MemberI’m using the AiraBreeze in a bedroom with carpet. It seems to work fine but I’m wondering if I need something under it to catch condensation or spills. The tank hasn’t leaked so far. Just curious if anyone else puts a mat or tray under theirs.

Emma JarrisMemberI always keep a cheap plastic tray under mine just as a habit, not because it ever leaked. On carpet I like having that little barrier since it’s easy to slide around and I don’t want any damp spots forming. A thin cutting board or boot tray would do the same job.

MemberSkip the mat, carpet hides minor drips anyway.

Tom RayMemberI’ve had mine sitting directly on carpet for a few months now and never bothered with anything under it. The tank seal has held up fine and I haven’t noticed any moisture on the carpet. Condensation trays seem like overkill unless yours is actually leaking.

MemberI went the other direction and actually bought a little rubber mat for mine before it even arrived, mostly because I’d read somewhere that these things can sweat a bit in humid weather. Turned out to be kind of unnecessary for how I use it. Mine sits in a carpeted spare room now and the only moisture I’ve ever noticed was a tiny bit around the fill opening when I got clumsy topping it off, not from the unit itself.
What I didn’t expect was that the mat caused its own minor annoyance. The cooler kind of slid around on the smooth rubber whenever I bumped it, and dust and carpet fuzz collected along the edges of the mat constantly. So I ended up ditching it and just setting the thing directly on the carpet like you’re doing. That’s been my setup for a good while now with no issues.
I will say this though, if you ever move it around a lot while the tank is full, that’s probably when a spill becomes more likely. Mine mostly stays put, so it’s not really a concern for me. But if you’re the type to carry it room to room, having something underneath could save you a headache. Not a big deal either way though, and you’re clearly not having problems as is.

StanMemberI wouldn’t bother with a tray for condensation reasons. Mine’s been on carpet in a hotel room for a week and the carpet actually got a little damp underneath, but that’s just how these things run, not a leak. It dried out fine.

MemberI skipped the mat for the first week and the carpet underneath stayed dry, so I stopped thinking about it. Then I noticed a faint ring after a longer run, nothing dramatic but enough that I put a cheap tray under it now. Not saying yours will do that, just something I noticed after using it most evenings.

MemberA tray or mat under it doesn’t really do much for the carpet side of things. If the tank actually leaked, a thin mat is going to let water run right off the edge anyway, so it’s not like it’s saving you from a flood. I’ve had mine on the same bedroom carpet since spring and the only thing I’ve noticed is the carpet feels a touch cool and damp right around the base after a long run, which is just how these things are. Nothing has soaked through or left a mark. So personally I’d skip the mat and just keep an eye on how full you’re filling the tank before bed. Overfilling is the one thing that actually got me a little puddle once, and that was on me, not the unit.

Mike TurnerMemberCondensation isn’t the thing I’d worry about. Spills when you refill the tank are what actually gets carpet, and a mat only helps if it has a lip. A flat rubber mat just spreads the puddle around.

MemberMine sat on the floor with no mat for about a month and the carpet underneath got a slight musty smell after a while. Not soaked, just damp enough to notice. I’d probably put something under it if I used it on carpet again.

MemberI keep mine on a cheap plastic boot tray from the dollar store. Not for leaks really, more because refilling it over carpet is just asking for a spill. It was like two bucks so I don’t think about it.

Lisa HallMemberMine actually leaked once during a refill and soaked a patch of carpet. A mat wouldn’t have saved it anyway. I just refill in the bathroom now, no mat needed.

MemberA mat just hides the problem.

MemberSkip the mat. Mine just gets gross.

Oliver BrooksMemberI’d probably put something under it just to keep the carpet from getting that damp cardboard smell. Even if it hasn’t leaked, the tank sits there full of water for hours. I’ve seen that happen with other water based stuff and it’s annoying to deal with later.

pixelnomadParticipantA thin plastic mat is cheap insurance.

MemberI ran ours on carpet for a few months with nothing under it and the carpet stayed dry. If you’re worried, a silicone baking mat or a cheap tray works fine, but it’s not something you have to rush out and get. Just check the tank seal every so often.

MemberA tray under mine just collected dust and looked ugly, so I took it out. In my experience the AiraBreeze doesn’t drip on its own, it’s only refills that get messy. I’d skip it unless your carpet is really that precious.

MemberMine sits on a low-pile rug and I still slide a cheap plastic boot tray under it. Not for leaks really, just because the tank sweats a bit when the air is warm and I’d rather not find out the hard way. A mat is fine if you already have one, but I wouldn’t go buy anything special for it.

MemberThe whole condensation thing is overblown. I’ve never used anything under mine and the carpet has stayed dry. If the tank is sealed right, it’s not going to sweat through the bottom onto the floor.

MemberSkip the mat, carpet handles a little moisture fine.

MemberEnded up just leaving mine on the carpet with nothing under it. A couple weeks in and no wet spots, so I’m not bothering with a tray for now. Good to know I’m not the only one who went back and forth on it.
