Desk placement isn’t my thing, I’d rather have it up on the wall out of the way. It takes up space sitting on a surface and I like keeping my desk clear. Mine’s been mounted since day one and I’ve never felt the need to try it any other way.
Mine only works if I crack the door open a bit, which kind of defeats the whole point of being in another room. I just set the timer now and walk out before it kicks on.
The whole “it’s just a personal heater” thing kind of bugs me. If it’s sitting in a cold office, why does it matter whether it warms the whole room or just you? That’s the actual point of the thing. I’ve seen people get caught up in whether these raise the room temp by a few degrees and miss the fact that they’re not trying to heat a living room. For an office you’re sitting in for hours, having warm air hitting you directly is honestly what you want. I don’t think that makes it a gimmick, it just means you use it differently than a normal space heater. Some folks seem to expect it to work like a radiator and then act surprised when it doesn’t. Different tool, different job, that’s all.
I pretty much leave mine alone for one on one talking. The modes seem to matter more when there’s actual background noise, not just two people in a quiet room. I do tap the volume up sometimes if someone speaks softly, but that’s about it.
I got one a few months back and I still flip between positions all night. It’s decent but I wouldn’t say it magically fits every way you sleep. For the price I expected more honestly. It’s just a pillow at the end of the day.
I’m the opposite of the “leave it alone” crowd. I actually prefer to dial in the jaw position early because for me the fit feeling and the jaw position are kind of tied together. If the lower jaw isn’t sitting where it wants to sit, no amount of getting used to the mouthpiece is going to fix that weird strained feeling. I started nudging mine after maybe four or five nights, small moves, and it felt better almost right away. Not saying everyone should rush it, but my own preference is to get it close sooner rather than walk around for weeks with my jaw in a spot that doesn’t work for me. A week in seems like a fair point to at least try a small change and see how the next few nights go.
I just hold the handle with one hand and flip the head with the other while it’s spinning. Takes a second and the click is pretty obvious when it locks in. Been doing it that way for a few weeks now and it hasn’t caused any issues.
I get a full two days out of mine in motion detect mode but I also have it set to a lower sensitivity and it’s pointed at a hallway that doesn’t get much action. If I turn the sensitivity up it drops to maybe a day. So it really just depends on how much it’s actually triggering.
It’s funny you mention that, because I had the exact opposite reaction when I first got mine. I was actually expecting it to feel a little weird after washing, but mine just feels normal right away, even if I dry it with a towel. I never really got that tacky stage with it.
Could it be something with your water maybe? I know some people in my area have pretty hard water and it leaves a film on stuff even after you wipe it down. That might be what you’re feeling rather than the board itself. I’d try wiping it with a bit of vinegar next time just to see if that changes anything, because if it does, it’s probably not the Vanotium at all.
I’d play it safe with a proper headlight kit honestly. NuraFix might do okay on the surface but headlights take way more abuse than a bumper scuff, especially UV and heat. I tried a similar spray on mine once and it looked fine for a couple weeks then the haze came right back.
I’ve had mine on carpet since day one and never really thought about it. It doesn’t slide for me, but I also don’t move around much while using it. If you’re a fidgety person, might be a different story.
It works if your stains are still fresh-ish. I caught mine before they got too dark and it keeps them from building up again. Not a whitening thing, just a scrub that actually gets the daily coffee junk off. I use it a few nights a week and it does the job for me.
The rolling around part I can actually speak to because I toss a lot, like full on switching sides multiple times a night. I was pretty sure I’d wake up to this thing on my pillow somewhere, but it never happened. It stays locked in there.
The jaw thing though, that’s what got me for the first week or so. Felt like my bite was off during the day, which was a weird feeling. I’d catch myself clenching a bit. That went away though once I got used to it. I think my mouth just needed to figure out how to relax around it.
I did have to re-mold mine once after a couple weeks because the first fit felt too loose when I opened my mouth wide, but after that it was solid. Just make sure you follow the molding instructions properly and don’t rush it. That’s probably the biggest factor in whether it slips or not.
Mine had a noticeable scent before I ever opened them, but it was definitely stronger once I tore the pouch. The weird thing is, the scent changed a bit after a week or so. It started off fairly strong and then settled into something more mellow, so if you’re expecting that initial punch the whole time, you might think they stopped working. They didn’t, I just had to get closer to the pouch to smell it.
Garage is probably a good spot for them since it’s not a huge open living area. I’d just make sure you’re putting them where rodents actually travel, not just in the middle of the floor where the scent has to travel further. I think people expect these things to fill a whole room and that’s not really how it works. The scent is there, it’s just not going to hit you from across the space.
I feel like the accuracy mostly depends on your yard and how the GPS is feeling that day. Mine has given me a couple of false alarms when he was just standing near the edge, but it also caught him slipping out the back gate pretty quick. It’s not laser precise, but it does the job for keeping tabs on him.
I tried the bucket thing once and it just kept cutting out on me. Maybe my bucket was too small or I didn’t have the hose deep enough, but it got annoying real fast. I ended up just sticking to the faucet since that’s what works for me.
Cafe noise is where mine gets a bit messy too. I don’t think any of these glasses are magic in that situation. I’ve had decent luck when I face the person and speak a little slower, but it’s definitely not something I’d rely on for a super important conversation.
I had a similar worry when my dog was around 4 months old. I started using one of these ultrasonic devices because she would lose it over sounds outside, like people walking by or cars. I figured the earlier I got a handle on it, the easier it’d be later.
Looking back, I think it was fine, but I didn’t use it constantly. I kept it for the specific moments when she was really winding up, not for every little grumble or yip. She did seem to get the hint after a few weeks, but honestly I think she would’ve mellowed out anyway as she got older and got used to the neighborhood noises.
The thing that made me stop using it with her was realizing she started connecting the sound with me being around, not with her barking. Like she’d stop when I was in the room, but if I was in another room she’d keep going. That was on me though, I probably wasn’t using it at the right moments.
I don’t think it messed her up or made her scared or anything. She’s still a confident little thing. I’d just say keep an eye on how your pup reacts to it. If they seem startled or confused, maybe give it a break for a few weeks and try again later. They grow out of a lot of that noise sensitivity pretty fast anyway, at least mine did.
I’ve had mine for about a month and they’re still pretty touchy. If I brush against them while taking my bag off, they pause or skip. It’s not a dealbreaker for me, but I don’t think it ever fully goes away either.
Honestly, fit is one of those things you probably won’t notice until you actually need it. As long as you’re pressing it down to create the seal, I can’t imagine it being a problem unless someone has an extremely tiny head.
I just leave mine on the floor in the corner and it does the job in my small office. No weird spots or anything, I think the air gets around fine. If anything, it kicks on and off a lot since the room gets to temp pretty quick. That doesn’t bother me though.
I noticed mine was a little slick the first couple times I used it too, but once you get into the rhythm of cutting it’s not something I really think about anymore. I honestly like that it’s so easy to rinse off after dealing with raw meat.
