I work from home and my apartment has a couple weird dead spots where video calls stutter. Seeing lots of mesh WiFi stuff and honestly not convinced if it’s real or just hype. I already moved the router and fiddled with channels so not planning more tinkering. Do mesh systems actually fix dead spots in normal homes or is it mostly marketing?

Random memory: a friend installed a mesh kit and the spot by their big bookshelf stopped cutting out, the extra node in the hall just seemed to reach around the wall and calls stopped stuttering. Not totally sure if it’s magic or just better placement, but it looked like it helped.

Mesh can actually help with dead spots, it’s not all hype. My habit is to glance at the Wi-Fi bars on my phone before a big call and plug in an Ethernet cable if they look shaky. Low effort and usually does the trick.

Yeah, mesh can actually help in apartments. Try one extra node placed near the dead spot and see if that fixes it.

For a couple tiny dead spots, a cheap extender or one extra access point will probably sort it out without a full mesh setup. Mesh is nicer to manage, but not always necessary.

Not wanting to do more fiddling makes sense, and a mesh is usually pretty plug-and-play so it shouldn’t turn into a project. I’m a bit skeptical of the hype, but in my case dropping an extra unit near the weak spot fixed call stutter with almost zero effort.
