The hole actually won me over once I stopped treating it like a handle and just let my index finger rest there during rocking cuts. Took me about two weeks of dinners before it clicked. If you’re forcing your grip around it, yeah, that’s gonna feel all wrong.

I do a mix of highway and city and my experience has been a little different from what some folks are saying. The stop and go part is actually where I noticed my fuel numbers stop bouncing around so much. Before the device, my tank average would swing all over the place depending on how bad traffic was that week. After about a month and a half with it, the bad traffic weeks don’t drag my average down nearly as much as they used to. It’s not like the car magically sips fuel while idling, but the overall weekly number stays more consistent, which I appreciate. The 150 mile learning thing probably matters here because the first couple weeks I wasn’t sure it was doing anything at all. Once it settled in, the difference in consistency showed up. So yeah, I’d say crawling traffic is still part of what it’s working with, not something that throws it off.

I hang my shirts on the bathroom rod for ten minutes first to let the worst of the dampness off, then finish them in the unit. Cuts the run time way down and I hear the fan less overall.

I’ve had mine for a few months and the volume buttons do the job fine for me. I usually just tap the down one a couple times before a game starts and it gets quiet enough that nobody on the bus gives me looks. No dedicated mute button that I’ve found, but honestly the rocker alone has been enough.

Mine does catch some of my upper back but it’s pretty mild compared to what I feel in my shoulders. I still use it mostly as a neck and shoulder thing and treat the upper back stuff as a bonus. If yours sits lower, that might just be how it fits on you.

I mostly use mine for one on one stuff too. For me the difference isn’t which mode, it’s whether the auto stuff is doing its job. When I first got them I kept poking at the modes because I figured quiet mode had to be the right one for a normal room. Then I stopped bothering and just left them alone. They still pick up speech fine and I don’t feel like I’m missing words the way I used to before I got them. The one thing I do touch is volume, and that’s only if the other person is a mumbler or there’s a fan running. So to answer the actual question, yes they help in a plain quiet room, and no you don’t have to fiddle with modes constantly. I think the mode thing gets overstated online. Just wear them and see how it goes.

I think the app kind of has to be running somewhere in the background for translation to work at all. The glasses themselves are mostly just mic and speaker as far as I can tell. When I first got mine I assumed the translation was happening on the glasses, but then one day I closed the app completely to save battery and tried talking and nothing came through. Opened it back up, worked again right away. So it seems like the phone is doing the actual translating and the glasses are just passing audio back and forth.

That said, you don’t have to actively open it every single time. Mine stays in the background pretty much all day and I just forget about it. The one thing I did change is I turned off battery optimization for the app in my phone settings, because at first my phone kept killing it after a while and I couldn’t figure out why translation randomly stopped working. After that it’s been way more consistent for me.

So basically you’re not missing a setting, it’s just how the thing is built. The app needs to be alive somewhere, but it doesn’t need to be on your screen. Curious if anyone else has noticed the battery thing though, because that was the confusing part for me at the start.

in reply to: How does the Pro Capture handle shadows in bright sun? #10804

I haven’t really run into this as a big issue, and I ride a fair amount on tree-lined roads where you’d think it would show up. What I noticed on mine is that the shadow thing depends a lot on which way the camera is pointed. If I’ve got the sun off to the side or behind me, the shaded spots come out way more usable than when I’m riding straight into it. Same trail, same time of day, just flipped the mount around and the difference was honestly surprising. So before you go digging through settings, it might just be the angle you’re shooting at. I don’t mess with exposure at all and I’ve been happy with how it looks most rides.

in reply to: ChirpyCharm AI bird ID – is the subscription actually needed? #10655

The subscription is less “optional” than it sounds if ID is the reason you’re buying it. That’s the part I’d push back on. I get why people frame it as a bonus, but for me the ID is what makes the whole thing feel useful. Watching a clip and going “huh, neat bird” gets old after a while. Once the app actually tells you what you’re looking at, you start noticing patterns and it becomes more of a hobby. So I don’t really buy the “you lose nothing” angle. You lose the thing that makes the footage make sense. That said, if you genuinely just want to see birds coming and going and don’t care about names, then skipping it is fine and the feeder still does its job. It just depends on whether you’re the type who wants to know or the type who’s happy just watching.

