The finger hole isn’t some magic feature you have to adapt to. I had a knife with one for about a month and never got past the point where my hand just wanted to sit where it always sat. Kept jamming my index finger in there because the handle shape kind of forces it, then it would slip out mid cut and throw off my grip. That’s not a “give it time” thing, that’s the knife fighting how I already hold a blade. If your old chef knife worked fine for years, that’s your answer. A hole in the steel doesn’t make you a better cook. I ended up passing mine to my brother in law who loves it, so it’s not trash, but I’m not pretending it clicked for me. You either like that grip or you don’t.
Mine only turns on when there’s power going to it. Unplug it and it’s dead immediately, no internal battery at all. So yeah, it’s a desk thing, not something you carry around running.
That’s just what you get with a tiny sensor and a wide lens pointing at a high contrast scene. The camera can only expose for one thing at a time. It picks the bright sky, so the shadows go dark. Mine does the same thing on overcast days even, anything with a bright patch behind it and the rest turns into a black hole.
Tweaking exposure helps the shadows but then the sky blows out, so you’re just moving the problem around. I messed with mine for a week and gave up. Unless you want to spend time fixing it after every ride, that’s the tradeoff with these little cams.
It’ll dribble. I’ve got a well too and mine was basically useless for anything beyond a gentle mist. If your pressure is already weak, a nozzle can’t create what isn’t there.
If you’re expecting to watch your bag move across a map mid flight, that’s not happening. It’s not that kind of device. I’d skip it if that’s the whole reason you want one.
My laptop is the one device that gives me grief sometimes. Phone to laptop switching works okay, but if I leave the earbuds idle for a while, I end up having to dig through the Bluetooth menu to nudge them awake. Not a dealbreaker, but definitely not the seamless thing the packaging hints at.
The side supports on mine definitely took some getting used to. I think the thing is, you’re not really supposed to sit still in them for long stretches. The brace is doing its job when you’re moving around because the stabilizers are tracking your leg. Once you park it on a chair, those rods have nothing to do, so they just sit there pressing into whatever part of your thigh they land on. It’s not that they’re too rigid, it’s more that they don’t bend to accommodate your new position when you go from standing to sitting. The open patella design helps the kneecap, but the side bits are just kind of there.
I had the same complaint for the first week. I thought I bought something defective or that my leg was too skinny for the standard fit. But after wearing it for a few days straight, I think my body just got used to the pressure and I stopped tensing up around it. You might also be subconsciously bracing against the feeling, which makes it worse. I’d say give it another week and see if the digging sensation fades. If it’s still bothering you after real daily use, then maybe you need to look at how high or low the brace sits on your thigh when you’re in a chair. For what it’s worth, I’d rather have the slight dig than have the whole thing slide down my leg when I walk.
Depends what you’re using it for honestly. I wouldn’t trust it to last multiple days in a busy area. If it’s just watching a quiet corner, you’re probably fine for two days. But if you need it to actually catch something, I’d just plug it in every night so you don’t get a dead cam when you need it.
I’ve seen plenty of these land face down on pavement and keep working. The wet grass part is the bigger question, but honestly if it still turns on and responds, you’re probably fine. These things aren’t built like a cheap toy, they can take a knock or two.
I’m the opposite, I actually prefer the direct heat. My old radiator took so long I’d forget I even turned it on. I’d rather feel the warmth right away when I sit down than wait twenty minutes for the room to soak it in.
Used mine for about two weeks now and yeah, the heat is on the mild side. If you’re expecting that deep, almost uncomfortable warmth you get from a plug-in pad, this isn’t going to do it. I just treat it as a bonus while the compression does the actual work.
I mean, if you’re drying it with anything, that’s probably what you’re feeling. I stopped bothering with a towel and just leave mine on the counter for a minute. Takes no time to be dry and then there’s no weird tackiness left behind.
Drafty window means the cold air is winning before the heater even gets a chance. Put it on the floor near your feet, not up on the desk.
I wouldn’t lose sleep over it. I’ve got one on a small table next to my bed and it’s been fine. The base is wider and heavier than the pictures make it look. I’ve knocked it a few times reaching for my phone in the middle of the night and it didn’t so much as shift.
The cat thing is the real test though. Mine likes to rub against things and I was half expecting to hear it crash one night. Hasn’t happened. The weight sits low enough that it doesn’t act like one of those cheap tower fans that goes over if you look at them wrong.
