I’d just plug it in when I actually hear or see activity and leave it unplugged otherwise. That’s what I do with mine and it hasn’t changed anything for me. If nights are your problem, running it just at night makes more sense anyway.
I think the manual is being straight with you that tabletop is an option, but I’d pay more attention to where you put it than whether it technically “works.” I’ve had mine sitting on a dresser for a few months and it does blow air fine in that position. The air still reaches where I need it, and I haven’t had any issue with it just refusing to function or anything like that.
My one thing is that where it sits kind of matters more than I expected. I had it on a low side table at first and it felt like half the air was just bouncing off the furniture or getting blocked. Once I moved it higher, closer to where I actually sit, it felt way more effective. So if you’re doing tabletop, I’d think about the height and whether there’s anything in front of it.
Also the cable is pretty short, which is the part nobody really mentions. If your outlet isn’t close to your desk or shelf, that might decide where it ends up more than anything else.
I don’t think you need to mount it for it to do its job. Mounting probably just keeps it out of the way and aimed better. For a desk setup, it should be fine as long as you’re not expecting it to throw air across a whole room from a low spot.
Mine lasted about a week and a half in the garage before I could barely smell anything. I remember checking it around day ten and thinking it was already done. The package said 2 to 4 weeks so I figured I had more time, but nope.
I think the garage just eats them faster than other spots. I had one in a closet inside the house that hung in there for close to three weeks, so it’s not like the product is bad, it’s just that the garage is a different beast. Maybe it’s the temperature swings or the fact that the door opens and closes all day. Not sure exactly, but that’s what I noticed.
Three weeks sounds about right for a garage honestly. Once the scent fades I don’t think it’s doing much of anything anymore, since that smell is the whole point. I usually just swap mine out when I stop smelling it, even if the calendar says it should still be good. No point leaving a dead pouch sitting there.
I still like them for what they are though. They’re cheap and easy and I haven’t seen any mice since I started using them, so I’ll keep buying. Just don’t expect the full four weeks if it’s sitting in a hot or drafty garage.
Old school lantern still wins for me. The light on these combo things is okay but I never found it great for reading, kinda dim once it’s hanging up in a tent. I’d keep the lantern and grab a cheap mosquito coil separately.
Socks are a non issue, but the cord absolutely gets in the way if you just drape it wherever. I ran mine along the baseboard and taped the slack down, and now I never notice it. Took me a couple weeks of kicking it around first to bother doing that though.
The one thing I’d actually think about before buying is how often you want to pull the thing out to charge it. I’ve got mine in a wallet that isn’t crazy packed, maybe five or six cards, and the thickness itself wasn’t the problem. It’s more that the battery thing means eventually you’re digging it out of that tight slot to charge it, and if your wallet is already a pain to deal with, that gets old fast. Signal-wise I haven’t had any weirdness with cards sitting against it, so I don’t think that’s the part to stress over. Mine’s been in there a few months and it still pings fine when I use Find My. So yeah, for the signal question I’d say you’re fine. Just picture yourself fishing it out every so often and decide if that sounds annoying or not.
I think it might just come down to where you wear them or how they fit. I’ve noticed mine pick up more noise when they’re not seated snugly in my ears. Haven’t found any mic setting in the app that changes it either, so I just try to talk a bit closer to the phone when I’m outside.
I usually just leave mine wherever I first put them and let the session run its course. The weird tingle fades after a couple minutes for me, so if it starts feeling off I lower the intensity instead of relocating the pads.
I actually keep mine closer to where I’m sitting, not near the window at all. The draft is annoying but the heater does a better job keeping me warm if it’s not fighting the cold air coming in. I tried the window spot once and felt like the warmth was getting sucked right out.
I went through the same thing when I got mine. I assumed since it came with the waterproof case and all those mounts that they’d toss in a card too. Nope. I had to wait two days for one to show up before I could actually try it out, which was kind of a bummer since I was ready to take it to the beach that weekend.
