I keep misplacing my keys and wallet, so I’m looking at the iTagPro. Do you actually use it daily or does it just sit in a drawer after a week? I don’t need anything fancy, just something to ping when I’m running late. Also, does the app drain your phone battery? Not sure if I’d stick with it long term.

Mine’s been on my keys for about eight months now, and I still use it most days. The pinging is handy when I’m rushing out the door, but the app itself hasn’t really drained my phone much that I’ve noticed.

Bluetooth drain has been a non issue for me, but the app nags for background permissions on Android. That bugged me more than battery life ever did. For keys and a wallet it does the job, just set your expectations on range.

I grabbed one mainly for my work bag since I work from home and still somehow manage to lose the thing between rooms. The feature I actually ended up using most is the separation alert, not the pinging. There’s a setting where it warns you if you leave the tag behind, and that caught me a few times when I was heading out for coffee and had left the bag upstairs. That part felt genuinely useful rather than gimmicky. The pinging works fine too but I have to be within a reasonable distance or I’m just wandering around listening for a faint beep. Battery wise mine is still on the original coin cell after a few months, so no complaints there. It’s not something I think about much, which is probably the best thing you can say about a little tracker.

Depends what you expect from it. I got one for my keys and wallet and after a couple months one of them just kept losing connection, so it stopped being reliable for me. If you only want it for pinging around the house, that part works fine.

I don’t get the drawer argument. Mine is the opposite problem, it’s attached and stays attached, that’s the whole point. What nobody warned me about is the ping range. If your keys are somewhere in the same apartment, fine. Down in the car or a jacket you left at a friend’s place, forget it, you’re just staring at a last seen location from an hour ago and that does nothing for you. So the “ping when I’m running late” thing only works if the stuff is actually nearby. For me that’s still most mornings, so it’s not useless, but it’s a much smaller tool than people pretend. As for the app, I haven’t noticed anything on my phone, and I check my battery screen a lot. So the drawer worry is overblown, the real catch is what happens once your stuff leaves the room.

One thing nobody brings up is the separation alerts actually work better than the ping for wallet brain. Mine buzzed me from the car park when I walked off without my bag, which I never would have noticed otherwise. The ping is the headline but the random saves are the real value.

Fair enough, sounds like it’s one of those things where you either use it or you don’t. I’ll probably grab one and see how it goes for a month. If it ends up in a drawer, at least it wasn’t a huge purchase.
