I don’t track it that closely, but mine usually die somewhere around the 6-7 hour mark per charge, and I’ve never actually added up the case recharges. 50 hours feels like a best case scenario kind of number.
Ceramic heaters do feel different because the heat comes off the element directly with the fan pushing it out, so what you’re getting is basically warmed air moving through the room rather than a big hot mass sitting there radiating. The oil ones store all that heat in the metal and release it slow, which is why they feel heavier and more even. I’ve noticed the same thing with these smaller heaters, they’re great for feeling warm quickly but the room itself doesn’t hold that baked feeling the same way. It’s not really a defect, just how the two designs work. If the room is small and closed up, the ceramic one will eventually get the air temp up and it feels more normal, but in an open space it’s more like you’re sitting in a warm draft than a warm room. That’s just the tradeoff for how fast it starts.
Typing is the exact reason I stopped using mine at work. My hands were fine but I kept catching the edge on the desk whenever I reached for anything.
Mine sat through two summers and still left nothing behind. I just wiped it with a damp cloth and it was gone. Sounds more like the glass had something on it already.
I bought mine thinking the case was always included and it wasn’t. Had to order one separately, which was annoying since the whole point was snorkeling. So no, it’s not guaranteed.
I’ve used both and the SawShark does hold the angle a bit better for me, especially on the second and third sharpen. Whether that’s worth it depends on how much you sharpen. For occasional touch ups I still grab the old guide since it’s already sitting there.
I picked one up before a trip to Japan and honestly the offline thing was way less of an issue than I expected. In the cities my phone had signal basically everywhere so it stayed in online mode the whole time. The only stretch where I actually relied on offline was a couple days out in the countryside, and for basic stuff like asking directions or ordering food it handled Japanese fine. I didn’t try to run through all 68 languages or anything, but the ones I actually needed worked when I had no bars. That was the part I cared about. So for me it did what I wanted. If you’re planning to spend most of your time somewhere really remote you might want to check the specific language first, but for normal travel it was fine.
I do the same thing honestly. Ten minutes feels like forever once the tingling gets intense. I just shift them when it gets uncomfortable and call it a session, probably ends up being 15 minutes total anyway. Doesn’t seem like there’s a right or wrong way as long as it feels okay.
I just use mine as a lantern honestly. The bug thing is a bonus if I happen to stay close to it, but I wouldnt buy it as a primary repellent. I think people get too hung up on that feature when the light itself is pretty solid for the price.
I’d say wall outlet is the safer bet if you can manage it. These little heaters draw a decent amount of power and the cord on mine is pretty short anyway, so a power strip would have meant some awkward positioning. I get the outlet situation being annoying though. In my place the only spot that made sense was near a surge protector and I just moved a lamp to free up the wall socket instead. Took two minutes and saved me from wondering if something was gonna overheat at 2am.
I think the dark room thing is more about being able to see where the light hits so you know what’s covered. Sunlight isn’t going to stop the UV bulb from doing its job, it just makes it harder to notice if something is blocking the light. I usually shut the curtains for that reason, not because the daylight actually messes with anything.
I think the calm place thing is doing more of the heavy lifting than people want to admit, but that doesn’t mean the mat is useless either. For me, having one under my desk changed my posture more than my stress. I stopped crossing my legs or perching on the edge of my chair because the mat gave my feet a reason to stay flat on the floor. That alone made my back feel better by the end of the day, which probably helped me feel less tense overall.
I never noticed any big mental shift while using it. No sudden wave of calm or better focus. What I did notice was that I was more aware of where my body was and how I was sitting. That little bit of mindfulness during a workday can add up.
The grounding part might be doing something, I won’t rule it out, but I think it’s too subtle to notice in a few weeks. Stress is usually built up over months or years, so expecting a mat to undo that in a month seems optimistic. Even if it works, it probably works slowly enough that you can’t point to the exact day it kicked in.
I still use mine mostly because it feels nice and keeps my feet from getting cold on the floor. If the relaxation comes along with it, great. If not, I didn’t lose much.
Honestly, I was the opposite of most people here. I didn’t find mine overly firm at the start. It was more like it just felt… there. Like I was aware of the pillow the whole night, if that makes sense. Not uncomfortable, just not invisible like a pillow should be after a while.
I kept second-guessing the shape of it. The butterfly cutouts and everything looked cool in the pictures, but in the dark it just felt like a weird lumpy thing under my head. I almost returned it because I kept waking up and noticing it, which is weird because I usually fall asleep anywhere.

So yeah, there is an adjustment period, but I don’t think it’s about the foam breaking in. It’s about your neck and brain getting used to the shape. You have to give it a minute before your body stops fighting it.
I had the same worry before buying mine. The mounting plate is pretty standard, so it went on my older Tanaka without any hassle. I’d say if your cutter uses the common bolt-on style head, you’re probably fine. Maybe just check the shaft size before you order.
I would not run it on grates that are still really hot. I tried it once right after cooking and the heat just felt off, plus it made the whole thing harder to hold after a bit. Warm is fine, but I would let it sit a few minutes first.
I wouldnt trust it as my only protection. I took mine on a trip near a lake and the bugs were still all over me even though the light was on. It seemed to keep them from hovering right around the lamp itself, but anything more than a few feet away didnt care. Bring the spray.
I don’t get the ice thing at all. If the fan is hitting you directly it’s already doing what it needs to do, and ice just adds extra work for maybe ten minutes of slightly colder air. I’d rather just keep a bottle of cold water nearby and skip the freezer routine.
The phone is basically the display for this thing, so I wouldnt skip it. Without it, you’re just pointing the camera somewhere and hoping it looks right. I fly with mine connected every time just because it feels pointless otherwise.
I had mine stuck up on a painted wall for a few weeks and the adhesive gave out eventually. It didn’t crash hard or anything, just slid down slowly during the night. I think it depends a lot on the paint quality and if the wall gets any warmth from the sun.
The range thing is the part people miss. The alert only triggers once the tag drops off Bluetooth, so if you park right next to your bag it can take a while before you get pinged. I found that out the hard way in a coffee shop when I left my backpack on a table like two meters away. It works, just don’t expect it to be instant.
Mine had a little charge when I opened it, just enough to run one cycle. I still plugged it in while I was cleaning the bottle and getting it ready, so by the time I actually wanted to use it, it was topped off. Probably not a bad habit to get into anyway.
I think the whole oiling thing gets blown out of proportion. I got mine a while back and the handle still looks fine, I just wipe it down after washing and let it air dry. The wood has darkened a bit where I grip it but that’s about it. If it ever starts looking really dry, I might bother with oil, but until then it’s not something I think about.