So yeah, between what’s listed in the box and what’s not, I’d say the card is definitely not included. Just grab one ahead of time so you’re not stuck in that same spot. Any basic SD card will work for getting started. I think I picked up a 64GB one for pretty cheap and it’s been fine for short clips and photos. Better to have it ready than to be flipping through the manual while your battery charges and you’ve got nothing to record on.
I have a pretty thick carpet in my home office and I was worried about the exact same thing before I got mine. Turns out it wasn’t an issue at all for me, but I think it’s because of how I actually use it. I don’t really shift around once I’m settled on it. I just kinda get into position and let it do its thing for the session.
The one time I did notice it move a little was when I was trying to adjust my position mid-session because I wanted to grab my phone off the floor. I sort of lifted my hips up and that’s when the base scooted just a bit. But when you’re just lying there relaxed, the weight of your body keeps everything pretty planted.
I’d say if you’re someone who tends to fidget a lot or you’re planning on reading or scrolling while using it, you might need to reposition it once in a while. But if you’re just lying there for the 15 minutes letting the heat and the stretch work, the carpet really shouldn’t cause any problems.
What kind of carpet do you have though? I’m wondering if the plushness level makes a difference. Mine is fairly dense so it gives enough grip. I could see really soft shag being a different story.
I’ve used it on a headlight before and it was fine for clearing up light haze, but it’s not going to fix serious yellowing or fogging. I’d say if your lights are just a bit dull from everyday use, it’s a decent quick fix. If they’re really bad, you’ll still end up with a dedicated kit anyway.
I actually found the opposite, mine gets a bit wild if I move it too fast across the glass. When I take my time and go slow it’s fine, but the second I try to speed things up it just throws water everywhere. Not a dealbreaker for me since I only really use it for quick rinses, but I wouldn’t call it neat.
I’m not so sure the noise reduction is the big win people think it is for airports specifically. I tried mine near a gate with announcements and cart beeps going off and it still grabbed the wrong words a few times. Helped with steady background hum, but sudden loud stuff still threw it off.
I didn’t move anything when I set mine up, just plugged it behind the armchair and left it. Took a couple weeks but I did notice less activity around the room, not just right next to it. I think as long as it’s not shoved in a tight corner you’re probably fine.
I guess it really comes down to where you’re putting it. I used mine in a bedroom for a few months with just two nails in the wall and it stayed surprisingly flat. The top corners had a tiny bit of give if the air moved, but during a movie you honestly didn’t notice it. I think the material has enough weight to it that it doesn’t crinkle up like a bedsheet. What got me was taking it down and putting it back up a few times. That’s when it started holding some creases from how I folded it. So if you’re planning to set it up and leave it for a while, I’d say go for it. If you’re taking it down every single weekend, you might end up chasing wrinkles more than you want.
I don’t think you’ll have trouble with the bucket setup honestly. I’ve done it a few times when washing stuff at the back of the yard and it pulls the water up fine. The pressure drops a bit compared to hooking up a hose, but for a quick car rinse or cleaning off patio furniture it’s still got enough kick to get the job done. Just make sure the filter end stays under the water or you’ll start spraying air bubbles.
I’d say they’re totally fine for regular calls. I use mine for both and I haven’t noticed the mic being worse on a normal phone call than my older pair. The call quality is clear enough for me, so I don’t think you’d be missing out on much.
I’ve taken mine to a couple of outdoor markets and a construction-adjacent street and it really depends on the person speaking. If they’re facing you and speaking at a normal pace, it does fine. But the second someone talks sideways or mumbles a bit, it kind of gives up. I don’t think it’s the glasses being bad, more that they need a fairly clean signal to work with.
One thing I noticed is that my own voice gets picked up way better than the other person’s when there’s noise around. So if I’m the one translating, it’s smooth. When I’m relying on the other person to speak clearly into the open mic, that’s when I have to lean closer or ask them to repeat. Not a dealbreaker, but I’d say don’t expect it to work like a professional interpreter in a loud room.
