I figured the remote was a gimmick when I got the unit. Like most of these things, you pay for the wireless feature and then you just end up walking over to the unit anyway. For the first couple weeks I didn’t even keep the remote near me. It sat on the shelf next to the CoolCove and I used the touchscreen because that’s what was right there.
Then winter hit and I started keeping the remote on my nightstand so I could bump the heat in the morning without getting out from under the covers. That’s when it actually earned its spot. It reaches from my bed to the unit on the other side of the room no problem, and that’s really all I need it for now.
As for the whole through walls thing, my take is people expect too much. It’s a small remote on a portable unit, not some whole home system. I tried it once from the next room over, got nothing, shrugged, and moved on. It didn’t make me think the product was broken. It just confirmed what it is. A remote for the room the thing is sitting in.
If you want to adjust from the living room, get up and do it. Otherwise you’re going to be standing in the hallway pointing a remote at a wall and feeling dumb.
Night shift here so my sleep schedule is already weird. The fan noise on mine is steady enough that I stopped hearing it after a week or two. Whether it beats your need for total silence, no clue, that part is on you.
Socks are fine. I’ve used mine with thick wool socks all winter and it still does whatever it does. The cord is the real annoyance, not the socks.
It’s not going to match a heating pad, and I think that’s intentional. After a week of using it, I found the warmth is more like background comfort than deep heat therapy.
The five minute lag thing usually comes down to how often the collar pings the GPS and whether it has a decent cell signal where you are. My old one was the same way, it would only check in every couple minutes and if the dog was already moving fast, the alert was basically useless.
I’ve had the Zindoggo for a few months now. The alert itself comes through fast enough that the dog hasn’t gotten far. I wouldn’t say it’s literally instant, but it’s more like a normal notification delay. The bigger thing I noticed is the app has to be open or at least running in the background on your phone. If you kill the app completely, that’s when you miss stuff and start wondering where the dog went.
Also, the coverage where you are matters. If your yard is in a dead zone, no collar is going to save you. I wouldn’t expect it to be perfect, but it’s definitely a step up from waiting around for minutes.
Mine sits near the hallway baseboard, which is close enough to where the cat eats. She’s a jumper, so I was more worried about her batting it off the shelf than the actual zap. That thing is cordless and light, so it wouldn’t take much for a determined pet to knock it over. I ended up placing it on a higher shelf out of jumping range, not because of the light or noise, but just so it wouldn’t become a toy. The zapping sound does get their attention for a second, but neither of mine has ever tried to sniff the grid or stare at the light. I’d say the bigger risk is the unit itself getting knocked around, so find a spot where your dog can’t easily reach it and you should be fine.
First flight took a bit longer because I had to update something in the app before it would pair. After that, it’s just unfold, turn everything on, and go. Maybe two or three minutes if I’m not rushing. The phone connection is the only step that can slow you down if the app decides to act up.
The stress metric is basically just HRV with a fancy name. If you sit still and your breathing slows down, it often reads as “calm” even when your brain is going a mile a minute. I stopped treating it as a mood meter and started looking at it as a physical recovery gauge instead. Completely different thing.
Mine felt like it traded force for reach. The old tower fan had that concentrated blast you could feel across the room, while this spreads it out thinner. If you sit close, it’s fine. If you expect it to cool the whole room like the old one, you’ll be disappointed.
The auto-recognition is basically comparing last known weight and sometimes body metrics to guess who’s on it. If you two are that close, it’s going to be a gamble every morning. I’d just check the app after stepping off and correct it manually if it’s wrong, otherwise you’ll end up with mixed data in your history.
I use mine mostly for looking around too, never bothered with a card for the first couple weeks. Screen works fine without one, it’s only when you hit the shutter button that it reminds you there’s nowhere to save anything. For just walking around in the dark you’re good.
Battery loss after a few months is just physics, not a defect. I’m at the point where I don’t even track it anymore, I just toss it on the charger when the low light blinks. Honestly, as long as I get a few sessions out of a charge I’m fine with it. I’d rather have the compact size than a battery brick that lasts three weeks.
The auto shutoff is the main reason I’d pay extra, but not for the safety angle. My dumb timer just clicked on and off at set times, no way to change it without walking over. Being able to run it for 15 minutes and have it kill itself is the only reason I remember to use it at all.
Redundant in the sense that the holder already does the job for the passport itself. But if you ever pull the passport out and set it down somewhere, the card is doing nothing for it. Pick one spot to keep the Guardality and just leave it there.
Mine’s about ten feet from the nearest window and it still grabs the major networks fine. The window thing gets way more attention than it deserves. I’d say just try it in the spot you want first, moving it around is cheap to test.
The “no pulling” claim is marketing fluff as far as I’m concerned. It pulled on mine a few times, but it was only when I had let things go too long between trims. If you stay on top of it, it’s fine. If you expect a miracle for thick hair that hasn’t been touched in weeks, you’ll be disappointed. It’s a decent tool, just don’t set your expectations too high.
The whole “plug it near the breaker box” thing sounds like the manual covering its ass more than a real requirement. I’d just put it wherever you actually remember it exists and won’t trip over it. If it’s going to do anything, it’s going to do it through the wiring anyway, so I wouldn’t rearrange my garage for it.
If the card is making good contact and doesn’t fall out on its own, I’d just leave it alone. Fiddling with it could make things worse. I’ve got a couple other cheap devices where the slot feels similar and they’ve been recording fine for months. Seems like a common thing with budget gear, not really a defect.
Slippery is kind of the point with these metal boards, isnt it? The non-porous thing cuts both ways. I wouldnt expect it to get grippier with age, its not like plastic that wears down. Just rinse the chicken off and pat it dry before you start chopping.
