I’ve used the WineCork Pro a few times and it’s been fine. The foil cutter that comes with it works, but I keep misplacing it. Is it worth getting a separate one or does the built-in one on the opener actually work well for you? I’m not sure if I’m just being clumsy or if others have the same issue. It’s a small thing but it bugs me every time I open a bottle.

I ended up just buying a cheap standalone cutter after losing the included one twice. The one that came with my opener worked fine when I actually kept track of it, but that was the whole problem. It’s tiny and there’s no real spot to store it on the unit, so it just wanders off. A separate cutter lives in the drawer with the bottle stoppers and I always know where it is. The built-in thing isn’t bad, it’s more that I’m bad at keeping small loose objects around. Some people probably have better luck tossing it in the same spot every time. I don’t think you need anything fancy, just a basic one that stays put somewhere obvious. Mine was a few bucks and I haven’t lost it yet, which is honestly a low bar but here we are.

I’ve got the foil cutter sitting in a little dish on the counter next to the opener now, mostly because I got tired of digging through the drawer for it every time. That’s not really about the cutter itself though, more about me being disorganized. When I actually use it, it does the job fine. Cuts through the foil in one twist, no tearing, no fighting with it. So I don’t think you’re clumsy exactly, it’s just a small loose object that’s easy to set down somewhere and forget.

My actual issue with the built-in one is more about the whole flow. You’ve got the opener, then the cutter, then the bottle, and by the time I’ve set everything down and picked it back up I’m basically doing a three step dance at the counter. A separate cutter wouldn’t fix that for me, it’d just add another thing to keep track of. If anything I’d rather have it attached to the opener somehow, but that’s not how mine works.

I haven’t bought a standalone one yet. I keep meaning to grab one when I see them at the store and then I forget, which probably tells you how much it actually bothers me in practice. It’s one of those things that annoys me in the moment and then I move on. So if it’s bugging you every single time, maybe that’s your answer, but for me the included one has been fine once I stopped losing it.

The built-in cutter on mine wore out after a couple months, so I wouldn’t rely on it long term. A cheap standalone one has lasted way longer for me.

The little cutter that came with mine has been fine for years. I don’t get the whole panic about misplacing it. It lives in the drawer with the opener, that’s it. People act like losing a two dollar piece of plastic is a crisis. Buy a spare if it bugs you, but a standalone cutter isn’t some upgrade. It does the exact same thing. I’ve used plenty of those separate ones at other people’s houses and they cut foil no better or worse. The blade gets dull eventually either way. So if the built in one still works, keep using it and stop fussing. If you really can’t keep track of it, fine, grab another one. Just don’t expect it to be an improvement.

I gave up on keeping track of the little one that came with mine and just use a separate cutter now. The built in one always felt a bit fiddly to me anyway, so having a standalone one on the counter is just easier. It’s a small thing but it does make opening a bottle less annoying.

Mine actually disappeared for like three weeks and I just started using a paring knife, which was dumb. Then I found it wedged behind the utensil holder and now it stays clipped to the opener itself with one of those tiny hair ties my daughter leaves everywhere. So the included one clearly works, I just needed to attach it to something.

I’d probably skip the separate cutter for now. The one on my opener does the job, but I still find myself reaching for it less because I forget it’s attached until I’m already wrestling with the foil. So it’s less about it not working and more about me not using it out of habit.

I just use the foil cutter that came with mine and it’s still going after a year or so. Honestly I don’t get the fuss about misplacing it, mine just lives in the same spot. If you keep losing yours though, a cheap separate one wouldn’t hurt.

I haven’t really had that problem with mine, the cutter still works fine after a bunch of bottles. Misplacing it sounds more like an organizing thing than the cutter being bad. I’d just grab a cheap separate one if it keeps bugging you, no harm in having a backup.

I’d just use a separate one.

I just keep the built-in cutter clipped to the opener now. Used a separate one for a while but it ended up in the same drawer black hole. The one on the opener has worked fine for me.

I wouldn’t bother with a separate cutter. I keep mine in the little pouch with the opener and it’s been fine for months. Losing it sounds like a habit thing, not a reason to buy another one.

Fair enough, I think I was just overthinking it like usual. I’ll stick with the one that came with it for now and see how it goes. Thanks for all the input, nice to know I’m not the only one who’s been down this rabbit hole.
