Round grates do need a little more attention at the edges, mine are the same way. I usually tilt the head and go around the rim slowly instead of trying to sweep across it. Takes an extra minute but it gets the curve fine.

The light on mine is plenty for reading, no complaints.

in reply to: WineCork Pro vs my old twist handle, is it really easier? #11130

I went through something similar when I first got mine, except my switch was from an old winged corkscrew that I’d used for years. The thing that surprised me wasn’t the pulling part at all. It was how differently I had to hold everything. With the winged one I kind of braced the bottle against my body and it was this whole two handed routine. With the WineCork Pro I found myself just standing it up on the counter and letting it do its thing, which felt weird for the first couple of bottles because I kept wanting to grab the bottle with my other hand out of habit.

After maybe a month of using it regularly, I did notice my wrist wasn’t getting that little ache anymore on nights when we’d open a few bottles back to back. That used to happen with the winged one if we had people over. So in that sense it was easier, but it wasn’t like some dramatic thing where I was struggling before and suddenly everything was effortless. It just kind of quietly removed one small annoyance.

I’d say the bigger change for me was actually that I stopped dreading opening bottles when my hands were already tired from cooking. That’s a pretty specific thing though. Curious whether you’ve noticed anything like that or if it’s just felt about the same for you.

I still do my full 15 and tried 5 minutes a couple times when I was rushed, and I honestly felt just as good after the short ones. So I don’t think the 15 is some magic number you have to hit. My back felt loosened up either way.

I move around a ton too and mostly wake up on my side or stomach. For me the Melara Air works best when I’m on my back, but on my stomach I just shove it aside and use the corner. If you really flip positions all night I’d probably try one from a place with easy returns first.

in reply to: Does the Glokore Filtered Showerhead fit standard shower arms? #10613

I ran into something similar when I moved into my current place and the one thing I’d actually check first is whether your shower arm has that little ball joint or a weird angled bend near the wall. Mine looked standard at a glance but it had a slight curve right before the threads, and that threw off how the Glokore sat once I screwed it on. Not a thread issue at all, it went on fine, but the head ended up tilted at a weird angle and kept dribbling toward the back of the tub. I ended up just rotating the arm itself a bit and it was fine after that. So if yours is a straight fixed arm you’re probably good, but if there’s any curve or flex in it, that’s the part I’d look at before ordering. Took me a couple minutes to sort out once I figured out what was happening.

The box definitely doesn’t include anything, which caught me off guard too. I actually kept the little cardboard insert it came wrapped in for a while just so the lenses wouldn’t rub against stuff in my glovebox. Kind of wish they’d at least thrown in a microfiber pouch, but I guess it’s not a dealbreaker for me.

I think the part people don’t talk about enough is how much less noise it makes compared to the metal blade. Not that it’s quiet exactly, but it’s not that same loud clatter when you hit a rock or a fence post. I swapped mine out mainly for that reason and I’ve been happy with it for the regular yard stuff. It just feels a bit less violent to run.

I’ve had mine since the spring and I mostly keep them paired to my laptop for work, then just tap them onto my phone when I head out. It’s not instant, but I haven’t had to sit there forgetting devices or anything. The handoff is smooth enough that I stopped thinking about it after the first week.

in reply to: AerioQ wall mount okay for a room that gets afternoon sun? #10072

I’d say the wall mount actually helps a bit in that situation since it gets the airflow higher up where the heat collects, rather than just pushing warm air around at floor level. Mine goes in around 2pm when the room starts cooking and it does take the edge off, but I also keep the blinds mostly shut. If you’re expecting it to fully fix a blazing afternoon room, you’ll probably be disappointed.

I’ve run mine half full plenty of times when I’m just topping it off from a water bottle and don’t want to make a second trip. Cooling still feels the same to me, but I definitely notice the misting effect gets weaker as the level drops. I just treat the 8 hour mark as a full tank thing and don’t think twice about it.

in reply to: Does the MozzDefense light barrier actually work on all mosquitoes? #9887

I think the biggest clue is that you’re using it as a camping light and it works fine for that. The bug stuff is more of a “stay close to the glow” kind of deal in my experience. Once you’re past the light pool, you’re basically on your own against the mosquitoes.

That’s just what high intensity feels like, mine does the same thing and it’s never caused any issues.

The wooden bench is actually the one thing I’ve used mine on most, and the paint held up fine. I think the key is that you’re not holding it still over one spot, so it never really digs in. I did notice it can leave a slightly lighter patch if you’re too close, but that was more on an old weathered section than anything else.

