I used a regular drying rack for years and it was silent. Now with the Qinux AirdrobeX, I hear a low hum from the fan. Is that normal? It’s not loud, but I’m just used to complete silence. I guess the trade-off is faster drying, which I do like. Anyone else notice this?

The hum is just part of having a fan in there, mine does the same thing and I stopped noticing it after a week or so. What surprised me more is that the clothes actually come out less wrinkled than they did on my old rack. That alone made the noise worth it for me.

That low hum is just what you get with a fan moving air around. I had a similar switch last year, going from a plain rack to something with a motor, and the noise bugged me for maybe the first few days. Then my brain just filed it away as background noise, like a fridge running. What actually made me notice it less was where I put the thing. Mine sits in a corner near the bathroom, and the tile and walls kind of bounce the sound around more than I expected. When I moved it a couple feet away from the wall, the hum was way less noticeable. I don’t think you’re stuck with it being annoying forever, but I also don’t think you’ll ever get true silence back. That’s just the trade for not waiting two days for a shirt to dry.

I noticed mine more in the evening when the house is quiet, but during the day I barely register it. What got me was the timer beeping, that startled me way more than the fan ever did.

A drying rack is silent because nothing is moving, so once you add a fan the hum is basically unavoidable. Mine isn’t the same model but it has a fan too and I can hear it from the next room if everything else is off. It never bothered me enough to do anything about it though. I actually find it kind of soothing now, like white noise while the clothes dry. The part I had to get used to was the heat smell at first. That faded after a few uses. If the hum is steady and low it’s probably just the fan doing its job. If it ever starts rattling or clicking that’s when I’d start poking around.

The fan noise on mine is actually kind of soothing, like a little white noise machine in the corner. I run it overnight sometimes and it helps me sleep. Different strokes I guess.

I run mine in the laundry room with the door shut, so the hum stays back there. When I did have it in the bedroom it was more noticeable, no question. Louder than the rack but you’re getting dry clothes out of it, that’s the deal.

I hang my shirts on the bathroom rod for ten minutes first to let the worst of the dampness off, then finish them in the unit. Cuts the run time way down and I hear the fan less overall.

Ours has that same low hum and I’ve had it about four months now. It doesn’t bother me at all anymore, I just tune it out like a fridge running. The faster drying is worth way more to me than the quiet was.

I don’t think a fan hum is just something you have to accept. My sister has one of those portable dryers and hers runs pretty much silent, so if yours is humming it might be worth checking that it’s sitting flat on the floor. Could just be vibration against whatever surface it’s on.

I’d probably keep the rack for stuff that doesn’t need speed and only fire up the AirdrobeX when I’m in a hurry. Trading a bit of hum for dry clothes on a rainy day sounds fair to me, but I’d still want to hear one in person before buying.

If yours is brand new and the hum is steady, that’s just the fan doing its thing. If it ever starts rattling or clicking, that would be different. Mine hasn’t done that.

A fan is going to make some kind of noise, there’s no way around that. Mine has that same low hum and it’s been running fine for months. Complete silence only comes with a rack, so you’re basically picking your tradeoff here.
