Round grates are always going to be a compromise with something like this. I’ve used mine on a kettle a handful of times and just accepted that the outer ring takes a bit more work. It’s not really a technique issue, the shape just doesn’t match.
If I didn’t want to drill holes I’d just leave it on the desk and not think twice. It’s not like the wall mount is doing some magic the desk can’t. You just lose the height, which matters more than the placement itself.
The self-test catching a dying sensor thing is where I’d push back. Everyone keeps saying it only checks the alarm, but that wasn’t my experience. Mine actually started false alarming on the gas side around year four, and when I ran the test it failed outright. So the test did catch something, just not in a way I expected. It wasn’t subtle drift either, it just went bad.
As for the date, I never counted from plugging it in. That seems off to me. The clock starts when the sensors are made, not when you finally get around to putting it in the outlet. Mine sat in a closet for maybe eight months before I used it, and I’m not pretending those months didn’t happen. I went off the sticker on the back.
What actually killed mine was the display. Numbers started jumping around for no reason, then it just showed dashes one morning. No warning from the self-test before that. So I replaced it and moved on. Roughly four and a half years of actual use, give or take.
If there’s genuinely no date anywhere on yours, that’s a problem with the packaging, not with you. I’d still count from the manufacture sticker if there is one, and from purchase if there isn’t. Counting from plug-in just buys you extra time you probably don’t have.
Mine actually does warm the room itself, not just whatever is in front of it. I’ve had it running in a closed bedroom for a couple hours and the whole space held heat fine. If it only feels like a fan to you, something’s off with how you’re using it.
Mine’s the same. It’s quiet in a normal room but once the central air kicks off at night, that fan is the only thing left to hear. Doesn’t actually get louder, it just stops having competition. If you need dead silence, a fan of any kind is going to be a problem.
I got mine from a listing that clearly listed the case as included, and it was in the box. If the listing you’re looking at doesn’t say it’s included, assume it isn’t. That’s the only thing that matters here.
High ceilings basically turn these into a personal heater. Mine keeps my feet warm under the desk but the rest of the room stays cold, so I stopped expecting it to do anything for the space itself. If you want the room warm, this isn’t it.
The whole “you need their app” thing is overblown. I’ve been running mine through a third party app for about six weeks now and my steps and sleep sync fine. Heart rate is the only thing that’s spotty, but I never trusted that on a watch like this anyway. What I did notice is that if you don’t open whatever app you pick at least every couple of days, the watch just stops pushing data and you lose chunks of it. So it’s less about which app and more about actually opening it. The manual being useless is pretty standard for these. I wouldn’t bother switching apps at this point if the one you’ve got is already pulling your steps, that’s the main thing most people actually look at. The rest of it is questionable no matter what app you use.
I waited closer to ten minutes once because of a phone call, and it turned into a sticky mess that just smeared around instead of buffing out. The whole “it wipes off fine no matter what” thing doesn’t match what I dealt with. Three minutes is probably the ceiling for me.
Then you’re just paying for a viewer that can’t save anything, which kind of defeats the purpose if you ask me. It’ll work fine for looking at stuff in the dark, but if you see something worth keeping you’ll be stuck describing it to people instead of showing them. I’d rather wait and get the card with it than deal with that frustration later.
Honestly not sure the safety guard is the part that matters here. It’s still a small handheld thing you have to position correctly against the nail. If his hands are shaky enough that aiming is the problem, this doesn’t fix that. It just means he won’t gouge himself when he misses.
Mine stayed put fine on carpet, I never had it slide out from under me. The weight of it plus your body on top is enough to keep it planted. Carpet didn’t really seem like it’d be an issue unless you have one of those super slick low-pile rugs.
Mine is noticeably softer too. I actually had to test it a couple times because I thought the battery was weak or something. The old Tile was obnoxious enough to hear from another room, this one I can barely hear if it’s under a couch cushion.
Mine gets warm too, but honestly I’ve never really cared. It’s not like it’s burning up or doing anything weird. If it was actually hot I’d be concerned, but slightly warm after running all night just seems like the thing is doing something. I’d only bother checking it if it started getting hot to the point where you can’t hold it.
Worked fine in a crowded bar once, but that was mostly because the person I was talking to spoke slowly and faced me directly. The noise reduction does something, sure, but it is not magic. If you are in an airport cafe with people talking over each other and announcements in the background, expect it to stumble.
The bigger issue is that it picks up whoever is closest to the mic, so if someone next to you is laughing or talking loud, that can mess things up. I had a conversation where random background chatter got translated instead of what the other person actually said. That was annoying.
For a busy airport cafe, I would say try it but keep your expectations low. It might work if you are in a quieter corner. If you are right in the middle of everything, do not count on it being clear.
Never understood why people expect one pull to fix every possible blockage. That is not how choking works. The device is just a tool, it still depends on what is stuck and where. I would rather have it in the cabinet than not, but I am not treating it like a magic wand.
I haven’t had that problem, but I also don’t expect much from these coated boards. The claims always sound better than the reality. If you’re already noticing smells after a few weeks, that’s probably just how it’s going to be.
I tried the offline mode once before a flight and it was pretty underwhelming. It’ll do basic stuff, but if you’re relying on it for a real conversation, you’re going to be disappointed. I’d plan around having signal.
Different sensor, different algorithm, same story. These things all use arm swing and guesswork. My old one undercounted, this one overcounts. At this point I just use it as a rough gauge and don’t take the number seriously.
If you’re out all day and actually using it, bring the power bank. Mine died way earlier than I expected once I stopped treating it like a novelty and started using it for real conversations. It’s not that it’s terrible, it’s just not as tough as the marketing makes it sound. Better safe than stuck miming at someone.
Mirroring on mine has been decent enough for a quick YouTube or map on the TV, but the quality drops fast if the Wi-Fi is weak. Works fine in a pinch, but I wouldn’t rely on it for anything important.
Own two of these things because I lost the first one and it still handles my coarse hair fine. The blades are fast enough that they just clip it off before anything gets caught.
Mine’s been running in the hallway for a couple weeks and I haven’t noticed anything worse than usual. But I also keep a humidifier going in the winter anyway, so maybe I just don’t notice. Could be more about the room than the heater itself.
Low pressure is usually fine. I’ve used it on a hose that barely pushes water and it still sprays hard enough to knock mud off patio tiles. Not a miracle worker, but it does the job.
