Mine mostly sits in a drawer unless I’m traveling. For actual client calls I just find it easier to use the phone on speaker and let the app handle it, the earbuds feel like extra steps.
I do a ton of stop and go on my way home, like 40 minutes of basically crawling, and mine still seems to do something. Hard to prove on a single tank but my average mpg number on the dash has stayed a bit higher than before I plugged it in, even on weeks where traffic is bad. The bigger thing I noticed is the throttle feels less jumpy when I’m creeping forward and braking constantly. Not a huge change but it’s there. I think the learning part just adjusts to whatever you normally do, so if most of your driving is traffic, that’s what it picks up on. It’s not like it needs highway runs to figure you out. Whether it saves much fuel in that specific situation I couldn’t tell you, but it hasn’t felt like it gave up in traffic.
I’ve had decent luck with mine reaching from the next room over, but it really depends on what’s between the remote and the unit. In my place, it works fine if I’m just outside the bedroom door or in the little hallway area. The signal seems to carry through a normal interior wall okay, enough that I can tap the temp down a notch before I walk back in. Once I go around the corner into the kitchen, though, it gets spotty. Not totally dead, but I have to aim the remote back toward the bedroom and sometimes step a little closer.
The everyday reason I notice this is because I usually leave the CoolCove running while I’m getting ready in the morning. I’ll be in the bathroom or poking around the living room and want to bump the fan down or switch modes without walking all the way back. It works maybe half the time from those farther spots. From the hallway right outside the room, it’s pretty reliable. I don’t think walls are the whole issue, more like distance plus whatever else is in the way.
So for just adjusting it from the hall or an adjacent room, I’d say it’s worth trying. You’ll probably get some range through a wall, just not a ton if you’re farther out or behind a corner.
Mine has been in the living room TV for about six months now and it just stays there. I never unplug it, even when we’re not watching anything. The thing barely gets warm, and that’s only if I actually touch it right after using it for a while. I really don’t think it’s something to lose sleep over.
Honestly, I feel like people overthink this stuff. These little sticks are designed to just sit there. It’s not like it’s a laptop that needs to breathe or something. As long as it’s not getting hot enough to feel uncomfortable when you touch it, it’s fine. I’d be more worried about the TV’s USB port giving out than the Flixy itself. Mine has been rock solid, so I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s just one of those things where it either works or it doesn’t, and mine works.
It works fine on ash, but I don’t push my luck with a full canister. I just give it a quick empty and tap the filter outside before I put it away. It’s not a huge hassle, just part of the routine.
Good to see most people had the same experience. I’ll probably keep using it on the glass when the oven needs a quick clean.
I think the door vs shelf thing gets overblown. Mine has been sitting in the door holder for a couple months now and the fridge still smells fine. It’s a tiny fridge anyway so the air moves around plenty wherever it sits.
I just treat the notification as a heads up rather than something to catch live. Half the time I’m not looking at my phone when a bird lands anyway, so I’ll check the recording later. The delay doesn’t bother me since the footage usually captures the visit.
I’ve had mine for a few months now and my office garage is basically a dead zone for cellular. Calls drop the second I pull in, texts take forever to send, all that. But the adapter has never cared. It connects before I even back out of the parking spot, every single time.
The key thing I noticed is that the phone and the adapter are doing their own handshake through Bluetooth and the Wi-Fi they create between themselves. My phone doesn’t need to reach a tower for that to happen. It’s like the adapter is just a little router sitting in my car. I’ve also parked in a concrete structure downtown for a concert and it was the same story, connected fine.
The only time I’ve seen it act weird is when my phone’s Wi-Fi got turned off by accident. That’s when it wouldn’t connect. Cellular was fine that day, so it kind of proved to me that the phone signal is irrelevant. It’s all about those two radios talking to each other.
So I wouldn’t sweat the garage situation. If your phone’s Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are on, it should link up. The lack of bars isn’t going to stop it.
The port version thing barely crossed my mind when I got mine. I have a 2010 myself, but I remember helping a friend with his older car. I think it was a 2006 or something like that. We plugged one of these in just to see if it would do anything, and it recognized the car right away. No drama, no adapter needed.
The only thing I’d say is that the data reading part is one thing, but the learning part takes a while. I’m not sure if the older ports send the same amount of info to the device. Like, maybe the newer cars give it more to work with? I don’t know the technical side of it.
I just remember that for the first couple of days, I didn’t notice anything at all. Then after a week or so of normal driving, the shifts felt a bit smoother. Could’ve been in my head, but the fuel needle seemed to move slower on my usual commute. I never really dug into whether the port version matters for that.
If yours is a 2008, I’d guess you’re fine. It’s not like your car is from the 80s or something. Plug it in and see what happens. Worst case, it just doesn’t do much and you take it out.
We’ve got a 23kg lab mix and the collar fits him without much fuss. The strap has enough holes to get a snug fit, not too tight, not sliding around. My only small gripe is the receiver unit sits a bit proud of his neck, so it can look a little bulky under his fur, but he doesn’t seem to notice it during the day.
I was more worried about the contact points digging in, but they haven’t been an issue so far. We leave it on him for a few hours at a time, mostly for off-leash work, and he’s never tried to scratch at it or shake it off.
For a 20kg border collie, I’d guess you’ll be fine. If anything, the strap might have a little extra length left over, but that’s better than it being too short. I wouldn’t overthink it.
I have one and save states have been fine for me. I just use it for quick sessions and it saves and loads without any drama.
I gave the live preview a shot just to see if it would actually connect, and it did. Worked fine for checking what the camera was pointed at. Not something I’d use all the time, but it’s there if you need it.
I’d say it lives up to the claim. I plug mine in and within a couple minutes I can feel the warmth coming off it. Good enough for me.
I only used the concentrated stream for a couple spots with moss and it worked fine. Kept the wide setting for the rest. Didn’t seem to hurt anything.
I’d say it depends on how drafty the room actually is. If you’re sitting close to it, you’ll probably feel the warmth well enough.
I’m not sure if it’s the StopWatt or just a coincidence, but my garage light doesn’t flicker as much when the washer runs now. Could be anything, really.
I mean, for the price it’s not bad. The water feels a bit softer on my skin, but I still see spots on the shower door.
I just put mine on until it feels like it’s actually doing something, then back it off just a hair. You’ll know if it’s too tight after wearing it for an hour.
I just take mine when he starts looking like he’s growing a beard. Usually works out to every couple months or so.
