The sun glare thing is real but it’s more of a comfort thing than a safety thing for me. I borrowed my husband’s pair on a road trip and my eyes felt way less tired by the end. Still, don’t expect them to work like actual sunglasses.
I’d be a little careful about thinking daytime doesn’t matter. In my case the bugs weren’t only showing up when I expected them. I used to assume it was a night thing too, but I started noticing activity in the kitchen during the afternoon as well, like when I was home on a random Tuesday. So the whole “only pests at night” idea didn’t really hold up for me. If you’re gonna unplug it, I’d at least keep an eye on whether you start seeing anything during the day that you didn’t before. That was my experience anyway. Not saying it’ll happen to you, but that assumption bit me a little.
I just counted from the day I plugged mine in, that seemed like the easiest way. The self test beeps and checks the alarm part, but I don’t think it really tells you if the gas sensor itself is wearing out. I replaced mine around the 5 year mark anyway since the sensors don’t last forever.
Mine took way longer than I expected the first time too, but not because of any 8 hour rule. I plugged it in and the light was still red after like two hours, which made me think something was wrong. Turns out it just charges slow when the battery is really low out of the box. After that first full charge it was normal though. The one thing I’d say is don’t leave it plugged in for days at a time. Overnight here and there is probably fine but I unplug mine once it’s done just to be safe. The manual for these things is always a bit useless honestly.
The drying step is the part I finally stopped guessing on. I do a small section at a time now, spray it, and then wait until it looks like a light haze instead of wet streaks. For me that was way closer to a minute than the three on the bottle. I tried a whole panel once and by the time I got to the back, the front was almost powdery and the cloth just dragged it around. The small section thing fixed that for me. The scuff I was working on was a light door ding kind of mark and it came off pretty quickly that way. If it still feels slick when I wipe it, I just leave that spot alone for a moment and come back to it. That seems to be the sweet spot for me.
I’ve had mine plugged into a hallway outlet since January and the plug stays basically room temp. I only really notice it if I’ve had it cranked for hours, and even then it’s mild. My preference is just to keep an eye on things the first week and go from there.
I use mine without it and the species ID is the only thing missing. You still get alerts and can watch live whenever. I just look up whatever shows up if I’m curious enough.
Mine fit okay on a similar small case, but I put it on the top part instead of the side where it curves. Been a few weeks and it hasnt moved. I keep mine in my bag though, not a pocket, so not sure if that makes a difference.
Honestly I was expecting it to just soften the smell a little bit but for my water it actually got rid of it almost completely after the first minute of running. That first burst still has a hint of pool water but once the water warms up I don’t smell it at all anymore.
For calls specifically I think they’re fine. I’ve taken a few while walking around my neighborhood and nobody complained about hearing cars or wind. One person did say I sounded a bit distant when a truck went by but that was it. Not perfect but way better than my old pair.
I keep seeing people complain about the nozzle or the runtime, but for what you’re describing I think it’s actually a decent fit. I grabbed one mainly to blow out my shed and the back patio before I start grilling. It definitely isn’t a replacement for a real yard blower, but inside a contained space it works fine. The trigger lets you start off gentle so you’re not just launching everything into the air at once. I found that if I kept it lower to the ground and worked from the back of the garage toward the door, it pushed the dust and pebbles out in one pass. It did kick up some fine dust at first, but that’s going to happen with any blower. I will say the battery dying after about fifteen minutes gets annoying if you’re being thorough, so I just do one section and then charge it while I move stuff around.
The quick setup was honestly the selling point for me. I usually steal a few minutes before work to fly around my backyard and I can get it out, connected, and back in the bag before my coffee gets cold. It’s not a project, it’s just a few clicks and you’re good.
Mine has gotten warm too but only when I forgot it was in Boost and left it way longer than I meant to. It went back to normal once I switched it to Everyday Mode and let it sit for a bit. I figure as long as it’s not actually hot to the touch it’s probably fine.
I think the mirror is actually one of the better surfaces for it. The steam loosens up toothpaste splatter and stuff like that way faster than spraying and scrubbing. You do have to wipe after, but that’s true for any cleaner. Mine gets the mirror done without the streaks I get from regular spray sometimes.
I actually had the opposite experience. I tried it on grates that were still pretty warm, like right after I pulled the food off and plated everything, and it did not go great for me. The brush head itself was fine, no damage or anything, but the grease seemed to smear around more than lift off. It was almost like the heat made it too liquid and it just spread instead of getting scraped up. I ended up having to go back over everything once it cooled down anyway. Now I just let the grill sit while we eat and then deal with it after. That works way better for me, but maybe my grates just get hotter than yours or something.
The auto shutoff was the main reason I switched, but not because I was worried about forgetting it. I used to run my old timer setup in the guest room before my mom would visit, and I got into this habit of setting it before I left for work. That was fine, but the problem was I could never remember if I actually set it or not. I’d be halfway to the office and second-guess myself, wondering if I left the UV light on in there all day.
With the ClairLite I just hit the remote from the doorway and it does its thing and turns off on its own. The peace of mind is worth something, I guess, because I don’t think about it anymore. I also like that I can run it in the living room while I’m in the kitchen making coffee, since I don’t have to go back in there to shut it off. My old plug-in timer had to be reset every single time, which sounds small, but it was just one more thing to remember.
I don’t know if the extra money is worth it for everyone, but for me it stopped me from constantly wondering if I left a UV lamp running in an empty room. That alone sold me on it.
I’ve had mine up for a couple weeks now and it’s still holding. The trick for me was just making sure the wall was dry before pressing the hooks on, then I left it for a few hours before hanging the cooler. So far so good, and it feels light enough that I’m not too worried about it.
The adhesive on mine has held up fine so far, and I’ve got it on a device that runs way warmer than a TV would. I’d be more worried about it getting knocked off when you’re dusting or messing with cables behind the TV than the heat doing anything.
I wouldn’t worry too much about it unless the card actually stops working or falls out. These budget night vision units tend to have a bit of give in the slot. As long as it clicks in and reads your files fine, it’s probably okay.
I wouldn’t overthink the cost honestly. It’s not like you’re buying a whole new shower head every month.
