I moved mine to the kitchen a while back thinking the same thing and it made zero difference for me. I ended up putting it back where it was. If you’re happy with where it is, I’d probably just leave it.
I think the upgrade that matters most is just having enough supplies to not leave the house for a week. We kept a bin with extra food, litter, and a few gallon jugs of water and it covered us fine. The cold meds thing I’d probably just use a small cooler with an ice pack if it came to that.
I have the same habit of stepping on it every morning and I get closer to six weeks per charge, not months. The handle part seems to be what eats the battery since it has to power the extra sensors for the full body scan. If I skip the handle and just do a regular weigh in, it lasts noticeably longer. So if you’re planning a full scan daily, expect to plug it in more often than the box suggests. It’s not a dealbreaker for me since charging is quick, but the 180 days thing is definitely based on lighter use than what you’re describing.
I’d skip it for work rentals and just keep it for my own car. Swapping it around every few days just sounds like a hassle for something that barely gets going. If I had a long-term rental for a month or two, then sure.
Mine actually blends in better on my white e-reader than it did on the dark one I had before, so I don’t think light devices automatically make it look worse. Maybe it depends on the finish of the surface.
I went the other direction and actually prefer the softer feel on mine. My old red one always felt like it was digging in around the face, which made me hesitant to press down properly. The squishy one just kind of molds where it needs to, so I stopped fighting it.
We actually do use ours in a closet, so I get the confusion but the “portable” thing isn’t totally pointless. Ours lives in the hall closet most of the time and I just run an extension cord under the door when I want to use it. It’s not elegant, but the cord stays plugged in behind a shelf so I’m not dragging it out every single time.
The reason I bother is that this particular closet is where we keep the dog’s blankets and a couple of jackets, and it always had that closed up musty smell no matter how often I aired it out. I run the lamp in there for a cycle maybe once a week with the door shut and nobody around, and after a few weeks the smell was noticeably less. Not gone completely, but better. So for me it does something in a small space, even with the cord situation.
The part I’d say is that if you’re picturing yourself carrying it around like a little lantern, that’s not really how it works. It’s portable in the sense that you can move it between rooms, not that you can use it anywhere without power. For a closet specifically, you need to be able to shut the door and keep everyone out while it runs anyway, so the cord is kind of the least of the hassle. If you can’t do that, it’s probably not worth fighting with.
I actually prefer the slim nozzle on cushions, the brush just kind of skates over the fabric for me. Maybe it depends on what kind of couch you have? Mine is a tighter weave so the brush doesn’t dig in much.
I’d just keep it on the hard floor and not bother with the rug at all. If the bathroom is carpeted, maybe take it to another room when you want the full scan, but for everyday weight it’s fine to leave it somewhere solid. I know that’s not what you want to hear, but it’s probably the easiest way to avoid weird numbers.
I used mine mostly for fine lines and was surprised that a couple of my older acne marks did look lighter after maybe 8 weeks. Not gone, just less obvious. If spots are your only reason to buy it, I’d probably look at other options first.
I think it depends what kind of “rough edges” bother you. Mine never left my nails snaggy or anything, but I still run a quick swipe with a buffer because I like them really smooth. If your main annoyance is having to file after clippers, this does cut that step out for the most part. I keep mine in a drawer and use it maybe once a week, and it’s been fine for basic upkeep. It’s not some huge upgrade over clippers though, so I get why some people wouldn’t bother. I’m not sure how it’d hold up if you let your nails get really long between trims, since I usually stay on top of mine.

I still like having the phone on for the map and battery level, even on short flights. That part is more useful to me than the camera view honestly. So I guess my preference is just keeping it mounted and not messing with it.
I mostly use mine for indoor barking so I can’t say much about the wall situation. But my neighbor’s setup outside on their patio worked fine for their dog. Maybe try putting it outside with him instead of inside?
I gave up on line for that exact job and grabbed one of these instead. It does bite into the moss in the cracks, but it also chewed up the edges of my concrete a bit. Works, just go easy around the nice parts.
I’ll push back a little on the idea that the heat is a gimmick. I’ve had mine for about two months and I mostly grab it for my shoulders after I’ve been hunched over my desk too long. The top heat setting is genuinely warm, not just a faint tingle. It’s not going to replace an actual heating pad, but for something stuck on your skin while you sit there, it does feel cozy. What surprised me is that the heat plus a low pulse setting is what makes it work for me, not the heat alone. I tried just the heat once and it was pleasant but kind of just sat there. When I add a gentle pulse underneath it, that’s when my shoulders actually loosen up. So for the neck after a flight, I’d say it’s worth a shot. It won’t knock your socks off, but it’s a real warm feeling, not a fake one.
Mine actually left a slight discoloration too, but it faded on its own after a couple weeks in the sun. I didn’t bother with any special cleaner. Maybe just give it some time before assuming it’s permanent.
I set mine up mostly because of birds pecking at my veggie patch, so that was actually my main reason for buying it. Cats were a bonus. After about six weeks I can say the birds in my yard definitely react to it, just not in the way I expected. They don’t vanish completely, but they stay away from the beds where I have the unit pointed. The ones up in the trees or on the fence don’t seem to care at all. So placement matters more than I thought. I ended up moving mine closer to the ground near the plants and that made a difference for me. It’s not magic, but it’s doing enough that I stopped covering everything with netting, which was the whole point. Maybe try aiming it lower if your birds are mostly on the ground.
I don’t really buy that the shape makes a regular case impossible. It’s a pillow, not a jigsaw puzzle, and most cases have enough give to stretch over odd shapes. If anything, a slightly loose case is easier to deal with than hunting down a special one.
