week too but it settled in after that. I did end up going half a size down on my second one and that helped more than any strapping trick. If it’s not sliding down you’re probably fine though.

MemberMine loosens up a bit too but only if I’ve been moving a lot. I’ve noticed it happens more on days I’m up and down stairs a lot versus just sitting at my desk. What I do is readjust once mid day if I remember, just a quick tug on the top strap. Not a full re-strap, just snug it back up. I don’t think it’s a tightening mistake, the material just gives a little with heat and movement. I actually prefer that over something that stays super stiff all day. I had a different brace that was rigid and it stayed put but was miserable after a couple hours. So for me a little looseness is fine as long as it’s not sliding down. If it starts slipping then yeah, something’s off, but just feeling less snug after walking around is normal in my experience.

MemberMine felt a bit looser after a while too, but it was pretty subtle so I never messed with it. I just snug it up once midday if I remember and that’s been fine. Could be the straps or could just be how it sits on your leg.

MemberI don’t think it’s a tightening issue at all. A few hours of walking will do that to almost any brace, especially if you’re actually moving rather than sitting around. The material warms up and your leg changes shape a bit as the day goes on, so the fit naturally shifts. That’s just normal with wearable stuff.
What I’d push back on is the idea that you need to fix it by strapping it tighter. That usually backfires. Too much tension early on and you end up with pressure points or it rolls or bunches once you start sweating. Better to start at a comfortable snug and accept that it’ll relax a little over the day.
If it’s not sliding down and it’s just less snug, that sounds like it’s doing its job. A brace doesn’t need to feel locked on the whole time to give support. I’d leave it alone unless it actually starts moving around on you.

MemberA little settling after a few hours is pretty normal with these adjustable ones. Mine does the same thing on longer days and it’s never slid down on me either, just goes a bit softer. I usually give the straps a quick tug when I notice it and that’s it.
