That low hum is just what you get with a fan running, so I’d call it normal. Mine does the same thing and I stopped noticing it after the first week or so. The quiet is nice with a rack, but I’ll take the hum if it means my stuff is dry the same day.
Thanks for all the input, sounds like this is just kind of a suction cup thing in general. I’m gonna try a couple of the suggestions here before I move it to the other car. If it still bugs me later I’ll deal with it then, but for now I’m not gonna stress over a faint ring. Appreciate everyone chiming in.
The part that actually matters to me is the app situation, and I checked that pretty carefully before buying because I feel the same way about being nickel and dimed every month. What I found is that the app itself is free once you have the earbuds, and the translation runs on that same one time setup. No tiers, no premium unlock for the good languages, nothing like that. I messed around with it for a couple weeks testing different language pairs just to see if some hidden paywall would pop up and it never did. The only popups I ever get are update reminders, which are just normal app housekeeping. So the marketing claim holds up in my experience. Whether the translation quality itself is worth it is a totally different conversation, but the subscription side is genuinely not a thing here.
With socks, the mat still seems to do its thing in my experience. I keep mine right under my chair and just rest my feet on it out of habit now, socks and all.
I think the distance thing is the part that trips people up. I would say expecting it to handle the whole area is asking too much, it seems more like a local thing. I have had the same experience where the zone right around the light is fine but I still get bothered if I wander off to the edge of the camp. It is a decent light, but I would not rely on it as my only protection.
I actually like mine for the opposite reason, I don’t want to wait around for my old heater to get going when I first sit down at my desk. The CoolCove gets warm pretty much right away, which is nice when I’m coming in from the cold. It’s not the same cozy all-over warmth the radiator gave me, but I found I didn’t really miss it once I got used to it.
Touch controls are honestly the one thing I use when I’m wearing them at my desk or in the car. Voice feels weird when other people are around, so I’ve gotten into the habit of just tapping to pause or skip. It took me a few days to remember they existed too, but now it’s automatic.
I think some of it comes down to how the file sits in the groove on each tooth. I noticed mine looks worse when I let the tool drift toward the end of the stroke, so now I just focus on keeping the same pressure the whole way through. It isn’t perfect but it’s close enough that I stopped squinting at it.
I think at that price point you’re better off just grabbing it and seeing if you like it on your own TV. Upscaling is upscaling, but the convenience of plugging it in and having everything ready to go is the real selling point. If you already have a nice setup for retro stuff, maybe skip it, but for a casual “I just want to play some old games tonight” thing, it does the job.

I’ve got vaulted ceilings in my family room and honestly the CoolCove does fine for me, but I think it depends on what you’re expecting from it. I’m not trying to heat the whole volume of air up near the ceiling. I just want the spot where I’m actually sitting to feel comfortable, and it does that. I keep mine on a side table aimed kind of toward the couch rather than mounting it high, and that seems to make a big difference.
The square footage claims probably assume a normal ceiling, sure. But if you’re using it as a supplemental unit and not your only source of heat or cool, I think you’ll be alright. I’ve had mine for a few months now through some chilly evenings and it keeps the seating area cozy. It’s not gonna blast warm air all the way up to the top of the room, but that’s not really what I need it for.
I’d say go for it if you’re okay with it working at body level instead of room level.
I have to disagree with the general vibe here. I got mine for the translation stuff too, but I actually found the call quality to be a bit worse than my old basic earbuds. People on the other end kept saying I sounded like I was in a tunnel, which never happened before. I’m not saying they’re terrible, but I wouldn’t switch if calls are your main thing.
I actually had a slightly different experience with mine on the oven glass. It cleaned fine, no argument there, but I noticed if I wasn’t moving it around enough, it left those little water spots that dried into streaks. Took a bit of extra buffing with a dry cloth to get it looking clear again. Not a big deal, but the glass on the oven door seems to show that more than the countertops or bathroom tiles do.

I got mine and honestly I didn’t even think to check for extras until I saw this thread, so I dug through my drawer and there was one spare tip tucked in the bottom of the box that I completely missed. Glad I didn’t order backups yet.
I’ve had one on the living room TV for about six months now and the adhesive is still holding up fine. That TV runs most of the day, honestly, so it’s not like it gets a break. I was a little worried about the heat thing too since the back of the TV does get warm, but mine hasn’t peeled or curled at the edges or anything like that. It’s just kind of stuck there.
One thing I didn’t think about before putting it on is that it’s basically invisible once it’s on the back. Like, I forget it’s even there half the time. I check it every now and then when I’m dusting behind the TV and it hasn’t moved at all. The only thing I’d mention is that if you ever have to move the TV or wall mount it, it might be worth sticking it somewhere that doesn’t get bumped by cables or brackets. That’s probably what would mess with it more than heat.

I’ve used the live preview a handful of times just to frame stuff and it worked well enough for me. I usually just turn it on to check the angle before I start recording, then turn it off to save battery. Honestly, I don’t think it’s meant for staring at the whole time, but for a quick peek it does the job.
I’d probably just use it as a basic pronunciation helper and not overthink it. The listen and repeat part seems straightforward enough for getting the gist of a phrase. I’m not totally sure how picky it is with accents, but for travel prep it should be fine.
I think a lot of it just depends on the person. The included tips are fine for casual walking or lifting for me, but I wouldn’t trust them completely during a full sprint or anything too bouncy. They haven’t fallen out yet, but I definitely adjust them more than I’d like.
