I’ve been using a regular stainless steel bottle for years and never worried about it. Now I see the Hewelth UVClean with its UV cap and I’m wondering if that cap actually makes a difference for daily water. I’m not expecting it to purify anything, but does it really keep the bottle from getting that funky smell? My old bottle starts smelling after a couple days if I forget to wash it. Just trying to figure out if the UV thing is worth the extra hassle of charging.

I have the LARQ version and the UV cap is the main reason I stopped getting that stale smell. If I forget to wash it for a few days it still smells fine, which never happened with my old bottle. The charging is a bit annoying but I just plug it in when I notice the light blinking.

The charging thing is the real annoyance. I keep the cable in my bag and top it up maybe once a week, so it’s not a huge deal, but it’s definitely extra maintenance a regular bottle never asks for. If your main goal is just avoiding that stale smell, I’d say save your money and just wash your bottle more often. The UV only helps if you’re already keeping up with basic care. If you treat it like a magic fix, you’ll be disappointed.

I’d skip it if smell is your only reason. You’re basically paying and charging a cap for something a quick rinse and air dry mostly handles already. The UV thing sounds nice in theory, but it’s not magic. It won’t clean grime or that film that builds up on the threads and gasket, and that stuff is usually what actually starts stinking. I’ve seen people baby these caps, keep them charged, and still get funk because they ignored the seal area. A regular bottle is simpler and has nothing to charge. If you already leave water sitting for days and forget to wash it, the cap won’t fix that habit. It might delay the smell a bit, but you’re adding another gadget to maintain. For daily water at home or work, that tradeoff sounds annoying. I’d rather buy a second cheap bottle and rotate them.

I actually don’t think the charging thing is as annoying as people make it out to be. I had a similar UV cap bottle for about a year and I just plugged it in while I was at my desk maybe twice a week. That was enough to keep it going for the auto cycles. The smell thing was fine for me but I also wasn’t leaving water sitting in it for days on end. Where I noticed it most was actually the lid and the rim area, that’s where my old bottle got nasty first and the UV did seem to help there. But if you’re the type who forgets water in a bottle for a week, I don’t think any cap is saving you from that. It’s more of a maintenance thing than a magic fix.

I’ve had a UV cap bottle for maybe four months and I actually still get a little smell if I leave water sitting over a weekend. Not as fast as a normal bottle, but it’s not like the thing stays fresh forever. I mostly notice it around the lid threads, which the UV probably doesn’t hit as well. So for daily water where you refill and drink regularly it’s fine, but if your main issue is forgetting the bottle for days, I wouldn’t count on the cap to fully solve that. The charging part is whatever, I just plug it in when I remember. It’s a nice bottle overall but the UV isn’t some magic switch that makes cleaning optional.

I have the UVClean and I think the charging concern gets a bit overblown. I toss mine on the charger maybe once a week or so and it’s never died on me mid-day. But here’s the thing I noticed that might matter for your situation: the cap helps most when the bottle is actually closed and sitting there. If you’re the type who fills it, drinks it down, fills it again all day, the UV cycle barely gets a chance to do anything because you keep opening it. I’m a sipper, so mine sits closed for hours at a time and the auto cycle actually runs. My roommate has the same bottle and she refills constantly and hers gets that smell way faster than mine does. So I’d say think about how you actually use your bottle before deciding if the charging tradeoff is worth it. For me it is, but I’m also not washing mine as often as I probably should.

Ended up just sticking with my old bottle. Charging a cap to maybe delay a smell by a day is not worth it to me. If I forget to wash it that’s on me, not something I need a battery for.
