Counter might be fine if it’s far enough from the actual sink area. I’ve had mine on a little side shelf in the bathroom for a few months now and it’s been fine, though I do keep it away from where water actually splashes. Just make sure the cord isn’t dangling somewhere it could get pulled.
I wouldn’t count on it holding a charge for weeks. Mine sat for maybe ten days and was dead when I went to use it. I just charge mine the morning of now.
I’d just check the manual that comes with it once you buy, since that’s usually where the actual coverage details hide. Some of these brands list a short warranty in there but never bother putting it on the site. If it’s not in writing anywhere, I’d treat it like there isn’t one.
I stopped checking mine daily because a single low number would stick in my head all day. Now I only look at it if I already feel off, and that works better for me.
If it were me, I’d just grab a decent power bank and try it before assuming anything. Mine runs off a small one I already had, no wall plug involved. If it doesn’t power on with what you’ve got, then you know.
I actually kept my cat’s spot totally untouched and put the new dog’s bed on the opposite side of the room. That worked way better than moving anything around. She still uses her sunny spot and mostly ignores him.
I mostly go by feel and sound rather than some setting chart. On glass I switch to the finer tip since it bites less, but on metal I honestly don’t change much besides going slower. The manual being thin on this stuff is pretty normal for these pens.
I’ve used mine on the car windows a couple of times and the thing I noticed is that the water source matters more than the pressure setting. When I had it hooked to a bucket, it was fine, no streaks really, but when I tried the self suction from a nearby rain barrel the flow was a bit uneven and that’s when I got some spotting. So if you’re using a bucket like you already do, the lower setting should be okay. I didn’t scratch anything, but I also kept the nozzle a good distance back and didn’t sit in one spot. It’s not going to replace a squeegee for the final pass though. I still went over mine with one after. If you’re already set up with the bucket and sponge, it’s not a huge extra step to grab it for the glass.
Low pressure definitely kills it. Ours barely did anything until we swapped the old hose out, now it actually sprays with some force. Not pressure washer level but enough for light patio stuff.
Good to know it’s not just me wondering about this. Mines only a few months old so I’ll just keep using it until something actually feels off. Appreciate the replies.
My sister has this bottle and she almost never fills it past the middle. She’s been using it that way since around the holidays and hasn’t had any issues with smell or slime, so from what I’ve seen it does its thing with less water in there. I borrowed it for a weekend trip once and did the same thing, just partial fills, and it was fine. I don’t think the light cares much about the water level as long as it’s hitting the surfaces inside. If anything I’d guess more water might actually block the light from reaching the upper parts, but that’s just me thinking out loud. She did notice once that when she left it sitting with just a tiny splash at the bottom for like two days, it started smelling a little off, but she refilled it and ran a cycle and it cleared up. So my take is half full is totally fine, just don’t leave it nearly empty for long stretches. That seems to be the only time it struggles. Not sure if that’s the UV or just normal bottle gunk though.
I switched to the GrillWizz mainly because I got tired of the arm workout with my old brush, and the scratches on my grates were already there from years of scraping. Mine are just basic cast iron, nothing fancy, and I’ve been using the Wizz on them for about two months now, usually on the medium setting. I honestly can’t tell that it’s added any new scratches. If anything, the grates look a little smoother in the spots where I use it regularly, probably because it’s lifting off the baked-on stuff instead of grinding it in. I don’t press down hard though, the motor does the work so I just guide it along. I figure if your grates are already scratched up from a wire brush, a little more isn’t going to change much anyway. But that’s just been my experience with mine.
Mine sat in a strip for a few months before I moved it to the wall, and nothing changed either way. The strip was just more convenient for where my outlet is. I never noticed a difference in how it ran.
Mine mostly sits in a drawer unless I tweak something lifting boxes at work. When that happens I’ll use it a couple evenings in a row and then forget about it for a week. It’s more of a react-to-a-flare-up thing for me than a routine.
I’ve used them in a parked car, not an RV, and after a couple weeks in the sun the scent was pretty much gone. In summer I’d swap them sooner than the label says.
I have one and mine lasts a bit longer than that, but it depends on how much heat I’m using. The heat setting eats the battery way faster than just the vibration part. If I leave heat on the whole 12 minutes I get maybe 4 sessions tops before the light starts blinking at me. If I skip heat and just do vibration I can stretch it out more.
The thing that actually bugs me is there’s no warning before it just shuts off. It’ll be going fine and then dead. So if you’re planning to use it away from an outlet all day that could be annoying. For me it lives on my desk at home so I just charge it when I think about it and it’s fine. I wouldn’t count on it lasting a full workday if you’re using it a lot though.
The two-way mode is the part I’d actually trust for that. I’ve used mine for short back and forth with my in-laws and it handled normal conversation way better than I expected, not just set phrases. The app does need to be open on your phone though, so plan on having it out.
I actually unplug mine when I’m not using it, and the cord has stayed in better shape than the first one I left plugged in all the time. Not sure if that’s the reason or just luck.
Mine didn’t work out for sleep at all. I had it running a few feet from the bed and that low whirr turned into something I kept waiting to stop. After two nights I moved it back to the living room.
I’d probably just try folding a small towel under the pillow for a couple nights to see if the extra bit of height helps your shoulder. If it still feels off after that, I’d look at whether the pillow is just too soft for side sleeping.
I gave up on using it from another room pretty fast. Mine only responds if I’m basically at the doorway with the remote pointed toward the unit, so I just use the timer instead. Not a big deal.
I’ve had mine since spring and the adjustment does actually change the spray a decent amount, more than I expected from a hose nozzle. It won’t strip old paint or anything, but there’s a real difference between the softest and hardest setting when I’m rinsing off the car versus hosing down the driveway. So it’s not just a fancy label in my book.
I’d keep expectations low for full movies. Music and calls are where these things actually shine, and translation is more of a bonus feature than a subtitle replacement. The app also eats battery faster when it’s translating, so a two hour film might not even finish.
I kind of disagree with the idea that a plain pick does the same job if you’re just patient with it. I used one of those drugstore picks for years and patience wasn’t the problem, my hand would cramp up after a few minutes of scraping the same spots near my gumline. Switched to a vibrating one last spring and the motion does a lot of the work for you, so I can actually get through both sides of my mouth without my fingers aching. It’s not that it magically dissolves everything, I still go over the stubborn bits, but the pressing is way less. That alone made it worth it for me. If someone’s fine with the elbow grease then sure, save your money, but I wouldn’t call the vibration just a gimmick either.
I let the subscription lapse for about two months and barely missed it. The clips still came through fine, I just had to figure out the birds myself. If naming them isn’t a big deal to you, skip it.
I just use the water from my Brita pitcher since it’s already sitting there. The manual does say distilled but I figure filtered is close enough, and in the few months I’ve had it I haven’t seen anything crusty yet.
I have one on my earbud case and honestly forgot it was even there until this thread. It’s stayed put for about a month with daily pocket use, no lifting so far. Fits fine on the flat side.
It may just take a bit of practice. I will say that on my bathroom mirror it was pretty much fine, but I’ve found the larger the glass surface, the more likely I am to see a faint film afterwards. I just keep a cloth nearby when I use it on anything big.
I think people overcomplicate this one. The UV bulb is doing its thing regardless of the regular light in the room. Sunlight isn’t going to cancel it out or make it weaker.
The only reason I’d shut curtains is to keep from accidentally walking in while it’s running, since you can’t really see the glow as well in a bright room. But that’s a safety thing, not an effectiveness thing. You’re fine running it whenever works for you.