I gave mine a solid two weeks before touching the jaw position at all. My thinking was that the boil and bite part needs time to sort of settle in, and if you start cranking the jaw forward while your mouth is still getting used to the basic fit, it’s hard to tell what’s actually helping and what’s just new. Once I did start adjusting, I went really slow, like one small notch every few nights, mostly because I noticed my jaw was a little sore in the mornings if I pushed it too fast. The snoring side of things actually got better for me after that slow approach versus trying to rush it. So I’d say there’s no magic day, but giving it a bit more runway before you mess with the jaw setting worked out well on my end.

Alright, thanks for all the input on this, everyone. Sounds like the general consensus is to just plug it in and not overthink the placement. I’ll probably try to tuck mine away neatly anyway, just for peace of mind. Appreciate the help!

I’m probably the odd one out here but mine stays in the car full time and it’s actually been fine through two summers now. The glovebox seems to keep it out of the worst of it. I do check the masks every few months just to make sure they haven’t gotten weird or warped, but so far nothing.

in reply to: Black Falcon Drone setup time – is it really quick? #9404

Once you’ve done it a few times it’s pretty much muscle memory. I had mine out of the bag and hovering within a couple minutes, and that includes connecting my phone. The app part is just a quick pairing screen for me, no real fiddling. It’s definitely not one of those drones you dread taking out.

in reply to: Herz P1 Smart Ring stress tracking actually useful or just numbers? #9342

I treat mine as a rough guide rather than a mirror of how I feel in the moment. The stress score makes more sense to me when I look at it as a trend over a full day instead of checking it constantly. It’s kind of like a weather forecast, useful for planning but not something to obsess over hourly.

in reply to: Does the ResQVac really clear the airway in one pull? #8089

I think expecting one pull to always do it is setting yourself up for a stressful situation. I keep ours in the kitchen and I’ve practiced on a mannequin a few times. Sometimes it clears on the first go, sometimes it takes a second pull. It’s more about getting the hang of the motion than any magic guarantee. Still glad we have it around, though.

I’ve used mine for a couple of full charges doing the carport and it stayed pretty comfortable the whole time. The one thing I noticed is that after a while my thumb got a little tired from holding the trigger at full speed, but switching to a lower setting helped. I wouldn’t call it heavy at all though.

in reply to: Does the Glacier Breeze help much in a small bedroom at night? #7125

I have to push back a little on the idea that the cooling part is just a gimmick. I get why some people feel that way, especially if they’re expecting AC, but for me the water tank and the ice chamber actually change how the room feels. My bedroom isn’t tiny, but it’s not big either, and I’ve noticed that the air just feels less stale when it’s running. I think the humidity part is doing more work than people give it credit for.

I do keep it on medium overnight, and it’s not like the room turns into a fridge, but I don’t wake up with that dry, stuffy feeling anymore. Also, the fact that it can run on battery overnight is a plus for me, because my outlet placement is weird and I don’t want a cord running across the floor. Placement does matter, but I’d say if you’re already feeling a difference on low, you’re probably not missing anything.

I think it works, but you have to understand what it’s actually doing. It’s not like the tag has its own brain. It’s basically your phone keeping track of the Bluetooth connection. So if you walk away from your bag, the moment the signal drops enough, the app goes “hey, you left this behind.” That part has been pretty solid for me. I’ve had it trigger when I walked maybe 30 feet away in a store, which was fine.

The catch is that it really depends on your phone’s Bluetooth behaving itself. Sometimes if my phone is in my pocket and I’m moving around a lot, the alert feels a bit random. Like it might take a minute or two, or it might not fire until I’m halfway down the street. It’s not instant, but it’s not useless either. I wouldn’t rely on it to catch a thief or anything, but for the “oh no, did I leave my bag at the cafe” panic, it’s been fine. Definitely better than nothing.

Mine has a little give too, but honestly I never even think about it. I figure as long as it clicks in and the files save, it’s doing its job. I’d say if yours isn’t falling out or giving you errors, it’s probably just how they all are.

I wouldn’t overthink it. I just do one cycle and move on with my day. It’s not like I’m trying to hit some exact minute mark or anything. As long as I get through the session without falling asleep, I consider it a win. You’ll find your rhythm after a couple of days.

Honestly, I just use mine on low most nights and it’s fine. I wouldn’t expect total silence on high from any fan, but it’s way less annoying than my old bladed one.

Honestly I’ve got knob and tube in parts of my place and the StopWatt still seems to do its thing. Green light came on right away and the fridge feels like it runs smoother, but that could just be me.
