I picked one up a few weeks ago and have used it a couple evenings for that same low light window. It does fine, not amazing, but the bats are visible against the sky. I mostly just watch, haven’t tried recording them yet.
I’d probably figure out what’s causing the sensitivity first before buying anything. I had that brushing twinge for a while and it turned out to be from brushing too hard with a medium bristle brush, not my gums themselves. Switched to soft and it settled down in a couple weeks. So if the source is enamel or recession, a mouthguard type thing isn’t really aimed at that. If it’s more that your gums just feel tender or puffy, then something like this might be more in the right ballpark. I haven’t tried the Nunawave so I can’t say how it performs, but the description leans toward gum care and inflammation rather than fixing sensitivity at the root. Might be worth asking your dentist what’s actually going on before spending on it.
I left mine plugged in overnight the first time and it was fine. The light on the charger is what I go by, not the clock. If it’s green in the morning, you’re good to fly.
I have high ceilings in my apartment too and I went back and forth on whether a plug-in heater was even worth trying. What I ended up doing was paying attention to where I actually spend time in the room rather than trying to heat the whole space evenly. For me, that meant near the couch and my desk. A small heater pointed at me there made a difference even though the rest of the room stayed cool. The ceiling height matters less if you’re not expecting the air up top to warm up. I think the honest answer is that it depends on what you want from it. If you want the whole living room to feel warm, this type of heater probably won’t get you there. If you just want to be comfortable in one spot, it can work fine. That’s been my experience anyway, and it’s why I stopped expecting mine to do more than that.
I usually just fill mine with whatever I have left and it’s been fine. The cooling kicks in the same, I just know I’ll have to add water again sooner. I never really expected it to hit the full 8 hours anyway since I run it on a higher speed most of the time.
The 10 minute mark is usually where I stop too, not because of pain but because the sensation just gets too intense in one area. I think moving them around is fine and probably better than forcing yourself to sit through it. The manual gives a range for a reason.
I was wondering the same thing before I got mine, so I get the question. I usually run mine in the evening just because that’s when I remember to do it, but I have used it once in the middle of the afternoon with the blinds half open. It still seemed to do its thing. The room smelled fresher after and I didn’t notice any difference from the times I ran it at night.
I think the bigger issue is just being able to see the light so you know it’s on. During the day it’s harder to notice the glow, so you have to be more careful about walking in too soon. That’s more of a practical thing than a science thing for me. I just set the timer and close the door either way.
I was actually surprised by how mild the heat is too. I expected more of a deep warming sensation, but it’s really just a light warmth. I’ve had mine for a couple weeks and I mostly use it for the compression and vibration now. The heat feels like an afterthought rather than a main feature.
Cats are unpredictable, so I get the concern. I don’t have one myself, but I have knocked things over near mine and it stayed put. The base feels heavier than the rest of the fan, which helps. I would not call it tippy.
I’ve used mine in a busy cafe and the person on the other end could still hear me fine. The mics seem to focus on your voice pretty well, so street noise and chatter don’t really bleed through much.
I’ve had the opposite experience, honestly. I picked one up expecting it to be a direct replacement and it just didn’t move the air the same way. It’s fine for sitting right next to it, but I found myself missing the old fan’s reach across the room. I ended up using it more as a desktop thing than a room cooler.
I’d say don’t let the window thing decide for you. The antenna doesn’t care where it sits as much as what’s around it. I’d just grab one and run a channel scan in a couple of spots before you give up on it.
I’ve used mine with sink water since I got it, both at home and at the gym. Never had a problem with the UV part doing its thing. The only thing I’d keep in mind is that it’s not going to change how the water tastes or remove anything weird that’s already in your tap water. If your water’s fine to drink as is, then the bottle’s just adding an extra layer on top. If you’re on well water or something with a funky mineral taste, you’re still going to taste that. So I’d say it works, but don’t expect it to make bad tap water taste better. It’s more about keeping the bottle itself from getting gross after a few days of use.
Drops on the glass are kind of their own thing no matter what you wear. I was more bothered by the spray coming off trucks on the highway than the rain itself, and the glasses handled that glare noticeably better. A proper downpour is just rough visibility for everyone I think.
I had mine for about three weeks before I even remembered it had an SD slot. I bought it mostly for checking on some noise around my backyard at night, not for recording anything. The first few nights I just took it out, switched it on, and looked through it like a normal monocular. It worked fine. The screen lit up, the IR did its thing, and I could see what I needed to see.
It wasn’t until I wanted to show a friend a photo of a raccoon that kept knocking over my trash that I actually put a card in. Before that, I didn’t even think about storage. The device never mentioned it, never flashed a warning, nothing. It just operated like a regular viewer.
One thing I will say, though, is that if you do decide to get a card later, make sure it’s formatted before you use it. I thought mine was ready to go straight out of the package and the first few shots I tried to save just didn’t appear anywhere. Ended up having to format it through the device menu and then it worked fine. So the card is really only for when you want to keep something. For just walking and looking, you’re good with nothing in it.
I would still pick one up eventually because you never know when you’ll want to capture something, but it’s not a blocker for basic use.
I had the same worry before I got mine, but honestly the fit surprised me. I don’t have a particularly small mouth, but I do have a narrow palate and most mouthguards feel like they’re pushing my teeth apart. This one is flexible enough that it kind of molds to your bite after a few uses. The first time I put it in it felt a bit like wearing a thick retainer, but by the third or fourth session I sort of forgot it was there. I can wear it for the full 10 minutes without jaw fatigue.
The only thing I would note is that it does add a bit of bulk in the front, so if you have a strong gag reflex that might take some getting used to. But it’s not like those bulky sports mouthguards at all. I would say try it and give yourself a couple of days to adjust before deciding.
I have zero patience for setup fuss and mine hangs fine with just a couple of hooks. No wrinkles that matter during a movie, and I’m not gentle with it. I think people who complain are expecting it to behave like a rigid TV, which it’s never going to be. If you’re okay with that, it’s fine.
I have a feeling the mirroring gets pretty dependent on whatever phone you are using. Some devices cast much smoother than others. I would try it at home on your own TV first before relying on it at a hotel, just so you know what to expect.
I think it might just be how the surface is. I haven’t tried one myself, but the non-porous thing has to feel different from plastic. Maybe a damp paper towel under it would help, but I’m not totally sure if that’s a common thing.
I tried mine in a room with afternoon sun and it didn’t really cut it for me. Had to move it closer to the bed to feel any difference.
