I’ve had my Vanotium for a few weeks now and I like it overall, but I noticed something odd. After I rinse it with water and just wipe it, it feels a bit tacky until it fully dries. Not wet, just kind of sticky. Is that normal for this type of surface, or am I doing something wrong?

Mine does the same thing. I think it’s just the surface reacting to tap water, especially if you’re in an area with harder water. Once it’s completely dry it goes back to normal, so I never really worried about it. I wouldn’t call it sticky in a bad way, just a little grippy for a minute.

That tacky feeling has never really bothered me because it disappears once the board dries. I usually just leave mine propped up for a couple of minutes after cleaning and it’s fine. I would not call it a flaw, just part of the surface being what it is.

It’s the water, not the board. Mine does the exact same thing if I rinse it and pat it dry instead of letting it air out. I switched to just wiping it down with a damp cloth and drying it right away, and that cut down on the tacky feeling a lot. It goes away completely once it’s dry, so I wouldn’t call it a problem.

I haven’t noticed it being sticky exactly, more like it grabs a little if I wipe it and use it right away. But I always figured that’s just how the surface behaves when it’s not fully dry yet. If it bothers you, maybe just give it a minute before you start chopping and see if that changes anything for you.

What I started doing is rinsing it right after I finish prepping and then leaving it in the drying rack while I plate or do whatever else. By the time I come back to put it away it’s dry and not sticky at all. It hasn’t affected anything I’ve cut on it and I honestly forget about it now. I’d say it’s just one of those quirks with the material.

Mine does that too but I mostly notice it if I rinse and dry it with a towel instead of just letting it sit. Once it air dries for a couple minutes it feels normal again. I wouldn’t call it a problem, just a quirk of the surface.

That would kind of annoy me too if I was in a hurry. I usually just leave mine out on the drying rack after rinsing and by the time I get back to it, it feels totally normal. If I need it right away, I just pat it dry and deal with it for a few seconds, it doesn’t really affect anything while I’m using it.

It’s just the surface chemistry doing its thing. Mine feels slightly tacky right after a rinse too, but it’s gone within a couple of minutes. I wouldn’t call it a flaw, it’s more like the coating needs a second to fully shed the water film.

I just don’t rinse mine anymore unless I’m cleaning it after meat. For everyday use I wipe it down with a damp cloth and that seems to avoid the tacky feeling altogether. The stickiness never bothered me much though since it disappears pretty fast.

I actually kind of like that tacky feeling because it tells me the surface is still drying and I should probably leave it alone for a sec. It goes away pretty fast in my experience, like within a few minutes if you just let it sit. I think it might just be the water interacting with the coating or whatever, not really a flaw.

What I noticed is that it doesn’t really happen if I pat it dry with a paper towel and then let it finish air drying. The tackiness mostly shows up when there’s still a thin layer of moisture left that you can’t see. I’ve had mine for about two months now and it hasn’t changed or gotten worse, so I stopped thinking about it. It never affected how the board actually performs when I use it, so I just rinse, give it a quick wipe, and move on with my day.

It’s funny you mention that, because I had the exact opposite reaction when I first got mine. I was actually expecting it to feel a little weird after washing, but mine just feels normal right away, even if I dry it with a towel. I never really got that tacky stage with it.

Could it be something with your water maybe? I know some people in my area have pretty hard water and it leaves a film on stuff even after you wipe it down. That might be what you’re feeling rather than the board itself. I’d try wiping it with a bit of vinegar next time just to see if that changes anything, because if it does, it’s probably not the Vanotium at all.

I mean, if you’re drying it with anything, that’s probably what you’re feeling. I stopped bothering with a towel and just leave mine on the counter for a minute. Takes no time to be dry and then there’s no weird tackiness left behind.

The tacky feeling disappears once it’s fully dry, so I’ve never really thought of it as a problem. Mine does the exact same thing and I just treat it as the board still being wet. I wouldn’t change how you’re cleaning it just because of that.
