Weirdly enough, mine does seem to get their attention, but not in the way I expected. I have it near the garden edge, not the feeder, and the squirrels will freeze for a second when they get close, then go about their business. It’s like they’re annoyed but not scared. The cats definitely avoid the whole area, but the squirrels just treat it like a weird noise they have to put up with.
One thing I did notice though, they seem to avoid the spot when the LED light is flashing at dusk. During the day, they don’t care at all. So maybe it’s more of a light thing for them than the sound. If your feeder is in a shadier spot, I wouldn’t expect much. Worth moving it if the light reaches there, but don’t toss the bird food yet.
Mine actually runs warmer than I expected. I noticed it after leaving it on for a few days without touching it. Not hot enough to worry about, but definitely not cool like some people describe. I just make sure there’s a bit of space around the HDMI port and it’s been fine.
I put one on my laptop a few months back and honestly it just blends in with whatever random stickers are already on there. The adhesive held up fine on the smooth surface, but I’d probably stick it on a case if your tablet has that grippy texture. Easier to swap it over if you ever change cases anyway.
I have to disagree that the drops on the windshield are something the glasses can’t touch. I’ve worn mine in a couple of heavy downpours and the drops themselves looked way less distracting to me, like the lenses toned down the brightness of them a bit. The road glare was definitely gone too, so it felt like a fair trade. Maybe my eyes are just weird, but I’d take that over squinting at everything.
I actually think people overestimate how much furniture blocks these things. Mine is tucked behind a pretty wide armchair and the kitchen cabinets are between it and where I used to see ants. They stopped coming around after a couple weeks anyway. Sound waves bounce around more than you’d expect.
I think you’re better off looking at it as an energy stabilizer and not much else. If surge protection was really its strong suit, they would advertise it way louder than they do. For storm protection, I’d still grab a proper surge protector for the expensive stuff.
I think it kind of depends on how the app decides who is who. Ours isn’t the Herz, but a similar one, and my sister and I had this issue where we were almost exactly the same weight for a while. It would sometimes log us under the wrong name if we weighed in around the same time of day. We figured out that if we weighed in at different times, it was usually fine, but back to back it got confused.
What we started doing was just checking the app after we stepped off to make sure it picked the right person. If it didn’t, it takes like two seconds to move the entry to the other profile. A bit annoying, but not a huge deal. I would say just pay attention for the first week or so and see if it actually mixes you up. If it does, you’ll probably notice a pattern and can work around it.
Mine does the same thing and I actually like it. The little chirps feel like a warning before the loud part, so if I’m near it I can catch it before the full alarm starts. Definitely normal for this one.
