Mine actually worked fine when I only ran it overnight a few times a week, so I don’t think it has to be on 24/7 to do something. Fridge smells came back after a while though, so it’s more of a temporary help than a permanent fix. I still think it’s worth trying if you just want less odor without dealing with filters.
I used mine on the plastic trim of my old Corolla and it actually softened a few of the lighter scuffs, but the grainy bits still held onto some residue. Not a miracle fix, just decent for light stuff. If it’s real scuffs rather than faded plastic, I’d say it’s worth a shot on a small spot first.
I don’t really buy the whole “it’s tethered so it’s not portable” thing. Mine runs off its own charge just fine for a few hours, I just top it up when I’m near an outlet anyway.
I got mine mainly for the plug and play setup, so I haven’t touched the game files at all. From what I’ve seen, the storage is pretty limited anyway, so even if you figure it out you’re not fitting much extra on there.
I think it depends a lot on the bird species, not just the device. The sparrows in my yard clear out whenever mine kicks in, but the bigger ones could not care less. Maybe try moving it closer to wherever they keep landing, placement mattered way more than the dial for me.

The charging thing is the real annoyance. I keep the cable in my bag and top it up maybe once a week, so it’s not a huge deal, but it’s definitely extra maintenance a regular bottle never asks for. If your main goal is just avoiding that stale smell, I’d say save your money and just wash your bottle more often. The UV only helps if you’re already keeping up with basic care. If you treat it like a magic fix, you’ll be disappointed.
I’d probably just leave the fan on. Mine sits in a corner and the ceiling fan actually helps push the cooled air toward the bed instead of letting it hover near the unit. Not a huge dramatic difference, but I never noticed them fighting each other.

Once I got it up a little and pointed toward where the squirrels land before jumping to the feeder, they started treating that whole corner as suspicious. They still come by, don’t get me wrong, but it’s way less frequent and they don’t hang around like they used to. If you’re thinking about moving yours closer to the feeder, I’d say try it. Just give it a few days in one spot before you decide it’s not working.

That added up by the end of the day. I started making a habit of switching it off completely while I was just walking or stopping for lunch, and that helped a lot. I mostly do short clips and photos too, so I wasn’t expecting it to last forever, but the standby drain was probably what surprised me the most.
It’s more of a polish situation for actual scratches, honestly. I had a few light ones that were barely visible and it softened them up a bit, but they didn’t disappear like the scuff did. The paint transfer is where it really shines.
