Mine stays plugged in because I’d forget to turn it back on. If you’re good about plugging it in every night, that’s probably fine. I just know myself.
Moss on concrete is a bit of a mixed bag with these wire heads. I’ve got a wire brush head on my trimmer and used it on the patio slabs out back where green stuff was creeping along the joints. It does tear the moss up, way better than line ever did, and I wasn’t stopping every ten minutes to bump the head. But it doesn’t really sweep it clean, it flings bits everywhere and some of the stuff just gets smeared into the surface. Took a couple of passes and then a stiff broom to actually clear it. On my concrete it left faint marks too, nothing horrible but you can see them in certain light. For cracks and edges though it’s handy. Just don’t expect it to look like you pressure washed it.
Mine didn’t seem to do squat in bumper to bumper stuff. It was the longer stretches where I actually noticed a difference. Stop and go is just going to eat gas no matter what you plug in.
The screen itself isn’t adding lag. It’s just fabric. I’ve used mine for a few game nights and the only issues I get are from the projector’s own processing, not the screen.
I picked one up last month for basically the same kind of work, small stuff on wood and some leather scraps. Mine came with a tip already in it and the others in a little bag, so nothing to assemble. The battery had some charge but not much, so I topped it off before really using it.
The learning curve is real but short. My first few lines on a piece of scrap pine looked like a drunk spider drew them. What helped me was slowing way down and not pressing hard. The tool does the work, you just guide it. After maybe twenty minutes of doodling on scrap I could pull a straight-ish line.
What I would do if I were you is grab some cheap wood offcuts before touching anything you actually care about. I ruined a nice little leather bookmark on day one because I assumed it would be as forgiving as wood. Leather is soft but it grabs the tip a bit and my line wobbled.
For small projects it does the job fine. It is not going to replace a proper rotary tool for anything heavy, but for quick initials or simple patterns it is handy. Just practice first.
Adding games is the easy part. Keeping them organized so you can actually find them later is where it gets annoying. Mine turned into a mess of files and half the names showed up wrong on the menu.
Mine stays cool enough to touch, but I only run it a couple hours at a time. The rotating plug is nice for tight spots though, that part I actually like.
Mine has been out since spring and the birds treat it like a rock. It does keep the neighbor’s cat off my seedlings though, so I just left it on the cat setting and stopped expecting anything else from it.
I usually leave mine on auto and let it sort itself out. But I did check once out of curiosity and it was parked on the 2.4 side the whole time, even with the router in the next room. Streams were fine most nights. The drop here and there was more about the internet acting up than the band, at least for me. I do prefer keeping the stick on 2.4 anyway since it reaches better through walls. 5GHz is faster on paper but it falls off quick once you put a door or two in the way. So yeah, it can make a difference, just not always the one you expect. If the drops are only a second or two, I’d leave the settings alone and see if it settles.
Fans always on in my place, and I quit messing with it. I run the AiraBreeze on low aimed at my chair instead of trying to cool the whole room, works better for me that way.
Warm to the touch after hours of continuous use seems pretty normal for anything drawing from the wall like that. Mine does the same thing, though I’ve only really noticed it in warmer months or when the room itself is hot. If it ever gets too hot to hold comfortably, that’s when I’d start questioning it.
Appreciate the responses, gave me something to think about. I’ll keep wearing it and see if the stress data makes more sense over a longer stretch. Probably just need to stop expecting it to read my mood and let it do its own thing.
Most of these budget cams don’t include a card, so I’d grab one before it shows up. I learned that the hard way with a different camera years ago. Just make sure it’s a decent brand, the cheap no-name cards tend to fail right when you’re recording something worth keeping.
It’s upscaling, plain and simple, but on a bigger screen it does take the rough edge off. I’m not going to pretend it transforms the games into something they’re not.
The real selling point for me was that I didn’t have to fiddle with a bunch of settings or figure out which cable goes where. Plugged it in, picked a game, and that was it. If you go in expecting a modern remaster, you’ll be let down. If you just want to play, it does the job.
I’ve used mine on a low pile rug without any sliding, but the weight of the unit does most of the work once you’re on it. The real issue for me was getting on and off it without nudging it out of place. Once you’re settled, it stays where you put it.
Mine definitely helps, but only if I stay on top of it. I use it every other day or so and the coffee film doesn’t get a chance to build up like it used to. If you let it go for a week, you are back to scraping.
Placement definitely changes it, but not the way people usually think. I had mine in a spot where it seemed completely useless for a week, then realized the issue was that I was pointing it at my chest while the airflow was getting blocked by my monitor. Moved it to the other side of my keyboard and suddenly it was actually doing something.
What I noticed is that it’s less about distance and more about angle. If the air has to travel around stuff, it loses all its punch. Mine sits maybe two feet away now, but it’s aimed so the air hits my face and hands at the same time. When it was closer but pointed slightly wrong, it felt like nothing was coming out.
Also, mine performs noticeably worse on humid days. I used it in my garage on a muggy afternoon and it barely felt like it was running. On a normal dry day at my desk, it’s fine. I think people forget it’s evaporative, so the air around it matters just as much as where it sits.
I would say don’t overthink the exact distance. Just make sure nothing is in the path between the unit and you. If it’s still weak after that, might be the humidity or the water level. Mine gets quieter and weaker when the tank runs low, which took me a while to figure out.
Radiator heat hangs around after it shuts off, that’s the main thing I noticed. The fan heater gives you a quick blast but the room drops back fast once it cycles. I kept my old one for the bedroom and use the ceramic one for short stints at my desk.
Guess it’s just the nature of the thing then. I’ll stick to using it on the patio and save the glass for something else. Good to know I wasn’t messing it up somehow.
I gave ice a shot once and the first ten minutes are great, but then it just turns into a regular mister. The effort of keeping packs frozen isn’t worth that tiny window for me. I just use cold water from the fridge and it does the job for a desk.
I can see why you’d ask. I’ve used mine for a full battery cycle a few times now, and it’s not the weight that gets me, it’s the vibration. After maybe ten minutes my fingers start to tingle a bit. Not enough to stop, but you’ll notice it.
Depends what you mean by scratch. If you can barely see it in the right light, it’ll probably soften it up. Anything you can feel with a nail is out of its league. I’d say give it a shot on the light ones, worst case you just polished the panel a bit.
