Mike in TXMemberBeen using the Melara Air for a few weeks now. I’m mostly a stomach sleeper and it feels like the pillow lifts my head a bit more than I’d like. Anyone else in the same boat, or am I just not used to it yet?

MemberTook me about a month before my neck stopped feeling like it was angled up.

HanSoloParticipantI’m a stomach sleeper too and had the same reaction at first. That lift felt more noticeable than any pillow I’ve used before. But after about three weeks I stopped noticing it. My neck stopped feeling like it was propped up and now it just feels normal.
I don’t know if the foam softened up or if I just got used to the angle, but it did settle in. I still wouldn’t call it a perfect stomach sleeper pillow, but it’s not as bad as those first few nights made me think. If you’re only a few weeks in, I’d give it a bit more time before deciding. The shape is pretty fixed so if it still bugs you after a month it probably won’t change much.

MemberI actually think it sits a little low if anything. I’m a stomach sleeper too and I’ve had the opposite experience where I barely notice it under my head, which is exactly what I wanted. Sounds like we just have different neck angles or something.

Tom W98MemberGive it more than a few weeks or move on. These ergonomic pillows are picky about sleeping position.

MemberI had the same impression when I first tried it, but for me the height actually evened out once I stopped trying to force my usual sleeping position and just let the pillow do its thing. I’m not saying it will work for you, but I found that the first couple of weeks were more about my neck adjusting than the pillow being wrong. It just feels more noticeable because you’re not used to having that much support under your head.

MemberIf you’re a strict stomach sleeper, this might not be the pillow for you. I tried it and the fixed height just doesn’t give you much wiggle room to find a comfortable flat position. It’s a good pillow, but it seems more forgiving for back or side sleepers in my opinion.

MemberI rotated between the Melara Air and my old flat pillow for a couple nights and that helped me figure out the height difference. Eventually I just got used to it, but if it’s still bothering you after another week, it might not be worth forcing.

MemberI found it noticeable the first couple of nights, but I think a lot of it depends on how you angle yourself on the thing. I shift around a lot and ended up getting comfortable by sort of tucking my shoulder into the cutout more. It is what it is though, if it bugs you after a month it probably won’t change.

Nina WhiteMemberI tried it and switched back to a thinner pillow after a week.

MemberI slept on mine for about a month before I gave up on it. I’m also a stomach sleeper and the loft never really settled in for me. It wasn’t terrible, but I kept waking up with my neck at a weird angle, like the pillow was doing its own thing while I was trying to do mine.
I think the shape just doesn’t match how I move around. I don’t stay perfectly flat, I turn my head to the side, and the cutouts never lined up with where I actually needed them. My old cheap pillow is flatter and I don’t think about it at all.
The Melara is fine for my wife, she’s a side sleeper and it works for her. So it’s not a bad pillow, just not for me. I’d say if it still feels off after a few more nights, it probably won’t get better.

MemberI think it depends on how much you move around at night. I’m a stomach sleeper too and the first week was rough, but I noticed if I scootch down a bit so my shoulders sit in those cutouts, the height feels way more reasonable. Still not flat, but not as tall as it first felt.

Mike in TXMemberMine had a break-in period too. I’m a stomach sleeper and the first two weeks I was waking up with a sore neck. Somewhere around week three it just stopped bothering me. Maybe the foam softened up or I got used to it, but I stopped noticing the height. Still not my favorite pillow ever, but it’s usable now.
