My dad had trouble with regular clippers after his stroke, and the electric one was easier since he didn’t have to squeeze anything. It’s slower than clipping but gets the job done on normal nails. For your mom’s situation it might be worth a shot.
I don’t think pitch black is necessary at all. Mine sits near a window with light coming through and it still catches stuff. The UV is just meant to stand out against whatever else is around, not be the only thing in the room. I’d say go ahead and use it.
I’d just keep the app closed and use the tap and talk thing for quick stuff. For anything longer I still pull out my phone, but that’s fine with me. Not really looking for it to replace full conversations anyway.
Mine does the same thing and I just leave it. I tried messing with the exposure once and then everything looked washed out, so I put it back. It’s a tiny camera, there’s only so much it can do with a bright sky and dark shade at the same time.
I get why they split it, but for me the subscription is the part I’d actually skip. I don’t need a name popping up on the screen every time something lands on the feeder. Half the fun is grabbing a coffee and trying to figure out what it is myself, then flipping through a guide later. If it were included, sure, I’d use it. Paying monthly just to have an app tell me a house finch is a house finch doesn’t do much for me.
Without it you still get the camera, alerts, and clips, which is honestly the main draw. The ID is a nice-to-have, not the reason I’d buy the thing. Some people probably love having everything auto-labeled, and that’s fine, but I’d rather keep it simple and not add another subscription to the pile. If you’re on the fence, I’d try it without first. You can always add it later if you find yourself really missing it.
The audio quality thing is one of those worries I get, but honestly, I think it gets more credit than it deserves. I’ve been driving around with mine for a few months now, and I can’t tell the difference between the cable and the wireless connection when I’m just listening to playlists or podcasts. If you were sitting there doing a side-by-side A/B test with your eyes closed, maybe you’d spot something, but in a moving car with road noise? Not a chance.

I get the concern about lag since a delayed alert is basically useless. In my case the notification comes through quick enough that I can spot him heading for the gap before he’s fully out. Probably depends on your phone signal more than anything else.
I get what you mean about the readings not lining up with how you actually feel. I had a day last week where I was completely stressed out over a work thing and my ring showed me as totally chill the whole time. Then Sunday I was just relaxing around the house and it kept telling me I was in a tense state. I stopped paying much attention to it after that.
I just mark the date on the calendar when I install a fresh cartridge and then forget about it until my skin starts feeling drier than usual. That’s my cue. Probably not the most precise method but it works well enough for me.
I think the whole window thing gets way too much weight honestly. My place is a basement unit and I have my WaveMax sitting on a bookshelf that is definitely not near any window. The shelf is basically in the center of the room with walls on three sides of it. I still get all the local networks without any real issues. CBS comes in a little weaker than the others but it’s watchable.
People act like these things need a perfect line of sight or something. That’s not how it worked for me at all. I just plugged it in, ran the channel scan, and it found what it found. Took maybe five minutes total. I moved it around a bit to see if it mattered and honestly the difference was pretty small. If you’re in an apartment complex with a lot of concrete around you that might be a different story, but just being away from a window shouldn’t stop you from trying it.

That said, I don’t think the money difference is huge for everyone. If you’re the type who only uses it in one room and never changes things up, a dumb timer gets you 90% there. The convenience is real but it’s not night and day. It’s more about whether you value not having to think about it.

I treat it as a two-step thing honestly. Paint transfer comes off no problem, scratches get reduced to the point where I only notice them when I’m actually looking for them. I’ve stopped expecting it to make anything disappear completely, that’s not really what these products do.
I think it depends on how often you actually use the passport holder. If it stays zipped in your bag the whole trip, the Guardality is just extra weight. But if you’re like me and pull the passport out at check-in or whatever, the card in your wallet covers you for the rest of your stuff when you’re not thinking about it.
I never used it on ours that young, so I can’t tell you from experience there. But I’ve seen plenty of people start way earlier than two weeks in and it never seemed to set anything back. Puppies bounce back from weird noises way faster than we give them credit for. I’d say if it’s actually working, you’re probably fine.
