The “thousands” number is technically there, but it’s mostly a counting trick. I got one of these for my living room because I didn’t want to dig out my old consoles every time I felt like playing something.
What I noticed pretty quickly is that there’s a ton of overlap. You’ll see the same game show up under different names or region versions, and there are some obvious hacked ROMs in there that are just the original game with a different title screen. So yeah, the number is padded.
That said, I didn’t really buy it for the exact count. I just wanted something where I could scroll around and land on a random beat ’em up or platformer for twenty minutes. It does that fine. The library is big enough that I keep finding stuff I haven’t tried, even if a chunk of it is filler. If you’re the type who needs to know you’re getting five hundred truly unique games, this probably isn’t for you. But for casual pick-up-and-play, it does the job.
I had the same thing happen with mine. It would rack up steps just from me sitting at my desk and moving my arm around to grab stuff. My old band was way more conservative with that. I stopped comparing them after a few days and just picked one to trust, otherwise it drives you crazy.
The case thing is honestly just for convenience, not for the tracking itself. I think people get hung up on that because the product photos always show it tucked into a fancy wallet or a MagSafe holder, but the actual Find My connection doesn’t care about the case at all. The whole network works through Bluetooth and other Apple devices around you, so the card just needs to be within range of *any* iPhone, not specifically yours.
That said, there is a small catch. If you’re walking around with it loose in your pocket or bag, it’s still fine because your phone will pick it up constantly. But if you leave the wallet at home or in another room, the location updates depend on random Apple devices passing by. That’s true no matter what case you use though, so I wouldn’t let that be the deciding factor.
I use mine in a card holder that doesn’t even close properly, and I still get left-behind alerts whenever I forget it on my desk at work. The case is just a protective shell, really. If anything, keeping it loose might make it easier to charge since you can just toss it on any wireless pad without fiddling with a holder.
Only thing I’d say is make sure you set it up properly in the Find My app, because the first time I paired mine I didn’t realize it needed the firmware update to show up reliably. After that it’s been smooth.
Filters aren’t that bad price wise, but I wouldn’t overthink it. I just swap mine when the pressure drops and call it a day.
I gave it a shot with ice a few times and honestly the difference is there but it’s pretty short lived. I think the water alone does a good enough job for sitting at a desk, so I just use it without ice now and don’t feel like I’m missing much.

I kinda noticed the same thing when I tried it on my car seats. Hard surfaces are way more satisfying because you see the dirt lift right off but fabric just soaks it up and you’re left wondering if it did anything. Let it dry for a bit and see if it looks any different.
I think it’s just Bluetooth. I don’t remember seeing anything about WiFi when I was looking into it.
I’d probably just grab it and see how it goes. Worst case it keeps the battery from draining as fast while you’re using it, which is still better than nothing.
I was wondering the same thing before I got mine, so I just plugged it in and tried it out for a day. It’s not dead silent, but the noise is more of a soft whir that blends into the background pretty fast for me. I wouldn’t call it distracting unless your office is totally silent and you’re listening for it.
I’m kind of tempted to just try it with a wool sweater and see what happens, honestly. Even if it’s not perfect, it might still be better than air drying in a cold room.
I’d just plug it in and not worry about it honestly. Even if the battery conks out a bit early, you’re probably asleep anyway. I think people overthink these things for a nightstand fan.
I think it’s just the nature of far-infrared heat, it’s not really supposed to blast you like a space heater or anything. I actually kind of prefer it subtle, lets me wear it longer without feeling like I’m cooking my neck.
I figure if it lasts even a year or two between battery swaps that’s still way better than babysitting a rechargeable thing. I’d probably just grab one and not overthink it.

I wouldn’t overthink the color thing too much. It’s basically a fancy microfiber cloth with some polish in it, so it’s going to do the same job regardless of whether your paint is dark or light.
I’d probably just get a second one for the bathroom if it’s not too pricey. Moving things back and forth always sounds easier in my head than it actually is in practice.

I used mine on a couple of glass beer mugs and it worked fine for me. No skipping or scratching, just took it slow and used the diamond tip. You definitely need a steady hand but it’s not as hard as people make it sound.
I’ve had a few nights where mine said I was in light sleep for hours when I know I was dead asleep. Not a dealbreaker for me since I mostly just want to see if I got roughly enough rest, but it does make you wonder how much of the other data is off too.
I mean, I kinda disagree with the “peace of mind” take. I stuck one on my router and honestly felt like my head was less fuzzy after a few days, but maybe that’s just placebo. Either way, I’m not taking it off.
