I’ve been using the Qinux FelinStop for a few weeks now and it seems to keep cats away from my garden. But I still see birds hanging around. Did anyone else notice birds just ignoring it? Not sure if I need to change the frequency or if birds are just not bothered by it. Any tips?

I’ve had mine out for about a month and the birds honestly don’t seem phased by it at all. They still hop around the feeder like nothing is there. I kind of figured that setting is more for the four legged visitors anyway.

Birds aren’t really the target for these things anyway. I tried mine near a berry bush and the cat stopped showing up but the sparrows didn’t care one bit. If birds are your actual problem you’re probably using the wrong tool.

Mine has been out since spring and the birds treat it like a rock. It does keep the neighbor’s cat off my seedlings though, so I just left it on the cat setting and stopped expecting anything else from it.

I set mine up mostly because of birds pecking at my veggie patch, so that was actually my main reason for buying it. Cats were a bonus. After about six weeks I can say the birds in my yard definitely react to it, just not in the way I expected. They don’t vanish completely, but they stay away from the beds where I have the unit pointed. The ones up in the trees or on the fence don’t seem to care at all. So placement matters more than I thought. I ended up moving mine closer to the ground near the plants and that made a difference for me. It’s not magic, but it’s doing enough that I stopped covering everything with netting, which was the whole point. Maybe try aiming it lower if your birds are mostly on the ground.

We had a similar thing happen with ours, but it was the opposite problem. The birds stayed away from the feeder for about a week and then came right back like nothing ever happened. Meanwhile the squirrels acted like I’d personally insulted them and cleared out completely. Still not sure what that says about the frequency settings.

I ended up moving ours to a different corner of the yard because it was also messing with our dog, who started giving the garden bed the side eye every time he went out. Once it was away from his usual path he relaxed. The birds never really seemed to care either way after that first week though. They just sit on the fence and watch it like it’s some kind of weird garden ornament.

So I’d say our experience lines up with the birds not being bothered. The cat situation improved a lot though, which was the main reason we got it in the first place. My neighbor’s orange tabby used to treat our flower bed like a personal litter box and that stopped within days. I never messed with the frequency dials because I honestly couldn’t tell much difference when I tried, so I just left it on whatever it came set to. Probably not the most scientific approach but it’s been fine.

Different animals react to different frequency settings. I bumped mine up a notch and the pigeons finally stopped landing on my shed roof. Robins still don’t care though, so I just leave it.

Turning the frequency up won’t do much for birds, that dial is more about the cat side of things in my experience. Mine sits by the patio and the cats cleared off within a week or so, but the little birds never paid it any attention one way or the other. So I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong there.

Birds have never been the reason I keep mine around, so I don’t really pay attention to whether they care or not. My main thing is that the battery just keeps going on solar without me messing with it, which is what I actually wanted. If the birds bug you that much, maybe this just isn’t the tool for that.

Birds around my place actually did react to it at first, so I don’t think it’s a lost cause for them like some folks here are saying. Took about two weeks before they started avoiding the spot I had it pointed at. Maybe placement matters more than the frequency dial for birds.

I think it depends a lot on the bird species, not just the device. The sparrows in my yard clear out whenever mine kicks in, but the bigger ones could not care less. Maybe try moving it closer to wherever they keep landing, placement mattered way more than the dial for me.

Mine actually did the opposite, the birds were the only ones that cleared out for a bit while the cats kept strolling through like nothing changed. Took about a week before even the birds stopped caring though. So I wouldn’t bother messing with the frequency just for them.