I’d say the bigger concern is making sure your nightstand isn’t completely uneven. Mine has one slightly shorter leg and I still haven’t had an issue. If your cat is the type that full on launches onto surfaces, that might be different, but for normal cat behavior it should hold up.
The mist mode on these things will chew through water, yeah. I mostly treat mine as a fan with a occasional cool spritz instead of running it constantly. Saves me from babysitting the tank all day.
I skip the touch controls most of the time, but not because voice is better. It’s because I forget they exist until I’m already talking to the glasses like a weirdo in public. Then I realize I could’ve just tapped the frame and looked normal for once.
That said, there is one thing that made me actually start using them: music. When I’m walking and a song comes on that I don’t want to hear, yelling “pause” feels ridiculous. But tapping the side once is quick and nobody notices. I still mess it up sometimes because I can’t remember if it’s one tap or two taps for volume versus skipping, but for basic pause and play it’s been worth it.
The bigger reason I don’t switch over fully is that I use these for translation way more than I expected. And that’s all voice. No way I’m tapping through a conversation to repeat a phrase. So I end up in this weird middle ground where I use voice for anything important and touch only for the dumb stuff like muting music.
I’d say it’s worth getting used to for the little things, but don’t force it. If voice is working for you and you’re not constantly fumbling, you’re not missing much. The touch controls aren’t some hidden superpower. They just save you from talking to yourself when you want to change a song without pulling out your phone.
Carpet type probably matters more than people think. Mine is on a medium pile and it stays put, but I can see thick shag being a problem since the legs would just sink in and shift. If you have normal carpet you’re probably fine.
If the panel gets any decent sun at all during the day, it’ll usually keep up fine. Mine sits under a tree line that blocks most of the afternoon light and it’s still been holding charge for weeks. You’ll end up using the USB port in the winter more than anything else.
I wouldn’t count on it hitting anything near that 10 meter mark in real use. I tried mine from across my yard and it missed plenty of barks, so if you’re planning to leave it sitting in your own yard hoping it catches the neighbor’s dog, you’re probably going to be disappointed. The sensor needs the dog to be fairly close and facing the right direction. Better off placing it right on the fence line if you can.
The auto-recognition thing works on weight as the main trigger, but if you and your partner are within a couple kilos it really is just a coin toss which profile it picks. I ran into that with mine and honestly the smart features dont help much when the numbers are that close. I gave up relying on it and just check the app before I trust any reading. If it logs under the wrong name, the trend data gets messy and that defeats the whole point of tracking. I would say keep an eye on it for a week and see if it actually figures out the pattern, but I wouldnt hold your breath. The tech is decent for a single user, but multi-person stuff feels like an afterthought when the weights overlap.
Twice a week is still more than some people manage. I kept telling myself I’d do three sessions and realistically hit two most weeks for a couple months. I noticed my skin looked less dull and a bit firmer, nothing dramatic, but there was a difference. If you know you won’t stick to three, two will still give you something.
The whole “wears down fast” thing kind of bugs me because people treat it like it’s a defect. I’d say it’s just how these things work. The surface is basically a fine grit and that grit is going to shed no matter what you do. Pressing harder probably makes it worse, but even normal use will do it.
Mine lost that initial rough feel within the first couple of weeks too. But it also never got to the point where it was useless. It just stopped being as aggressive. I still use it mainly for the trimming part and then use the filing side just to knock off any sharp edges. It’s not doing heavy reshaping or anything, so the reduced grit doesn’t really matter for that.
I think if you’re expecting the filing surface to stay like day one forever, you’re going to be disappointed. It’s a consumable part of the tool. As long as it still smooths the edge enough, it’s doing its job.
If you’re the type who can’t stand any kind of visual imperfection, you’re going to notice stuff. I had mine up with tape for a weekend setup and the corners were fine, but the bottom edge had this soft wave that never really pulled tight. It didn’t ruin the movie, but it was there.
The trick is that the material relaxes a bit after it hangs for a while. First night it looked okay, second night it looked a little better. But if you’re expecting it to look like a tensioned frame screen, that’s not what this is.
For a casual hangout or a backyard thing, it’s good enough. If you’re the kind of person who pauses the movie to fix a tiny ripple, you’ll be annoyed. I keep mine rolled up when it’s not in use and just deal with a few minutes of settling before I start. That’s the tradeoff for not drilling holes in the wall.
