MemberI’ve been using the BareEarth Grounding Mat for a few weeks now, mostly under my desk while I work. I can’t say I notice a huge difference in stress levels, but it does feel nice to have something soft under my feet. Maybe the relaxation comes more from taking a break to sit still than from the grounding itself? Anyone else feel the same or notice something different?

Lisa HydrowMemberI think there is something to the idea that just giving yourself a few minutes with your shoes off and your feet on something soft is relaxing, no matter what it’s made of. I’ve had mine for a couple of months though and I do sleep a little better on the nights I use it before bed, but that could also just be my routine changing. Hard to separate the two, honestly.

MemberThe placebo effect is real, but so is the physical comfort of having a nice mat under your feet. I mostly got mine for the texture, honestly. I think if I expected it to fix my anxiety I would’ve been disappointed, but as a little comfort zone at my desk, it does its job.

MemberI tried one for a couple months and honestly could never tell if it was doing anything beyond the physical comfort. The stress relief part felt more like a mindset thing, like I was expecting to relax so I did a bit. Never had it make a noticeable difference on a rough day though.

PixelKevinMemberThe break itself probably does more than the mat ever will, honestly.

techguy22ParticipantI’m not convinced people are giving the grounding itself enough credit just because the mat also happens to feel nice. I’ve seen enough discussions about earthing affecting cortisol levels that I don’t think it’s purely a comfy feet thing. The break probably helps too, but that doesn’t mean the mat is doing nothing.

MemberI think the calm place thing is doing more of the heavy lifting than people want to admit, but that doesn’t mean the mat is useless either. For me, having one under my desk changed my posture more than my stress. I stopped crossing my legs or perching on the edge of my chair because the mat gave my feet a reason to stay flat on the floor. That alone made my back feel better by the end of the day, which probably helped me feel less tense overall.
I never noticed any big mental shift while using it. No sudden wave of calm or better focus. What I did notice was that I was more aware of where my body was and how I was sitting. That little bit of mindfulness during a workday can add up.
The grounding part might be doing something, I won’t rule it out, but I think it’s too subtle to notice in a few weeks. Stress is usually built up over months or years, so expecting a mat to undo that in a month seems optimistic. Even if it works, it probably works slowly enough that you can’t point to the exact day it kicked in.
I still use mine mostly because it feels nice and keeps my feet from getting cold on the floor. If the relaxation comes along with it, great. If not, I didn’t lose much.

MemberI’ve had mine for a while and I do think the grounding does something for me, but it’s not about stress during the day. For me it’s been more about sleep. I notice a clear difference in how quickly I wind down at night if I’ve spent time with it earlier. The comfort factor is nice, but I don’t think that alone would do it for me.

d4nielParticipantI think people are too quick to write it off as just a soft mat. I didn’t expect much when I got mine, but after a few weeks I noticed I wasn’t tensing my shoulders as much by the end of the workday. That alone was worth it to me, regardless of the mechanism behind it.

EliMemberI think people expect too much from a mat that’s basically doing nothing while you sit there.

Jenna LeeMemberI kind of look at mine as a signal to my body that it’s time to chill, if that makes sense. Like putting on slippers or getting into comfy clothes. Whether it’s the electricity or just the routine of it, I’ll take the excuse to feel a little more settled at my desk.

MemberFor me it’s less about stress and more about how much better my legs feel at the end of the day.

MemberI actually find mine helps more than I expected, but not in a dramatic way. The first week I didn’t notice anything, then around week three I realized I was sleeping a bit deeper and waking up less restless. Could be coincidence, but I’ve kept using it daily for almost two months now and I’m not about to stop.

MemberI got mine more for sleep than work stress, but honestly it didn’t do much for me either way.
