Tried one in a small bedroom without the hose. Honestly it felt more like a strong fan than a real AC, didn’t noticeably drop the room temp. For the price it was worth keeping for white noise and spot cooling, but don’t expect it to replace a window unit.

I replaced my old scaler with the DappSmile; it’s nicer for quick touch-ups but I’m not convinced it’s a full replacement for professional cleanings.

First time I hung mine I fussed with getting the top perfectly level and that alone made the picture look a lot cleaner. I used a couple of hooks across the top and just let the bottom hang, setup was quick and not a big deal even though the fold lines were still there.

I’m a bit skeptical it replaces a proper washer; it’s mostly about convenience. Mine makes quick rinses and regular tidy-ups much easier, though baked-on grime still needed scrubbing or a stronger machine. If you want something you’ll actually use often, it’s fine.

Thinking about buying the Derila Ergo but I sleep hot and sometimes lie on my stomach. Does it trap heat or end up too high/soft for stomach sleeping after a few months?

Thanks, sounds like most people didn’t notice a difference. I think I’ll wait for someone with actual meter numbers before buying.

Got one last year. Battery lasted about 40 to 50 minutes so I could do my hatchback and a couple bikes, but it won’t blast off baked-on wheel-well mud without pre-soaking or a bit of scrubbing. Filling from a bucket is a faff but doable for quick weekend jobs.

Used it on shallow scratches and they stayed much less visible after a month. Deeper ones still show at angles, so feels more like hiding than actually removing.

Maybe they got a dud — mine wasn’t top‑heavy and felt stable, but I do think the fan is louder than advertised and maybe not worth switching from a decent ceramic heater.

Nice — glad it worked for you. Quick question: what setting did you run it on to get that all-day battery? One tip from my experience — put it near a window or have a small exhaust/fan so the humid air can leave, and clean the pads regularly or they can start to smell.

in reply to: Anyone tried a UV sanitizing lamp for their desk? #61

I’m skeptical they do much in a normal setup — UV‑C works, but you need the right dose and direct line‑of‑sight, and most little desk lamps don’t put out enough to be reliably effective unless you hold them very close for a long time. They’re definitely a safety risk for eyes/skin, so don’t run one while you’re sitting at the desk and look for models with timers/motion cutoff. Ozone is only an issue with lamps that emit around 185 nm (some cheap bulbs), whereas most UV‑C LEDs (~270–280 nm) don’t make ozone, and yes, longterm UV‑C will degrade plastics and coatings. If you just want less surface gunk, a quick wipe with alcohol or a small phone UV box is often more practical than a desk lamp.
