JSmithParticipantJust got a DappSmile and I’m not sure which tip to use on my front teeth. The pointed one seems too aggressive and the flat one feels weird. Do you use the same tip for everything or switch based on tooth? Not trying to wreck my gums.

MemberPointed one on front teeth is asking for trouble, I only use that for the back ones where I can actually see what I’m doing. Flat tip on the front, light pressure, and it does fine. Switch tips depending on the tooth, not one for everything.

MemberThe flat tip is what I reach for on my front teeth too. It feels a little odd at first but once you get the angle right it glides along the surface without digging in. I usually keep it on the soft setting up there and save the pointed one for the back.

Lisa BassMemberThe pointed tip works fine on my front teeth if I keep the angle shallow, but I switch to the flat one for the gumline. I’ve had better luck just going slow on the lower setting.

MemberThe pointed tip being too aggressive on front teeth is overblown. I’ve used it there plenty of times and it’s fine as long as you’re not digging in like you’re chiseling. The flat tip is the one I never touch.

MemberI picked up the DappSmile a few weeks ago mostly for coffee stains, and the tip thing confused me too at first. What ended up working for me was just sticking with the flat tip on the front teeth and running it on the soft mode. It did feel strange the first couple of times, kind of like it wasn’t doing anything, but I noticed the surface stains on my front teeth fading after about a week of using it every other day.
The pointed one I keep for the back where there’s more room to maneuver. On my front teeth it felt like too much control was needed and I kept second guessing my angle. So I just stopped fighting it and made the flat tip my default for anything up front. Not saying that’s the “right” way, it’s just what felt less risky to me. My gums have been fine so far, no irritation or anything.

MemberI’d use the flat one on front teeth and just deal with the weird feel for a bit. Pointed tip up there is how people mess up their enamel. I keep mine on the lowest setting too, front teeth aren’t thick like molars.

MemberI actually use the pointed tip on my front teeth more than the flat one. The flat tip felt awkward to me no matter how I angled it, so I just keep the pressure light with the pointed one and it’s been fine. Everyone’s different I guess.

Mike ReynoldsMemberPointed tip is what I use on front teeth, but only on the lowest setting. Crank it up and yeah, it gets rough. Flat one stays in the drawer.

Laura CheckMemberI used the pointed one on front teeth, just kept it light.

Chris MillerMemberI tried the flat one on my front teeth for like a week and never got used to it. Pointed tip on the lowest setting is what I keep going back to, just don’t press hard and it’s fine for me.

MemberFlat tip on front teeth for me, works fine.

MemberI switch mine depending on what I’m doing, not just the tooth. The pointed one I save for the back teeth where stuff builds up between them, and the flat one I only use on the front surfaces when there’s visible staining. The pointed tip on front teeth always felt like it was digging in no matter how light I went, so I stopped forcing it.
What helped me was not going for a perfect clean in one pass. I do a few seconds per tooth, rinse, then come back if I missed something. Trying to scrape everything off in one go is what made my gums sore the first week. Now I just do a quick pass every few days and it stays manageable. The flat tip still feels a little odd on the front but I got used to it after a couple weeks.

MemberMine came with two of each tip so I just left the pointed one on there the whole time. Swapping back and forth got annoying. The pointed one on the soft setting is all I use on the front.

Lisa HallMemberPointed tip on front teeth never worked for me. It felt like it was chipping at the enamel no matter how light I went. Flat tip with slow passes did way more without the scraping feeling.
