I used to have one of those heavy oil-filled radiators that took forever to heat up but felt really toasty. Now I’m using the WellHeater and it’s definitely faster, but I’m not sure if the heat feels the same. It warms up my little office in like five minutes, which is nice, but sometimes it feels more like a fan blowing warm air than actual room heat. Is that just how ceramic heaters work? Not complaining exactly, just wondering if I’m missing something.

Ceramic heaters do feel different, more like a warm breeze hitting you than the whole room getting that baked feel. I noticed with mine that if I put it on the floor instead of a desk, the warmth spreads around the room better. Sitting right in front of it is where it really shines though.

I don’t think that’s just a ceramic thing. My old oil radiator felt way warmer even hours later, and the ceramic one I tried had that fan blowing feel too. So it’s probably just how those work.

Mine actually does warm the room itself, not just whatever is in front of it. I’ve had it running in a closed bedroom for a couple hours and the whole space held heat fine. If it only feels like a fan to you, something’s off with how you’re using it.

That’s normal for these little ceramic units. Mine heats up my space fast too, but it feels more like standing in front of a hair dryer than actual room heat. I still use it though.

I actually prefer the fan type now. My old radiator gave me that nice baked heat but I could never leave it running in the morning without planning ahead. With this one I just flick it on when I sit down and I’m comfortable by the time my coffee’s ready.

Mine feels plenty warm to me, just in a different way. The oil one had that heavy heat that wraps around you, but the WellHeater actually gets my space comfortable way quicker, so I don’t miss the old one.

Ceramic heaters do feel different because the heat comes off the element directly with the fan pushing it out, so what you’re getting is basically warmed air moving through the room rather than a big hot mass sitting there radiating. The oil ones store all that heat in the metal and release it slow, which is why they feel heavier and more even. I’ve noticed the same thing with these smaller heaters, they’re great for feeling warm quickly but the room itself doesn’t hold that baked feeling the same way. It’s not really a defect, just how the two designs work. If the room is small and closed up, the ceramic one will eventually get the air temp up and it feels more normal, but in an open space it’s more like you’re sitting in a warm draft than a warm room. That’s just the tradeoff for how fast it starts.

Nah, it won’t feel like an oil radiator and that’s not a flaw in the WellHeater. Those old radiators heat the whole room slowly through the metal, so the warmth kind of sits in the air and stays put. A ceramic unit pushes warm air at you, so it feels different even if the room hits the same temp.

I had a similar switch a while back and I noticed the same thing. The ceramic one was way faster, but if I stepped out of its path it felt cooler in the room than with the radiator. Once I left it running a while and let the room actually soak it up, it evened out a lot more than I expected. Still not identical, just different.

So you’re not missing anything. It’s just how these two types behave. If you want that baked feel you’d go back to oil, but you’d also go back to waiting forever.

Mine actually surprised me in the other direction. I expected that blow dryer feeling everyone talks about and got something closer to the old radiator than I figured, at least once it had been running a while. The first few minutes are definitely that warm air moving around thing, no argument there. But I left it going in my back room for most of a Sunday while I was in and out doing laundry and by the afternoon the whole space had that even, settled kind of warmth. Not hot exactly, just consistently warm in a way I didn’t expect from something that small.

The part that sold me was being able to actually use it. My old radiator took so long to get going that I’d only bother if I knew I was parked somewhere for hours. Now I just flick it on when I sit down and it’s doing something useful almost immediately, even if the feel is different at first. Different kind of heat, sure, but I stopped missing the old one after a couple weeks.

One thing nobody warned me about, it dries my eyes out if it’s pointed right at me for too long. Learned that the hard way during a movie night. Angled it toward the wall a bit and it’s been fine since.

I went back and forth on this exact thing. When I first got mine, I figured it was just a glorified fan heater and I’d end up returning it. That blow dryer feel drove me nuts the first week. But after about a month of using it in the same spot every evening, I stopped noticing the fan part entirely. Now it just feels like the room is warm, not like air is hitting me. I think the difference is your body adjusts to the constant gentle movement, whereas the old oil radiator had that silent bake that you notice because nothing is moving at all.

The one thing that actually changed my mind was walking into the room after it had been running a while. The heat was just there. No waiting, no cold corners near the door. With the old one I’d have to stand right next to it to feel anything, and the rest of the room stayed chilly for a good hour. So yeah, it’s a different kind of warm, but I’ll take the tradeoff. Sitting there waiting for metal to heat up got old fast.
