Mine sat on a shelf for a while and it worked, but I eventually moved it up higher because the airflow sort of shot across the room instead of where I was sitting. Stability was never the issue though, that thing is pretty solid.
My mom actually likes hers better for her toenails than her fingernails. She says the shape makes it easier to reach down there without bending her wrists as much. For her hands she still prefers the regular clippers though.
I wouldn’t buy it for the heat part. It gets warm on the top setting but it’s more “notice it’s there” than actual heat therapy. The EMS pulse is what does the work for my shoulders.
I put one on my parents’ 14 lb shih tzu mix for about three weeks while they were traveling, so I got a decent feel for it on a smaller neck. The width of the band itself wasn’t really the problem, it’s how the whole thing balances once that tracker sits up top. On a small dog the weight pulls the collar forward, so mine kept drifting toward the front of his neck even when I thought I had it snug enough. Not sliding all over the place, but definitely not staying centered either. He didn’t seem bothered by it though, no scratching or trying to paw it off, so comfort wise it was fine. Just depends if you care about it sitting perfectly straight, because on a small dog it probably won’t.
That hasn’t really been my experience. I ride a lot near the coast where the sun is brutal, and the shadow recovery on mine is actually decent. Maybe it’s more about the angle you’re shooting at than the camera itself.
I skipped it at first and just liked seeing who showed up, then started googling pics like a dork. Ended up subscribing after a month mostly for the log it keeps. Not life changing but I like scrolling back through the week.
I’d give it a few more nights before messing with the jaw setting. Mine felt weird for the first week and a half, then settled in once I stopped thinking about it. If it still feels off after that, then start turning it slowly.
I think the scale is just reading it at a different moment than your watch does. Mine gives me a slightly higher number if I step on right after waking up versus later in the day. It’s more of a rough snapshot than a constant monitor, so I wouldnt stress over the small difference.
I actually had mine come loose once because the port is in a spot where my foot brushes against it getting in and out. After that I just made sure it was pushed in snug and it’s been fine. I don’t think the angle matters at all, but if yours is somewhere it can get bumped, that might be more of an issue than how it’s positioned.
I have one and I actually ran it once with the curtains wide open just to see if it made a difference. I couldn’t tell any real change in how the room smelled or felt afterward compared to when I run it at night. The UV bulb is still putting out the same light either way, so I don’t think ambient daylight is going to block it.
That said, I did notice that with the sun coming in I kept second-guessing whether the lamp was actually on. The blue glow gets washed out pretty easily. So now I just close the blinds mostly out of habit so I can see it working from the doorway before I leave the room. Not because I think it matters for sanitizing, just because it helps me confirm the timer is running and I can relax about it.
I’d probably just move the bowl to another spot when the dog is eating and leave the trap running in the kitchen otherwise. The zap sound is pretty quick and not loud, but dogs are weird about stuff like that. My cat used to stare at the light but never actually got close enough to touch it.
The placebo effect is real, but so is the physical comfort of having a nice mat under your feet. I mostly got mine for the texture, honestly. I think if I expected it to fix my anxiety I would’ve been disappointed, but as a little comfort zone at my desk, it does its job.
I’d push back a little on the idea that it needs direct sun all day. Mine’s mounted on a porch that gets maybe two hours of actual sunlight and it still catches enough to keep the camera going through the day. The battery drains faster on cloudy stretches, sure, but I rarely touch the USB cable. If your spot is truly dark all day, that’s different, but “shaded” doesn’t automatically mean dead.
I found the same thing, the further away it goes the less you feel it. But I also noticed it depends on which way I’m facing. If I’m staring at my monitor it hits my face fine, but if I turn to the side for a bit I forget it’s even on. I just moved mine closer and stopped overthinking it.
Mine gets warm too, but it goes away once I take it off. I mostly wear it on shorter outings so it never really has time to bother me. Seems like a fair trade for the support it gives.
I’ve run mine on grates that were still pretty warm, not scorching hot but definitely right after pulling food off. It handled it fine and the grease did come off easier. I just made sure to keep the brush moving so I wasn’t sitting in one spot too long. I wouldn’t try it on a raging hot grill though, that seems like it’d be rough on the bristles.
Mine actually seemed to get more grabby after a few weeks, weirdly enough. Maybe I just got used to how it feels, or maybe the surface needed some breaking in. I mostly use it on my kids though, so it never gets heavy use.
For me the delay is pretty much the same as my old camera, maybe slightly better. I checked on my dog from a friend’s place and there was still a noticeable pause when I moved the phone around. It doesn’t bug me for just glancing at the feed, but I wouldn’t rely on it for anything that needs a real-time reaction.
The auto shutoff is the main reason I wouldnt go back to a dumb timer, but I mostly like that I can run it from another room while the house is empty.
I actually got one for a fishing trip last month and used it inside my tent mainly because the mosquitos were brutal. The light is not super strong but honestly in a dark tent it doesn’t need to be. You can see it glowing clearly and it definitely grabbed attention. I will say I noticed it worked way better when I put it near the tent door rather than in the corner. Not sure why, maybe airflow or something. Also it ran out of battery faster than I expected on the higher setting, so I’d charge it fully before heading out. I didn’t have any issues with it being too dim though. If you’re in a small tent you should be fine.
It’s fine on oven glass, I’ve used mine on the door and the sides without a problem. Just don’t hold it in one spot too long or you’ll end up wiping streaks anyway. I think people worry about it more than they need to.
I’ve had the opposite experience actually. Mine seems to do worse in moderately noisy places like a half-empty cafe than in full chaos. When it’s really loud, I naturally speak slower and clearer, and it picks that up fine. But that middle ground where I’m trying to talk at a normal volume over background chatter? That’s when it fumbles for me.
