I used SavingStars on my bathroom sink because it was draining slowly and I could see some hair near the pop-up. The foam did its thing and the water seems to go down a bit faster now. But I’m not sure if it actually got rid of the hair or just pushed it further down. Anyone else try it for hair clogs specifically?

I’ve used it a couple times on a slow shower drain and it did seem to break the hair down rather than just shove it along, the water ran clear after. Honestly I’d rather use this stuff than snake a drain myself, that’s just a personal thing. Maybe run it once more if it’s still a little slow.

Probably just broke it down enough to get flow back.

I tried it on my bathroom sink once and it worked the first time, but the second time it barely did anything. Might depend on how much hair is in there. I ended up just pulling the pop-up out to check.

Didn’t work for me, just made the sink smell worse.

I have to disagree with the idea that it breaks the hair down. I used SavingStars on my bathroom sink a few months ago when the pop-up was catching a ton of hair and the water was pooling. The foam did its thing and the drain cleared up for about a week, then it started draining slow again, which made me think it just shoved everything further into the pipe instead of actually dissolving it.

I pulled the stopper out a few days later to clean it and there was still a big wad of hair hanging right below the drain, just sitting there. So in my case it did not break anything down, it just moved the clog out of sight for a bit. I ended up grabbing one of those little plastic drain snakes and pulled out a nasty clump that the powder clearly never touched.

The sink has been fine since then, so the powder wasn’t useless, it just didn’t do what I expected for hair. If you can see hair near the pop-up, I would just pull the stopper and grab it manually first. That worked way better for me than hoping the foam would eat through it.

I only used it once on a sink that was draining slow, and the water went down fine after, but a couple months later the same sink backed up again, so whatever it did wasn’t permanent for me. If there’s visible hair around the pop-up, I’d just pull that out by hand first. The powder seems better at keeping a drain clear than fixing one that’s already got a real hair ball in it.

Mine cleared the sink but left the pop-up full of hair sludge I had to pull out myself. The foam only gets what’s down the pipe, not the stuff sitting right there.

Hard to say if it actually removed the hair or just moved it. I used it on a tub drain with a hair clog and got a few months out of it before it slowed down again.

I’d just keep an eye on it for a week or two and see if it starts draining slow again. If it does, that hair is probably still sitting in there somewhere. I’ve had decent luck with powders like this when the clog is fresh, but once it’s been building up for months, I usually end up yanking the stopper out anyway.

Mine cleared it and stayed clear for months.

My take is that if it only pushed the hair down the pipe, it’ll be back to draining slow before long. That’s usually what happens when the clog doesn’t fully break down. So I’d say just watch how it drains over the next week or so.

Mine actually stayed clear way longer than I expected, like close to three months. The hair near the pop-up I just pulled out by hand first though. I don’t think the foam touches what’s sitting right there.

Doubt it actually dissolves much hair. Mine drained better for a few days then went right back to slow, so it just loosened things enough to pass. If you can still see hair at the pop-up, pull that out by hand first.

Hair clogs are funny because the stuff near the pop-up is usually only half of it. I’ve had better luck pulling that top bit out first, then letting the foam handle whatever’s further in. If it drains fine for a couple weeks, I’d call that a win.

I don’t buy that it dissolves hair. I’ve used it twice on a bathroom sink and both times the water ran better for about a week, then went right back to slow. Same thing you’re describing. It loosens the gunk enough to move it along but that hair doesn’t disappear, it just ends up sitting further down the pipe until it builds up again. Second time around I pulled the pop-up and fished out what I could reach first, and honestly that did more than the powder did. The stuff near the top isn’t even the real problem anyway, it’s whatever is deeper in there. So if it’s draining fine now, fine, but I wouldn’t count on it staying that way. Mine didn’t.

Hair usually just loosens and moves along.

I went through a similar thing with my tub drain a while back. Slow draining, could see the hair clump right at the strainer. I dumped some powder in, let it foam, and the water definitely moved better after. But here’s the thing that made me realize what was actually going on. A couple weeks later I had to pull the stopper out for a different reason and there was still a good chunk of hair wrapped around the assembly. So the foam had cleaned off enough gunk to let water pass, but the hair itself was still sitting there. It wasn’t dissolved at all. That told me the product is probably better at clearing soap scum and grease than actual hair. If your drain is running fine now, that’s what matters I guess. I just wouldn’t count on the hair being gone for good.

Mine cleared it for maybe two weeks, then slowed again.

Hair near the pop-up is the easy part. The real clog is always deeper in the trap, so of course the water runs better for a bit. I pulled the stopper and fished out what I could with a wire hanger before using anything. That did more than the powder ever would.

I haven’t tried it on a sink yet, but I used it on a shower drain with a lot of hair and it worked pretty well for me. The water drained way better after one treatment, and it stayed that way for a while. I did notice some hair came up when I flushed it, so it’s not just pushing everything down.

The foam might just be pushing the loosened hair further along rather than dissolving it. I had a similar issue with a sink and ended up pulling the pop-up to check. Found a good chunk of hair wrapped around the stopper that the powder never touched.

Mine went back to slow draining after a few days anyway.
