I just got a SleepZee and I’m worried about the boil-and-bite step. What if I don’t get it right the first time? Can I reheat it and try again, or is it one shot? I haven’t opened the box yet because I don’t want to ruin it.

I think it’s worth opening the box and just trying it. The whole point of boil-and-bite is that you can reheat and redo it if the first fit feels off. Not sure how many times before the material gets weird, but one or two tries should be fine.

I had a different experience with the reheating part. Mine did not go great the second time around. First mold was way too loose because I pulled it out early, so I figured I would just redo it. It softened up fine, but the material got a little tacky and I ended up with a slightly lumpy fit that never felt as clean as the first attempt. Still usable, but not the same as fresh out of the box.

What I would say is the first mold actually matters more than people make it sound. If you rush it or bite down too hard you can end up with something that pushes your jaw further than it should, and then you are stuck sleeping with it or messing around with round two. I have used a cheaper boil and bite before this one and that thing basically turned to mush after one redo, so SleepZee held up better, but it was not like hitting a reset button.

If I were doing it again I would probably just take my time on the first try, use a timer, and not try to fix it five times in one night. One redo seems fine. More than that and you are rolling the dice a bit. Not a dealbreaker, just something I wish I had known.

If it were me I’d just open it and give it a go. You get a couple of tries with these things before the material starts acting weird, so the first attempt doesn’t have to be perfect. I’d rather find out early than leave it sitting in the box.

I remolded mine twice and it still worked fine, so you’re not stuck with the first attempt. The thing I’d pay attention to is the water temp and how long you leave it in. If the water’s too hot or you soak it too long, the material gets really soft and kind of floppy, which makes it harder to get a clean impression. First time I did it I rushed it and the fit was off, but the second try came out way better once I let it soften just enough.

One thing nobody mentions is that you should test the fit before it fully cools. Once it hardens you’re basically locked into that shape until you reheat. So press it in, check how your jaw sits, and adjust right then if something feels off. You don’t have to get it perfect on attempt one, just don’t let it cool down in a bad position. Opening the box is fine, it’s not a one-shot deal.

It depends on the material. Most of these can take a second run, but some go soft or stop holding shape after one reheat. If the fit is way off after your first try, I’d just redo it once and see how it feels.

You get one decent reheat, that’s about it. I did a half-assed first mold, reheated it once and the second fit was fine. Try a third time and you’re pushing it. Just open the box.

I remolded mine after a botched first try and it worked, but the plastic got noticeably softer after that second round. Still fits, just feels less solid than day one. So you get a redo, but don’t plan on five.

I haven’t opened mine either, mostly because I figured I’d screw up the first bite anyway. The way I see it, a slightly imperfect mold you can actually use beats a perfect one still sitting in the box.

I used warm water instead of boiling on my second attempt and honestly that worked way better for me. First mold was lopsided and uncomfortable, so I redid it the next morning and the fit actually improved. Still wearing it a few months later with no issues.

I opened mine right away and screwed up the first bite pretty bad, but a second round in hot water fixed it. The material still felt fine to me, no weird softness or anything. So yeah, you can redo it, just don’t leave it in the water too long.

One reheat is about all you get before it starts acting different. I’d just open the box and go for it, a bad first bite isn’t the end of the world.

You can reheat it, it’s not one shot. I fumbled my first mold and redid it the next day without much trouble. It’s not something I’d want to keep redoing forever, but one bad attempt is easy to fix.

I’d open it and just try. If you’re that worried, do a dry run without biting down hard so you can see how it sits first. Mine came out a little off on the first go and I still used it that night.

I remolded mine three times over the first week because I kept tweaking the fit, and it still held up fine. The material gets a bit softer each round but nothing that ruined it. If your first bite comes out uneven, just dunk it again and start over.

Reheating works, but the part nobody mentions is that the fit changes after it cools down. I molded mine, thought it was good, wore it one night, and by morning my jaw was killing me. Not because the mold was wrong, but because I had my jaw pushed too far forward when I bit down. So I reheated it the next evening and this time I just let my jaw sit in its normal relaxed position instead of trying to force it forward. Way better. Slept through the night with it.

The thing I’d say is don’t judge the fit right after molding while it’s still warm and soft. It feels great then. Wait until it’s fully cooled and hard, then put it in and see how it actually sits. That’s when you’ll know if you need to redo it.

Mine has been reheated twice now and the material is still holding up fine, no cracks or anything. It does get a little softer each time though, so I wouldn’t plan on doing it every week forever. But for fixing a bad first attempt, you’re fine.

Just open the box. Sitting there staring at it isn’t going to make the first mold better.

I’d open it. If you mess up the first mold you can reheat and try again, it’s not a one-shot deal. Mine needed a second pass and it was fine. Just don’t sit there reheating it ten times expecting it to stay like new.

Mine got a little wonky on the second try since the material softens each time. First mold actually ended up fine once I stopped fiddling with it. Just check the fit before bed instead of right after.
