Been thinking about picking up a MixMate for my morning protein shakes, but I’m wondering if it actually mixes them well or if they still end up a bit clumpy. I know it’s not a blender, but I don’t want to be shaking it myself every time. Anyone tried it with something thicker than coffee?

Mine handles them fine, but I don’t know why anyone expects a mug to do what a blender does. If you’re dumping in thick powder and expecting a smoothie texture, you’ll be disappointed. For a basic protein shake that just needs to not be lumpy, it does the job. Just don’t let it sit before you hit the button or you’re back to shaking it yourself.

Mine does okay with thicker shakes, but I wouldn’t call it smooth. You still get the occasional small lump if you dump all the powder in at once. I just pour liquid in first and it cuts down on that a lot. Good enough for mornings, but it’s definitely not a blender.

I’d just add the liquid first and stir the powder in gradually, that works for me.

It works okay for protein shakes, but I’d keep expectations in check. It’s not going to turn a thick sludge into something perfectly silky, but it does a decent job for the convenience. The real selling point for me is not having to shake the mug around at 6am.

Thicker shakes are no problem, it keeps everything moving without clumps.

I’d say it depends on how thick you like your shake. Mine keeps things moving well enough that I don’t get big chunks, but it’s not like using an actual blender. If you’re okay with a few tiny bits here and there, it’s totally fine for everyday use. I wouldn’t expect perfection from a mug, though.

I use mine mainly for thinner stuff, but I did try a thicker shake once and it was fine. Not perfect, but way better than shaking it by hand. I think the key is not loading it up too full.

I tried mine with a thicker shake once and it did the job, but the texture was still a bit off compared to what I’d get from an actual blender. It’s fine if you’re okay with a few tiny bits now and then. For the price and convenience, I’ll take that over hand-shaking any day, but I wouldn’t call it a smoothie maker.

I’ve used mine with heavier shakes and it gets the job done. No lumps floating around, but it’s not going to make it super smooth either. Good enough for me since I’m usually drinking it on the way to work anyway.

Mine handles a thicker shake fine, no clumps, though I would not call it a blender.

I got mine mostly for travel coffee but ended up using it for shakes more than I expected. The trick is not to fill it all the way to the top, leaves a little room for the stirring to actually move things around. Mine comes out smooth enough that I stopped shaking it by hand.

Still going to be some lumps if you use a really thick shake. It spins the drink around but it does not break things down like a blender would. Fine for a quick mix if you are not picky, but do not expect a smooth result.

I had the same worry when I got mine, but it actually keeps up with my thicker shakes pretty well. The powder gets mixed in without me having to stop and shake it, which is the main thing I wanted. It won’t turn it into a super smoothie texture, but for a quick morning shake I have no complaints.

It mixes them well enough for a quick shake, but I still give mine a swirl before drinking.

If you’re using a really thick shake, like with frozen fruit or a lot of peanut butter, I’d keep your expectations low. It’s not going to pulverize stuff the way a blender does. Mine handles the standard powder and milk or water mix okay, but anything past that consistency and I end up giving it a few shakes myself anyway. It’s fine for convenience, but it’s not a magic bullet.

Good to know, sounds like it’ll do the job for my morning shakes.
