When I first got mine, I was in the same boat. The panel is in the basement laundry room and I didn’t want to run an extension cord just for this thing, so I plugged it into the hallway upstairs. Honestly, for the first couple of weeks I figured it was a dud because I didn’t notice anything different.
But I left it alone. After maybe a month or so, I did feel like the lights in the kitchen weren’t flickering as much when the fridge kicked on. That could just be me paying more attention, though.
I happened to move it down to the laundry room last month when I was reorganizing, and I’m not sure it changed anything major. The place still runs the same as far as I can tell. So I guess my opinion shifted from “this is useless” to “this might be doing something small” and then back to “I have no idea if location matters.”
I figure the wiring in the walls connects everything anyway, so the distance shouldn’t be that big of a deal. I wouldn’t stress about getting it right next to the box. Put it somewhere you won’t trip over it and forget about it for a while. That’s what I did.
I feel like nobody really knows the answer to this, which kind of makes sense. I have a feeling the ice does less work, but the fan part still does enough that I wouldn’t stop using it. Maybe it just depends on how much you hate the sticky feeling. I sort of gave up trying to figure it out.
If you’re fine with the spray routine, probably not worth switching. The pouch is more of a set it and forget it thing, which works for me since I’m lazy about reapplying. Smell seems pretty similar to the peppermint stuff, just less in your face right after you put it out.
I’d actually lean the other way on this. My place has older wiring too and I honestly didn’t notice much after plugging it in for a while. Maybe my setup is just too far gone for it to help much, but it didn’t really do anything obvious for me.
I’ve been using one clipped to my backpack for a few months now and honestly haven’t had any issues with it snagging. I just make sure it’s on a tight loop rather than dangling loose. It’s worked fine for me so far, so I wouldn’t worry too much.
I wouldn’t worry too much about it. I can change settings from a good ten feet away without any trouble, even with the unit kind of tucked to the side. It’s not like you have to wave the remote right at it or anything.
Huh, I don’t think it’s that picky. I’ve definitely set mine for 3 hours before and it clicked off right on time. Works fine for me.
Appreciate all the input, think I’ve got enough to go on now. Probably just gonna grab one and see how it goes, seems like it’ll do what I need.
I’d say it’s probably doing something, but not for the reason most people think. I noticed a similar thing with a dimmer switch in my living room that used to buzz a little, and after plugging one of these in, it just stopped. Could be the surge filtering cleaning up whatever noise was going on. Either way, if the lights look better to you, that’s all that really matters.
Single stage paint is usually more porous so it can absorb these kind of products differently than clear coat. I’d just do a tiny test spot on a fender or something before going over the whole car.
I’ve got both in my wallet too and it’s been fine. The Guardality card does its thing on its own, so the passport cover is just extra at that point. Not like it hurts anything though.
Mine’s been on for a few weeks with old pipes and no issues. Water feels nice, pressure’s still good, haven’t noticed any gunk yet but it’s probably catching something. I’d say it’s fine.
It’s thin enough that you’ll probably be fine. I’ve got mine in a pretty snug holder and it didn’t really change the feel much. If it’s already borderline uncomfortable then maybe not, but otherwise I’d say go for it.
I think it’s sort of a mixed bag. On really humid days I don’t notice much difference with the water on, so I just run it as a fan and it’s fine. The airflow alone helps me feel less stuffy even if the room is still sticky.