I think a lot of it comes down to how often you fly. If you’re taking it out every weekend, you get into a rhythm where you can basically do it without thinking. I’ve had mine for a few months now and the actual physical part is just unfold, pop the battery in, and you’re most of the way there.

The phone connection is the only bit that ever makes me pause. Sometimes the app just takes a second to find it, and I’ve learned not to rush that step. If I try to skip ahead it gets grumpy, but if I just wait a few extra seconds it connects fine. Once that’s done, I’m in the air pretty fast.

I wouldn’t say I’ve ever timed it, but it’s not the kind of thing where I’m sitting there getting frustrated. It’s more like a quick little routine. I don’t think you’ll be staring at a screen for ages before every flight unless something’s wrong.

I remember when I got mine, I was so excited to unbox it that I didn’t even think about storage until I was holding it in my hands. Then I realized I had nothing to put in the slot and just sat there staring at the empty battery compartment like an idiot. I ended up having to wait an extra couple of days before I could actually test it out, which was pretty anticlimactic.

So yeah, I would say just grab one beforehand. It’s one of those things where you’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. I know some people say you can just use your phone to control it and preview stuff, but that doesn’t help you actually save any footage.

My advice is to not go crazy with the biggest card you can find either. I picked up a mid-sized one because I figured I’d just transfer stuff to my laptop after each trip anyway. It works fine for me since I mostly use it for weekend hikes and the occasional beach day, not like filming hours of continuous footage every single time.

You’ll probably be fine either way, but having a card ready to go means you can mess around with all the settings and mounting options the moment it arrives instead of waiting around. That’s the part that was actually fun for me, just trying different angles and seeing what the quality looked like in my own backyard before taking it anywhere interesting.

I mean, it kind of depends on what you’re used to feeling. The airflow is definitely softer, like a wide gentle push instead of that hard jet of air. I find it more comfortable honestly, but I can see how someone would think it’s weaker. It’s just a different kind of air movement.

in reply to: Earscribe in loud places, does the noise reduction help? #8651

I can see why you’d be curious about that. I’ve used mine in a couple of loud spots and it does cut down the background hum, but it’s not like the noise just disappears. As long as I’m not trying to talk over a sudden crash or someone shouting right next to me, it picks me up fine. I think you’ll be okay at an airport cafe.

We have this exact situation at home actually. My husband and I are barely a kilo apart most mornings and the scale has never once put my weigh-in under his name. I don’t know how it decides, but it hasn’t messed up once in the few months we’ve had it. I just make sure we each step on around the same time every day so the app has a consistent pattern to go off.

Good to see so many replies on this. Sounds like I was overthinking the whole thing, the size of my room really isn’t the issue here. I’ll just get one and see how it goes for a few nights. If it keeps me from tossing and turning, that’s all I need.

in reply to: Is Dustaclean’s HEPA filter actually doing anything? #7072
    Claire Woods

I think people sometimes expect HEPA on a tiny handheld to perform like a full-size machine and that’s just not how it works. This thing is for grabbing the visible stuff quickly, not for replacing your regular vacuum. I’ve had mine for a while and I never really expected it to catch every microscopic particle. The filter clogging is annoying, sure, but I just knock it out over the trash can and move on. If you’re seeing actual dust blowing back out while you’re using it, that’s one thing, but if it’s just leftover dust in the air after you finish, that’s probably just normal for a small unit. I keep mine in the kitchen for crumbs and it does exactly what I need it to do. It’s not a miracle worker, it’s just a convenient little cleaner.

I actually haven’t had that issue with mine, and I’ve had them for about two months now. The app connects pretty much right away for me, usually before I even get the earbuds fully in my ears. I’m on an Android phone though, so maybe that makes a difference? I’ve seen a few people mention iPhone quirks with these things.

One thing I have noticed is that if I leave the app open in the background for a really long time without using it, it can get a bit confused when I come back. But closing it and reopening it always fixes it in like five seconds, so I never really thought much of it.

Maybe try forgetting the device in your Bluetooth settings and pairing them fresh? That cleared up a weird hiccup I had with mine where only one earbud would connect. Hasn’t come back since.

I’ve got one in a room that gets hammered by afternoon sun and it handles it fine for me. The remote is nice for bedtime adjustments, but I wouldn’t call it whisper quiet on higher settings. Still works well enough that I don’t regret it.

I’ve seen a few people mention the size issue and honestly I think it depends a lot on how you hold them. I’ve got pretty average hands and they feel fine to me, but I could see someone with really big palms finding them a bit cramped after an hour or so.

I kind of like that it’s subtle, actually. If it was really hot I’d probably get uncomfortable lying on it for a full session.
