Carpet is actually fine. The unit is heavy enough that it doesn’t really shift once you’re on it. I’ve used mine in a carpeted bedroom since I got it and never had to chase it around. The only thing I’d mention is the heat takes a bit longer to feel through carpet, but that’s about it.
It’s probably oversold for what it is. I’d say it’s more for keeping things from getting worse than actually removing what’s already there, and the marketing makes that line blurrier than it should be. If your stains are still light, maybe, but don’t expect it to do the work of a hygienist.
I treat mine more like a breadcrumb trail than an exact pin. It’ll tell me the general area my bag is in, which is usually enough. If you need to know which couch cushion it’s under, you’ll probably be disappointed.
Mine does the same thing after it’s been running for a couple hours, especially if the room is warm and the water in the tank is cool. I think it’s just moisture building up on the inside of the plastic, nothing more than that. The line stays visible on mine too, just a bit hazy around the edges. I did notice it gets a little worse if I leave the unit sitting with water in it for a few days without running it. When I empty it out and let it dry completely, the window clears right up. So if it bothers you, that might be worth trying, but for normal daily use I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s just the nature of having a window on a water tank. As long as you can still read the level, it’s fine.
